Oh god, I'm listening to Abra's Rose album right now and it's just sublime. The vocal melodies on the whole album (Atoms!) are just orgasmic. This passage in particular:

and no i will not pardon a rolling stone
a heartless soul or
a bag of bones with no control

Thanks to this great thread (only been browsing the last 4 pages).

Anyway, just wanted to chime in with this thread and I've been on a modern RnB kick the last couple of months with some amazing stuff by especially Rochelle Jordan (my favorite so far).

I haven't seen a single mention of the appropriately titled debut alberm We Are KING

Incredibly smooth, gorgeous r&b fully endorsed by Prince, Erykah, and Questlove. One of the most essential new releases in quite a while, imo

This KING album is serious. 2016 is off to an amazing start. Anderson .Paak with Malibu, and now this.

Love the We Are KING album, been listening to it on and off since it was released. Still sounds fresh whenever I play it lol. Also, I recently found out that 9th Wonder sampled Hiatus Kaiyote - Molasses (my favorite track off CYW) on the song Anderson Paak - Without You. Sooo good!

We Are King is my favorite album of 2016 so far. So ethereal, atmospheric, and romantic.

Digging into this Jamila Woods - Heavn LP. Love the title track.

Edit: Forgot about the GAWD Maxwell - BlackSUMMERSnight! I like this way more than BLACKsummersnight. Favorites are "All the Ways Love Can Feel" (those horns!) and "1990x" (starts off so strong and gets even stronger with the drums at the end, hoo wee).

I really need to look at some of your guys' recs. I've always had a soft spot for R&B. It seems like it has moved out of that period in a lot of genre's where it becomes overdone and saturated by the mainstream and commercial music industry, but then it rebounds and its better than ever. I love how music is like that.

Bought a 12" Alpine Type R. First jam imma blast is Abras Pull Up. Fuck man. Currently blasting it with my Pioneer towers and that jam fucking gets inside of you with how deep the vibe goes

Four years after this topic was created and R&B still hasn't come back strong.

R&B is still very much underground. Sure a few songs here and there break the surface, but I wouldn't say we're seeing an R&B resurgence yet. When you start seeing 2-3 R&B songs regularly in the Top Ten again then you'll know R&B is back in a strong way.

Solange’s New Album, A Seat At The Table, Is Out This Friday

Good to see that she's good with Dev again. I'm excited for this. True EP was cool.
Album of the year for me.
