I think it was up to the developer if they wanted to implement custom soundtracks in their game? Wasn't it?
fixed that for you, and it's an important distinction

That's exactly how the 360 was.
if you guys are just going to make them focus on media features rather than game features, i'm going to be angry.
It's based on a faulty assumption that Apples old method of tightly integrating hardware and software also applies to software/services and data. Companies think the best way to make money is force you to spend it instead of making you want to spend it.
Not in the games I played. Like in San Andreas, on the original Xbox, it would make a radio station for the tracks/playlists on your hard drive. Not just mute/lower the game audio.
And in racing games, it would display the artist/track information in game instead of only when you press the guide button.
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, or didn't play the right games, but on the original Xbox it was an in-game thing, and not an OS thing (because there wasn't an in-game OS).
Send you a PM with what I found out. I can screenshot if needed, don't know how this is normally handled since I never know anything .
Mmm yeah. I wouldn't worry too much. Some of these overreactions are going to look hilarious in the near future.
Hey OP, reckon you could add these two posts to the...OP...it's about DLNA...

Reminds me of the whole earlier X1 fiasco except Yoshida is just much nicer. You can still use PS3 to play the media files you like while you play games on your PS4.
This shit makes no sense what u tyoed there.
So uh... what's going on in here? 10 more pages since last night...
After your post and the tweets from Shu I am happy that all will be fine.
Yep:Did Shu say anything else?
Had a very good discussion w the PS4 Dev team today. We're happy & appreciative to learn so many people use and like PS3's media features.

Just he had a good discussion with the PS4 dev team, that plus the change to the FAQ on the EU blog (before it was removed) plus some hints from people like yourself paints a hopeful picture.

nothing. they had some Music Unlimited promo/info added today to the EU blog that is still there but comes up with a 404 when you try going to it.

Yes they added the feedback and future possibilities in the FAQ
Sony Network Entertainments Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited will be available at launch in North America. We will announce other entertainment services that will be available on Day 1 before launch. Check PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation social channels for further news and updates.

Shu said nothing(he said something without actually saying anything). What would make you happy about that?
Edit: That text is specifically for MP3 playback, here. Background music only through MU still reads the same.
Some people do prefer an unlimited service instead of maintaining their own collection, and some people have collections that already limited to one ecosystem or another.I understand what Sony's trying to do. If people can stream all their home music collections, why on earth would they be interested in Music Unlimited? (when they in fact already have, unlimited music they've spent years collecting).
Good catch - I missed that one.and the DLNA

Vita does this as well. Not sure if that's a system wide feature but I recall playing stuff in the music app and it muting the normal game music.

I just use one of these:I really don't understand the big fuss about MP3s. Who actually used this last gen? Also, I pretty sure there is a thing called a walkman if you want to listen to music.
Nothing they've said so far has been a commitment to eventually adding DLNA support. While I'm pretty confident it will eventually happen, there is still no excuse to not have it at launch.

edit:
very disheartening for me, personally.
It sounds like it means adding commentary to an already shared video. That would make sense but you never know. Can I add voiceover to my Shared video?
You cant add voiceovers to a shared video clip, but you can speak in real time when streaming live video.
I am not sure this is correct. On devkit firmware you can toggle on/off to allow commentary via mic input. Maybe it really is only for live streaming, but it doesn't say that.
Will I be able to play MP3s on the PS4 system?
No.

Good thing they got Music Unlimited working for launch, huh? Even though an mp3 player would've been easier...Both consoles are being rushed out for the holidays. There are quite a few confirmed significant features on both that will not be available on launch.
