I can see a version of Fabula Nova Crystalis appearing on all formats, DS, PSP, PS3, 360, Wii. It would tie in with SEs polymorphic strategy. PS3 will obviously get the 'main one' exclusively, and 360 will not get any exclusive, merely ports. The Wii will get a ported version of the PSP game [LOL].
This is Squeenix you're talking about. If anything, the PSP gets nothing, and DS gets the three remaining games - with a cumulative budget rivaling the PS3-game... :)

There wasn't even a need for a queue down here in South Africa... I think only 6 units were sold at the Midnight Launch... WOW

It's a very sad attempt at trolling. The article itself ruins it.

Uh, no. I was answering the question "Is the 360 available in South Africa". It wasn't even my post. Bring your paranoid accusations to another poster's doorstep.

I was talking about nintendude, so my accusations were planted at just the right doorstep (if you take a peek at the thread he started you'd see that). Your defensiveness is amusing though

I'm callin' it right here: FFXIII will go multiplatform. No doubt about it. While it's guaranteed to hit the PS3, it will also go to Windows and, very possibly, X360.

Make fun of me later if I'm wrong.

Unless something major changes after a few releases (LATE) this year, that's a great HUNCH. Yeah :)

Oh yeah, forgot about that. No hardware numbers will dampen the thread's potential.
Well, look at it this way: if Sony doesn't boast unit numbers sold this week...that's as strong as any indication you could have that they're screwed there.

I can see it now:

Sony PR dude: "PS3 sales in Europe are up over 100,000 units month-over-month. Also, PS3 titles are dominating the top 10 PS3 software chart."

PS3 sales update @ the store were I work.

On friday we got 27 units (kudos Sony), we sold 16. On saturday (today) we only sold 1 PS3. So we still have 10 units left. After checking inventory with other stores in the chain were I work (44 other stores) the numbers are about the same everywhere with 1/3 stock left unsold.

PS: Netherlands here.

Well, it make sense that a high # would be sold on Friday. But the Saturday drop is unexplainable. That's the hottest shopping day behind Friday out of a week.

those are pretty big numbers... compare them to other launches? I know Sony stock is a lot bigger, but how much in your case?

Is it really unexplainable, or is it exactly what we've seen everywhere else when supply is available?

To play obvious Devil's advocate, a drop on the second day is easily explained by the first day being launch day. Selling only one system though...well. I want to wait for some kind of numbers or ranking or even a bullshit laden press release before I start talking, because I don't know shit about the European market.

We got about twice as much PS3's as Wii and 360 (at launch). So all in all sales are comparable. But supply is definately bigger then demand. Wii is still sold out though 4 months after launch. 360 is selling ok but not spectacular (1 sold on saturday too).

Yeah, a drop is expected. But ONE system??? The drops everywhere werent like that. But this is just one shop in Netherlands. Overall, it could be doing well in the country

Yeah I don't think it dropped that much everywhere, but it's not sold out either. As I've said other stores in the chain have stock left too.

Seems like a small chain to me when you only sell 2 next gen systems on a Saturday.

Well, keep in mind the size of the Netherlands. At the EB I worked at (in Winnipeg, Canada) we would sometimes have Saturdays where only 2 or 3 systems sold. Granted, Canada's not a huge market, but as the old lady pissing in the ocean says, "Every bit helps".

Seriously, I hope Sony wasn't expecting for all of the consoles to sell out at that price. You raise the price on an already expensive console only to garner disappointing sales. No way. Also, on the subject of FF13. Isn't it coming out sometime in 2008? Hopefully, Sony will find a way to significantly increase the userbase by end of 2007.

Looks like Nordisk Film went all out with the Finnish PS3 launch event (invite only). In one room there was a surprising show with a male and a female performer, a DILL-DOH, bondage and fantasy acts.

"This fits well with the Playstation brand. Our slogan is "This is living". It summarises the philosophy of the brand very well. We want to offer people the chance to experince different things."
-Kari Nurmi, head of marketing, Nordisk Film.

Apparently the show was very popular, the room was packed and not everyone got a chance to see it.

nice thread. good luck to sony, you'll need it. for the record, the person referenced in the title is not altogetherandrews, the former xbox-loving and forever pc-gaming fanatic of current ps3-meltdown fame. not unless sony plans on dropping the price in the next day or so.

EU not Sony land after all? These early reports are not looking good;

Europeans Reject the PS3 Due to High Price

Although the media characterized PS3’s launch in Europe as “controversial”, regular gaming fans all over the continent reported that in their countries Sony’s console stalls on stores’ shelves.

Desperate to get good press after a series of disasters (both concerning the PR and the manufacturing circuit), Sony readied at least 1 million consoles for the European debut of its next-gen gaming console, in order to stop any type of criticism that might appear.

Sony's senior PR manager for Europe, Jonathan Fargher, made the best resume for this kind of situation, in an interview with GameSpot UK: ”We're almost in a lose-lose situation--if we sell out on day one, then people will ask why we couldn't possibly have met demand, and that we should have been aware of the high demand for the machine. But if we don't sell out on day one because we've put steps in place to make sure that there's a steady stream of stock into retail, there's a large number of units on day one, then people will question why we haven't sold out.”

That is of course true and perfectly logical. But despite Phil Harrison’s attempt to make the PS3 more attractive ("There are benefits for European consumers. There are more games available, more Blu-ray movies, and we've updated the online PlayStation network.") Euro-gamers treated the launch with more indifference than anywhere else in the world.

And although official reports from Sony are not yet available concerning the success or failure of PS3, a few sites here in Europe have already posted the genuine reports coming from regular fans, which are not favorable to Sony.

In Sweden for example, a report shows that most of the retailers are “fully equipped” with PS3s, a similar situation occurring in Britain and Denmark, but also suggests that until now few are interesting in buying one. Most of them look for a Wii.

Replies to the article further confirm that Euro-skepticism is now a concept that can be applied to PS3 too. Apparently, in Germany the PlayStation 3 has not been met with enthusiasm, while in Spain everyone wants a Wii, not a PS3.

What is probably even more interesting is that in Finland PS3’s launch party was apparently obnubilated spiced up with a pornographic show…

But the most “famous” failed debut by far was in the French territory, where 95% of the consoles available at launch site remained unsold. Although Sony officials were expecting at least 3000 persons- and for that had mobilized 40 police officers- only 50 true-blue fans showed up. The co-organizers of the Paris event called it…a “non-event”.

The UK launch (meaning the March 23 event) was probably the most successful on the continent, which is a paradox considering that the British get the console for the highest price (GBP 425). Sony thought at “sweetening” the offer by giving away 100 HD TVs to the first 100 buyers.

Sony said it was the biggest console launch ever seen in Britain, with 220,000 machines distributed around the country in preparation for high demand from shoppers.

Despite the efforts, some fans were just not satisfied. One British fan said on GameSpot that: “As a hardcore gamer I've not missed a console launch since I got an Atari 2600 as an Xmas present in 1978, but I'd not pay £425 for a games console, I'm the demographic that Sony is aiming for, buys loads of games has money to burn. But at that price its not worth it. […] I'm lucky that I get to go on Business to Japan once in a while (I work for Honda), so I bought my PS3 for £260 in Tokyo 3 months ago, So how come the PS3 is £260 in Japan and £425 in Europe, Japanese wages are higher than European wages, Shipping don’t cost £165 a time. We are ripped off in Europe all the time and we let them do it.

I paid £179 for my Wii, its £120 in Japan ,the 360 is £280 in the UK and around £220 in the US, so that’s about a £60 difference both times, ok I can live with that, but a £165 difference, do Sony think Europeans are stupid?”

However, outside Virgin Megastore on London’s Oxford Street there was only one person- 17-year-old Rihatsu Thomas- to stand in line to get his PS3: “I thought there would be more people here,” he said. “I hope some more people come soon.”

Oh, Sony, Sony where art thou? Europe apparently doesn’t want Sony’s expensive PlayStation 3, with the French organizers describing the Paris launch of the PS3 a “non-event”.

As expected, Sony fans here in Europe turned out to be not so “true-blue” to their favorite brand, some of them starting to bash Sony for its “infatuation” and for the high price established in the PAL areas for the PS3.

non-event, classic..

Yeah, the PS3 ain't doing good whatsoever in the Netherlands - first console launch that I've ever witnessed/read where you can find the console in abundance in any store you go to the same evening of the launch date...

The store I always go, and it's really the most popular gaming store in the city, still has quite a bit of 'em there, and the funny thing is that one of the owners (I've known them personally for years) can atleast find some humor in the fact that the €50 that most people paid to reserve a PS3 is basically free cash since barely anyone came back to pick up their reserved PS3's... that goes to show you how expensive €600 for the console alone is - when you're willing to let that €50 go, and Dutch people don't let money go at all!

Best PS3/typical Dutch-story goes to that same friend of mine who's one of the owners of the store - Media Markt (huge multimedia chain of stores in the Netherlands/Germany, probably the biggest) had a launch party on the 22nd starting at 10:00 p.m. till midnight for the launch, and they were giving away 3 PS3's at midnight... and as soon as the 3 PS3's were raffled, the crowd left, with barely anyone buying a PS3! In fact, the pile of them that was there on Friday hasn't moved as of this afternoon when I went there after my exam...

Yeah, they really need to drop the price... not to mention some people there keep bringing up the fact that over 85% of the launch line-up already is, or will be on the 360 later...

It's still funny to hear people asking for Wii's at the counter on the PS3's launch period too...
