I agree that the first game's story was better but overall I greatly prefer AC2. The repetitiveness of AC1 entirely killed it for me. The first time I tried to play through it I got bored after assassinating the first 2 targets and didn't finish it until about a year later. Worst part is when you think you're done with the assassinations and they tell you to kill 2 more targets. Sucked so much.Assassin's Creed 1 had a better story and gameplay felt mostly the same, I never found the game too great and only played it a few months before 2 came out. I thought it had a lot of flaws and was hoping Assassin's Creed 2 would fix everything, but in the end I had the same complaints about gameplay and hated Ezio, also the first game's story felt a lot more mysterious and somewhat understated, it was from 2 onwards that the story became a mess (that's not to say that Ass Creed 1 had a great story by any means). I know many people didn't like the first one due to the repetitive nature but it was something I didn't mind too much.
I liked Bioshock 2 but to me it felt more like an expansion pack than a true sequel. It was pretty much the same game with a different story. The gameplay and surroundings were practically the same which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it certainly doesn't make it a better game than part 1. Also, I didn't really find the story as interesting and surprisingly (dat plot) as Bioshock 1's. I did like the parts that focused more on the little sisters, though.I only enjoyed Bioshock 2 more because it was more fun to me, like a refined version of the first.

In the end I prefer AC2 simply because there's more variety and I prefer the setting. I love Italy. The language, culture, cities and history. Ezio may have not been really likable but I didn't think Altair was a great character either. I think AC2 is good example of a sequel done well. It improved on the biggest issues while still staying true to the first game.

Lair was better than what most people said, pre-patch.
Those motion controls were an abortion, as all motion controls are.
But after the patch...it really was a solid game. Not great, but the studio didn't deserve to sink because of it.

I thought AC1 was the pinnacle of the series. such an excellent game and the sequels never managed to match up.
Seems more like a controversial opinion about playing actual instruments than games.I think playing guitar hero/rock band was way better than learning to actually play guitar.

If Angry birds and Gameloft ripoffs are your thing, well...Ummmm yeaaaaah
It's less an opinion and more of a sad gamer secret:
I have a sealed copy of Valkyria Chronicles, sealed because I didn't want to open it since it didn't have trophies. And I lie to myself and friends that it's sealed because I wanted it that way for the collector's value... (I do collect though).
This is one of the biggest mysteries on GAF. Why, in the name of all that is holy, would you choose to not play a game, just because it doesn't have trophies? I mean, are you fucking kidding me? Who cares! Why deny yourself a game, just because it doesn't have this completely arbitrary reward system?
Wario64 said he was enjoying VC, but stopped when he found out it didn't have trophies. He stopped playing a game he was thoroughly enjoying because it had no trophies. Similarly, I've heard people play a game they dislike just to get the trophies.
Words fail me.

I hate both of those but there are some amazing iOS games out there. If Angry birds and Gameloft ripoffs are your thing, well...Ummmm yeaaaaah
I fully understand the appeal of Achievements/Trophies, it's a nice simple reward system and in some cases can provide an interesting challenge you normally would do in a game. I just wish people could realise and utilise the ability of creating their own challenges if they need such a thing to play a game. Aye it'll lack something popping up on screen, but a note pad off to the side (digital or not) still lets you see it checked off.
I will say I'm thankful for the idea in general though. So many games finished because someone wanted a "saw the ending" achievement/trophy. I try to ignore the dark side where people play games they hate and get no enjoyment from for the same purpose (bragging rights or not).

The Hive isn't really a bad level. What ticked people off was, specifically, the ability to slap wall boobs and blow up Duke's girlfriends, the Wholsom twins, as these things were percieved as misogynistic.

This is really THE biggest reason I sometimes wish achievements weren't around, playing through a crap game for them is the lesser of two evils (especially since most of the time that's probably just a rental/cheap used copy that's quickly thrown back). Worse a crap game gets a small minority getting it just for easy achievements than a great-yet-niche game missing sales/acclaim or lacking them at all. Ignoring those issues I find them to be a fun extra to get (though I probably stated that too many times now), but I rarely go out of my way for them. I might try to platinum FFXIII-2 for them, but that's just because it sounds easy and doesn't require some ridiculous amount of grinding like FFXIII did.Oh don't get me wrong, I enjoy cheevs/trophies, I think if they are done right, they can add some real fun to the game. I also kind or get people slogging through a game to get the "finished the campaign" trophy, I get that. But denying yourself the enjoyment of a great game, because your PlayStation doesn't pat you on the head every hour or so is lunacy to me.
Damn, I thought I felt strongly about it! But yeah, took the words right out of my mouth with the bolded part. Correctomundo indeed.I'm past the point of caring how other people play their games. In all honesty, Achievements and Trophies are no different than other player ascribed milestones and speed runs. I mean, if they get a kick, who am I to say they shouldn't? That said, if they disappeared tomorrow, nothing would change about either the games I play or my habits in playing them.
There are two things that I don't understand, however. First, skipping games that don't have them purely because they don't have them - and in an even bigger baffler, people like worldrevolution who can still play games on a platform that didn't employ these dangling carrots without a problem, but won't touch a game like Valkyria Chronicles that doesn't when it's console counterparts do. Like it's somehow better to deny yourself the quality of the game for lacking an ultimately useless feature that has no bearing on ANYTHING. Who loses in that scenario? The achievement whore does. Every. Single. Time.
And second, why is it that we still don't have any way to opt out of the damned things? I can turn off notifications, but that's not good enough. What if I want the entire system purged of these little yardsticks other people are measuring me with?

Ding ding ding. Winner!
I'm firmly in the 'fuck achievements' camp. Get them out of my games.
(Trophies)

I didn't like Dark Souls, and I'm not convinced many people do.
I've beaten all Zelda games BUT Ocarina of time.
Be gentle. I'm new.
I can see where he's coming from. The love for Dark Souls resembles that for Coen bros films (though the game is obviously not that bad). It's a niche game that shouldn't be enjoyed by so many people so vehemently. That means there's either a group of people that don't want to speak out, out of fear not being gaming ALPHA, or people that shouldn't like it but do out of wanting to fit in with the game connoisseur peer group.lolololololololool
NOOOOO.
You can't.
Turning off notifications turns off incoming message notifications and friend login/logout notifications, but it flipping doesn't turn off trophy notifications.
That's my whole issue with them. I do not want to get a BING in some games, especially Ico + SotC.

Does the Coen bros hate apply to "No Country for Old Men"?
I dislike Nintendos urgo to give their games are more "epic" context by integrating orchestrated soundtracks into them. I found none of SMGs 1/2 or Zelda TP/SwSs score particulary appealing, they were just boring, forgettable and nowhere near as catchy as the music from previous generations. To an extend this also applies to the Pokemon DS games. While they do have some good music (and remixes of older tracks), many town and route themes are just elevator music.
No Country For Old Men is weird. I understand why the storyline ended the way it did, I understand that there's a message that ties very closely with the ending.
But man, if it didn't want to be such a bummer, I would've enjoyed it so much more. Like on the same caliber of the classic spaghetti westerns.
That was in reference to the PS3, where every notification BUT tropies could be disabled. Must be due to the fact it was grafted on later in its life and most want them or are apathetic. Though the 360 could improve there too given it's all or nothing on their front, but at least NieR could be fully beaten without anything popping up.Really? I could have sworn it turned off achievement notifications, too. If I can ever kick my girlfriend off the 360, I'll give it a look-see.
It was torture, but I fought my way through.and your opinion is? Also why would you play the CD-I games that's just poor judgement.
People who think that people like Demon's/Dark Souls to be cool are idiots who shouldn't be allowed to say things.
Saturn had the best 2D hardware of its generation, but its 3D abilites were generally not all that great. As for the Genesis, it had some great third party games, but it was still lacking in numbers compared to the SNES.
I've never liked SMW very much, always thought it was a rushed, boring rehash of SMB3 (which is a vastly superior game)
I've seen some pretty controversial opinions in this thread, but "people who have opinions I don't like shouldn't be allowed to voice them" probably takes the cake.
