A mid range 2012 GPU and a netbook CPU is an engineering marvel? Must be nice to be so easily impressed.
yeah where's the 1000 dollar Titan

A MacBook air packs way better tech and components in a slimmer better looking package.
Second post is accurate.
I'm guessing that MS didn't get the memo that was sent out to Sony & Apple about some kinda magic cooling system.

7 TFLOPS in this bitch!

personally i dont think the ps4 design is all that inspiring and may have a design flaw. i couldnt find any intake vents which may mean the rear is both the intake and outtake which means it may cause thermal choke if placed in a shelf.
Are you whiling to list components and specifications for each? You can laugh, but numbers don't lie.
McBook Air is just an example, there are far more powerful x86 devices in smaller packages than the one of the PS4.

LOL, No Macbooks carry anything near the strength of 78xx series GPUs.
I agree with the CPU being weak but this is an 8-core Jaguar CPU so it should be fine as game developers make their engines multi-threaded.
Just looking at the latest Macbook Air specs on Wikipedia:
GPU:
Intel HD Graphics 5000 processor with up to 1GB LPDDR3 SDRAM shared from main memory
-significantly weaker than the PS4 GPU
CPU:
(Higher-End 11" & 13") Optional 1.7 GHz (i7-4650U) dual-core Intel Core i7 with 4 MB shared L3 cache
-1/4 of the cores and probably comparable individual core performance compared to PS4
RAM:
4 GB of 1600 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM Optional 8 GB
-significantly slower than PS4 RAM

Is not a full 78xx is the APU version, far less powerful.

Both PS4 and the Xbone are crappy x86 APUs for today's standards. Read cheap PCs.
You think your laptop can play games like inFamous and Battlefield 4?
To be fair, the Xbox One is not as huge in person as it appears in photos. FWIW

Intel single core performance is waaaay better than AMD single core, at the end a Intel CPU process way more instruction than any AMD architecture.

I wish Sony would do an Apple and have a nice behind the scenes with Cerny and the design team on how they made the PS4.
Cerny is supposed to be doing a talk about the PS4 next week I think.
2 cores at 1.7 Ghz aren't going to beat 8 cores at 1.6 Ghz unless Haswell is 4x faster than Jaguar per clock, which it isn't.
Stop pulling facts out of your ass. It's clear as day that you don't have any idea what you're talking about.
Yes mine can and it looks better too. Alienware M18x with 7970m in crossfire
It's 18 CUs at 800 Mhz. Sits somewhere between the 7850 and 7870. The 7850, for reference, is 8-10x as powerful as the GPU in the MacBook Air.

It's definitely not too soon to call it an engineering marvel...
He's not making up anything, more cores does not necessarily mean more power. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-8350-vishera-review,3328.html
Isn't that a $3000+ laptop? You do realise many PS4 games will probably look better than what your laptop will be able to muster right?

I doubt the guts of the mass production model of the XBone will look anything close to that.
Go tom's hardware, and read the in deep benchmark and analysis. There is a reason why AMD is almost broke and Intel has 80% of the market. Multi core architecture is basically AMD desperate attempt to keep up with Intel.
I'm not trying to dismiss the PS4. Just to put it in an objective perspective. Not that I'm buying neither next gent console anyway.
Going back to the point if you guys really think the PS4 is a engineering marvel.. well
I have no agenda in this thread, I'm simply observing (read: stalking all of you). However, I just feel the need to reply to this post. The M18x is indeed expensive, but crossfire 7970ms will certainly crush the PS4's GPU performance. A single 7970m is roughly the same speed as a 7870, therefore about the same speed as the PS4's GPU or perhaps even a bit faster. Two certainly can output better graphical performance.
I don't really care about how AMD is competing with Intel in other markets. But saying the CPU and GPU in the Mac Air are better than the PS4 is a downright lie and shows on significant amount of bias from your side.

CPU wise a Core i5 is way faster than a Jaguar. That's not bias... Jaguar core is slower than a Phenom II a 7 year old architecture.
The GPU is faster than the HD5000 but not that much faster than you would think.
Again check benchmarks.

But my $3000 laptop can do way better!Benchmarks? Fine.
Cinebench R11.5 (CPU):
Intel Core i7-4500U @ 2 x 3.0 Ghz: 2.4 points
AMD Jaguar @ 8 x 1.6 Ghz: 3.33 points
3DMark 2013 Fire Strike (GPU)
Intel HD5000: 650
AMD HD 7870: 5,240
The i7-4500U, by the way, costs $399 for the CPU alone. Funny how that works.
