this is pretty obvious to me that Sony did the right choice with the PS3. Sure Wii sold like crazy for 2 years but nobody bought games for it and everybody stashed them in their pockets, no one is gonna buy a nintendo console again as you can see with 3ds.

PSTriple on the other hand, has been gaining momentum every year, has become the #1 console already, they got the best exclusives, free online and a reliable hardware and know that it's important to be succesful on the whole world that's why they are succesful in the whole world. Sony are truly the kings of videogames and that's not something that you can just moneyhat.

It is a great system and with overall great games; but it seems most people are not buying it for the online and even less are buying it for the first party games. Granted, there's a lot of data not shown in this charts; but it's hard to say based on this charts that the free online and the first parties helped.

These numbers were extrapolated from the graphs based on sell-through numbers from NPD, Media Create, and GfK. It's not shipments.

I think it would have sold better if it was actually "1 year" more powerful than the 360, even at that crazy price. Imagine some sort of "360 1.5" in terms of power, with free online as well as cross game chat/trophies/in-game XMB from day one. I bet a good chunk of 360 owners would have happily switched over a long time ago. I mean the "hardcore/early adopter" people, those that care about the above stuff more than Blu-Ray movies compatibility.

Are you saying Microsoft is lying on offical financial statements? The Nintendo slides are estimates and are not offered as official financial records.

These are sold through numbers from the sales tracking firms for the respective countries.

The PS3 is a chore to develop for. Developers that actually take the time to get to know the hardware have produced fantastic results (Santa Monica Studio and Naughty Dog, to name two). Third party developers are not going to do that.

The PS4 will be much, much easier to develop for. I have a feeling that Sony has already approached third party developers and asked them what they want out of the hardware. You can bet your ass that they're surveying devs like Naughty Dog and getting feedback from them too.
