2pac might not have been the best rapper of his time but I loved the energy he had in his music. It's a shame he had to die so young.

God damn did this thread piss me off. Then bish's post made up for it.

Pac is a legend. I grew up listening to the man. To me he's the GOAT and there is no one even close to taking that crown away from him. He was a true poet, not even my most favourite rapper alive can hold a candle to him. He's just got those raw real lyrics that I feel in my heart. Man listening to his work is spiritual. Rest in peace.

Gonna post some of my favourite Pac verse to get some content up in here. Unconditional Love and Pain are my favourite tracks by him, they flip flop at times, but I'd give the edge to Unconditional Love. Especially the verse I'm quoting, I feel and relate to that shit so much. Damn I miss Pac. Rap just ain't the same.

Come listen to my truest thoughts, my truest feelings
All my peers doing years beyond drug dealing
How many caskets can we witness
Before we see it's hard to live
This life without God, so we must ask forgiveness
Ask mama why i got this urge to die
Witness the tears falling free from my eyes
Before she could reply
Though we were born without a silver spoon
My broken down TV, show cartoons in my living room (hey)
One day I hope to make it
A player in this game
Mama don't cry, long as we try
Maybe things change
Perhaps it's just a fantasy
A life where we don't need no welfare
Shit with our whole family
Maybe it's me that caused it
The fighting and the hurting
In my room crying cause I didn't want to be a burden
Watch mama open up her arms to hug me
And I ain't worried bout a damn thang, with unconditional love

They'll never take me alive
I'm gettin' high with my four-five,
Cocked on these suckas, time to die
Even as a youngster causin' ruckus on the back of the bus,
I was a fool all through high school kickin' up dust,
But now I'm labelled as a trouble maker who can you blame?
Smokin' weed helped me take away the pain,
So I'm hopeless,
Rollin' down the freeway swervin, don't worry,
I'm about to crash up on the curb, 'cause my visions blurry
Maybe if they tried to understand me,
What should I do?
I had to feed my fuckin' family,
What else could I do?
But be a thug,
Out slangin' with the homies,
Fuck hangin' with them phonies in the clubs,
Got my mind on danger,
Never been a stranger to homicide,
My city's full of gang bangers and drive-bys,
Why do we die at an early age?
He was so young,
But still a victim of the 12 gauge,
My memories of a corpse,
Mind full of sick thoughts, IIIIIIIIIII
And I ain't goin' back to court,
So fuck what you thought,
I'm drinkin' hennessey,
runnin from my enemies,
Will I live to be 23?
In so much pain.

Back in elementary, I thrived on misery
Left me alone I grew up amongst a dyin breed
Inside my mind couldn't find a place to rest
until I got that Thug Life tatted on my chest
Tell me can you feel me? I'm not livin in the past, you wanna last
Be tha first to blast, remember Kato
No longer with us he's deceased
Call on the sirens, seen him murdered in the streets
Now rest in peace
Is there heaven for a G? Remember me
So many homies in the cemetery, shed so many tears

And I can't help but wonder why, so many young kids had to die
Caught strays from AK's and the driveby
Swollen pride and homicide, don't coincide
Brothers cry for broken lives, mama come inside
Cause our block is filled with danger
Used to be a close knit community but now we're all cold strangers
Time changes us to stone them crack pipes
All up and down the block exterminating black life
But I can't blame the dealers
My mama's welfare check has brought the next man chrome wheels
Shit's real, I know ya feel, my tragedy
A single mother with a problem child, daddy free
Hanging out picking up game, sipping cheap liquor
Gamin the hoochies hoping I can get to sleep with her
It's a man's world, staying strapped
Fantasies of a nigga living phat, but held back
Pipe dreams can make the night seem hopeless
Wide eyed and losing focus... on my block

Keep your head up said:

Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth then the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

I'll post more if people want.

I think Pac would of retired from Rap after awhile. I think acting would of taken over. I highly doubt that he would still be releasing albums right now if he were alive.
Actually, I can see this happening. He would have been an actor. Honestly his discography is enough already.

Has there ever been a Wu-Tang thread? (Just asking becaus hip-hop gaf is here)

I'd like to see GAF debate on who was the greatest rapper in the group.
We've had a few Wu-Tang Clan threads judging by the search feature, and we've had debates over who is the "best" rapper in the group several times within the main GAF-Hop threads.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

More than likely a pic for the ladies. The skinny jeans and performance was horrible.
Pac would have been 40 years old if he were alive today, of course he would have looked down on the skinny jeans thing.

Could never get into rap or Tupac. Just wondering which of his posthumous songs seem to reference things from after his death?

Not counting the Chappelle bit. (Which is one of the funniest things from Chappelle's Show)

First time I heard of Tupac was back in primary school around 97 when I was hanging out with a fellow pupil who constantly rapped this one line/verse from what he said was from a Tupac song. At the time, he told me that he didn't know the song's name and that he only knew it because his big brother played it regularly in his room. Again, rap music was still new to me back then and my only experience of it was from the Space Jam soundtrack I had on cassette.

It wasn't until I randomly caught the "Until the End of Time" video late one night on MTV back in the early 2000s that I started to get into his music. It got me all the way through high school and I even enjoyed listening to Ghetto Gospel on repeat.

It certainly came as a surprise years after primary school when I heard the line "n----- think they learned to fly/But they burn motherf you deserve to die" on Hit 'em Up and realised "Hey! that's the song that kid was rappin' all those years back".

Anyway, Here's two of my favourite tracks I'd like to share:

Brenda's Got a Baby

Only God Can Judge Me

shorty_symd. Only God Can Judge Me is one hell of a song. I feel laidback whenever I hear it, nostalgic too. But my most favourite Tupac song is "All About Me".

I just found out Tupac's main producer Johnny J commited suicide back in 2008. Damn.

And Bishoptl, mothafuckin AMAZING work! THUG LIFE!

Rest In Peace, Tupac.

I will always remember the moment I heard of the shooting. I was at home in the middle of the day, about to take a nap on the couch. The TV was on and tuned in to the local news. The anchor lady said he had been shot the night before and not much else. I sat up and was like 'wtf'. I think I bruched it off after a few moments and thought he'd be okay since he hadn't died already.

I grew up listening to pretty much only West Coast stuff because that's what everyone played, so he's the GOAT to me.

2pacalypse Now and Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z... have some pretty underrated cuts, I would add Words of Wisdom, Souljah's Revenge and Point Tha Finga up there too.

Personally, the songs he did from 93-94 are some of my favorites. When you listen to his last verse on Hellrazor for example, the guy's literally gasping for air after every line, he really was going all out. Only Fear of Death gives me chills too.

I agree completely.

Here's one I bet a lot of people have never heard since it was only released on a later greatest hit type album.

Dopefiend's diner

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsbHerIlupM

I really love that song. I don't think there's really any other 2pac song like it because of how hes kind of singing it. I'm not sure when he made it but I'm sure its pre death row. It's a pretty sad song.

If he were still alive, I think he would have gotten out of the thug life gangster life and become an activist or a politician or a writer or whatever, and done great at any of them.

Yup

Here's a small clip of him saying he was tired of rap.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv3BjoYn8mg

He wrote a screenplay while he was in prison that is supposed to be made into a movie at some point but I'm not sure if that will ever happen. It's called Live 2 Tell.

Because 2pac was indie and underground before he died?

No one I knew gave a shit about him until he died. Then I saw all the teen sisters of my friends deciding they loved him. Putting RIP with Sharpie on their arms, etc. It was pretty sad.

The reason why 2pac and Biggie are revered is, yes their deaths play a factor but at the same time they were both extremely talented and were commercially successful with at the same time keeping it real. The sad thing is, after they died too many people were busy trying to emulate their success while not even attempting to be lyrical or introspective.

2pac is probably my favorite rapper. I absolutely despise what happened to his unreleased music (remixed by his record label), I am glad the originals got a chance to leak and it was great finding all this "new" Pac music during the Napster era. I feel like if they were just put out in CDQ on albums there'd be more classics under his belt.

I prefer the OG "Words to My First Born", the sax and somberness does it for me.

Also love Pac's performance in Letter To The President[/URL.

[URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQDLEdX-Bio"]Late Night
<-- great beat by DJ Quik, lol @ Pac dissing his false accuser.

This is how you remix an unreleased 2pac track. Daz fuckin' hooked Pac up with a good beat, you'd think this is the original the way it flows Don't Go 2 Sleep feat DPG

What Afeni and Interscope should have done is, if they were going to remix nearly all of Pac's unreleased work, then they could have at least had Daz and Johnny J be the executive producers. Some remixes did Pac justice, most didn't.

Bishop, that was absolutely the funniest banning I've ever seen. Double middle finger beyond the grave, had me cracking up like a motherfucka.

I agree, but like I said, it was my small rural town that didn't care one minute.

It was actually Tupac's death that really made rap start to shine...within two years, even farmer kids were bumping.

RIP to a legend. I never liked him, wouldnt even put him in my top ten, but he was a great man in his own way. Had a distinctive and unique delivery and flow and nobody did it like him, had some great songs even if he wasn't the best on the mic.

The best Wu member is of course...

And here's the thing w/2pac's image. I go back and forth on his "credibility". Ok, 2pac was NOT a killer, he just had gang ties towards the end through Suge. The only difference with Pac and why his credibility is 'questionable' is because we saw him before the "thuggery". But even on his first album he expresses gangsterapism, just not as vocal or as vulgar. 1st album he is talking about a shootout with the police on "Violent". Even before signing with Deathrow he shot two off-duty police officers in self-defense and got off. 2pac also seemingly had a rougher life than some of these rap ziggans. Yeah he studied in the arts and was intelligent but at the same time he had to have been crazy, his upbringing just sounds depressing. No dad, hustler stepdad who eventually got killed, crackhead mom, homeless at one point and a lot of his uncles and father figures become political prisoners or were dead. No amount of ballet or acting is going to fix that upbringing. The only difference between Pac and other rappers was that he talked a lot of shit which is why his 'cred' gets scrutinized. I can guarantee other people had a "better life" but they weren't talkin' about thug life or had a super gangsta image. My whole thing with rappers is, if you grew up in the streets, you have the right to talk about it. That's your surroundings than it is what it is.

Unfortunately Pac was killed at the height of his "thuggery", so he gets pidgeonholed into that image. It's understandable, whodie got shot on some street shit in '94 and found a common ally in Suge. He was young (23) and I'm sure scared, so Suge being a gangsta was part of the appeal to signing to Deathrow. It's just that I don't think Pac had the foresight to believe he'd get shot up again. Dre was smart enough to foresee the bullshit (Dre was 6yrs older than Pac) and has even reflected that it could have been him instead of Pac back in Vegas. I'm only 29 and feel like I'm a lot smarter than I was at 25 (Dre was 31 at the time of Pac's death). The whole thing is just unfortunate. Fuck Suge Knight, I'm glad he got knocked out a few yrs back.
