I'm close to being done with this game. Performance tanks on the PS4 in bigger battles, which is most of them now. I had another instance of the framerate literally turning into a slide show after encountering two little fighters. The difficulty spikes are ridiculous, level 5 equipment and I'm running away from most battles atm because all the little ships non stop bombardment plus the huge multiple ships. Getting constantly pulled out of warp like a high encounter rate jrpg, and fuck the Greel.

On top of all that bullshit the game has crashed twice on me, second one happening now, while I was docking... Which corrupted my fucking save.

Stay away from the PS4 version.

Edit: bleh back up save from right when you leave the first system, back in the first ship, such bullshit

I picked up the Scarab and I grabbed in some battle a Mk3 Badger missile turret. Really nice to have a long range missile option that never runs out of ammo.

My game did crash to the PS4 dash a good five or six times throughout all the time I spent with the game, but it was pretty infrequent, and the performance was never even remotely an issue for me. There was a bit of slowdown on occasion with the really large-scale battles, but certainly nothing approaching unplayable. I think you may be an outlier in this area.

Yeah. I've had zero crashes and even in my largest battles frame rate dip hasn't been noticeable enough to cause me to really notice. Granted I'm not at the end of the game yet but I have been in some pretty big furballs.

No, I'm not an outlier, nothing is wrong with my PS4, I'm just not blind to a low framerate. The fact you think it was acceptable that it crashed five or six times is ridiculous, no excuse it should be crashing that much on a closed platform. As for the game being unplayable, no where did I state such a thing in my post, I said the framerate tanks in large battles, wouldn't surprise me if it dropped below twenty in some of the battles I was in, eyeballing the fps. A lot of people think that's fine because they are oblivious to it, if your not, as I stated, you should avoid the console versions.

You sure it's not throttling due to heat? It can cause both crashing and abnormal slow down.

Considering I play other games that clearly push the hardware far harder than this little indie game and they don't exhibit the same behavior, its not heat related.

Well you can't be too sure of that, indie games are often much harder on systems than AAA even if they look much worse. Rocket league's menu was frequently melting PS4s even though users had no issues in other games.

I think it's a bit early for Rebel Galaxy on PS4 because I can't find anything out about technical issues on google.. or actually much about Rebel galaxy PS4 at all. Given the game is only running at 30 fps already I hope they do some optimization for it.

So I fired this game up again the other day to try to earn a few more trophies (currently at 87% complete), and I was wondering how you go about finding Pirate Lords. I think I only saw one through my entire playthrough.

I'm doing the Rescue Attempt mission and I have to say that it's really shitty that not only do you have to find 3 shield generators in the middle of a huge war, not only do you have to destroy them single handedly while a hundred enemy ships are trying to kill you, but that you also have to do it before Xenya's giant but seemingly defenseless milita ship and its numerous escorts get blown up. So frustrating.

Sometimes it's easier to come back later when your ship has better equipment and the mission is showing a lower threat level.

I just finished this a couple of hours ago. There wasn't much variety to the gameplay but I really enjoyed every minute I spent with the game.

It finally released on PS4 in Europe today, for those wondering.

yup, it's rather far down the list, though, due to the original submission / "release" date being 1 1/2 weeks ago. (the dev screwed up some metadata for non-english PSN stores, hence it had to be re-submitted)

It's after Infinifactory, before Star Wars - Bounty Hunter.

Can't wait to fire it up after work today.

Is there a certain way I should be fighting the greel?

I'm just at the point where mk 5 equipment is available and I've upgraded most of my stuff on the arcturus. Now every well paying mission that's average difficulty just has a ton of Greek frigates show up that spam leech rockets and lasers.

The leech rockets completely stop any movement without a booster and my shields are basically always down after the fight starts. I try to take out one ship at a time but they always put up deflectors then fly away before I can do any real damage.

Besides the upgrade to negate some of the leech effects, how should I be going about it?

i've been playing a few hours straight, yesterday.

it's always a good indicator of how well a game grabs me, if my TV does the "are you still there? press OK or i'm gonna turn off in 30 seconds" thing.

Within the first 20 minutes i got blown up multiple times, but ever since i got that deflector and ever since i got a bit more careful, i've been able to blow up patrol groups of multiple non-fighter ships.

I'm really into the reward loop - especially upgrades to ship speed are something that keep the "this upgrade will make me earn money even faster" feeling going.

Britgaf here, utterly loving this game. I've not noticed any particular performance issues on the PS4 but I think I've had about 5 crashes to the dashboard so far.

Managed to get the Manticore this morning though, so I ain't even mad.

Best OST in a game for a long time too!

People have been swearing blind it's 30fps when it very clearly drops frames here and there panning the camera in most areas of space, it's probably just framerate blindness.

I'm enjoying the game but the comments about Greel are worrying, even in the first area of the solar map I'm coming up against smaller groups of enemies who take my shields down straight away, and they're upgraded as far as is available. Soundtrack needs to be an OST CD.

I had a moment last night that made me feel like a complete bad ass.

I was doing a rescue mission and after the first wave a line of torpedo bombers warped in and let rip. His forward shield was pretty much gone already and the first volley ripped the rest of it away and most of his armor. I was moving forward to engage but they had already loosed a second volley and I was afraid it would roast him. I managed to boost and swing in front of the missiles, soaking them up with my deflector and shields before beginning to rain hell on their formation and saved the mission.

One of those perfect moments.

Turns out the trick to winning larger battles withe the greel and such is to just grind credits and upgrade your ship to mk.6 everything. Shields rarely go down unless I'm taking on a dreadnought or a ton of ships.

I'll most likely finish the game this weekend but I just want to grind out the 15 million or so to get myself a fully equipped dreadnought and breeze through everything.

I just tried to get to a less "populated" area, and pick them one by one.

I finished it yesterday, but I had to do the final mission 3 times, the first time a small moon destroyed my Blackgate almost instantly after coming out of a warp, the second time, my pc just froze after I went out for a few minutes. The thing is that the fight is really good, so it wasn't such a chore.

The feel of getting the blackgate and then killing a small cruiser with 3 full salvos of the broadsides.

Now to just sick around going to areas I haven't seen yet and buying mk 6 turrets. What kind of end game turret loadouts are people using?

I think I'll have 5 particle lasers, 6 or 7 pulse cannons and the rest as middle launchers. Also going to finally switch out my flak secondary for heat seekers.

Got my platinum on this in 38 hours....absolutely worth the 20 bucks they are asking. I did have about 10 crashes during that 38 hours...

Just finished the main campaign and took down the biggest enemy ship within 30 seconds flat.

Really enjoyed my time with the game and it was worth the full $20 I paid for it. Probably wont go back and grind for the platinum but if I do ever replay I will go in as a pirate for fun shenanigans.

Bought this on the Steam sale there, I've upgraded my first ship a bit, should I just save for a bigger ship instead?

You could or you could upgrade it a bit more, and use those upgrades to complete better bounties/missions and save for your next ship.

If you buy a new ship before you adequately upgrade your old one, the difficulty spike is going to be rather unpleasant. Best to upgrade equipment before going for a new ship.

Ok thanks guys, doesn't seem to be a big rush to upgrade then. Weapons and stuff can be transferred from ship to ship right?

Also, there's no reduction in resale value, so don't be afraid to experiment. If you buy a more expensive ship, then trade down again, you'll get back the difference. My experience in the game was that all your capital should be tied up in your ship and its equipment; if you're running around with a cash surplus then that's just wasted.

I actually stuck with the starter ship for quite a while and just upgraded equipment. I was more than a match for the stuff I ran into early on. The Barracuda is a good all-around ship that you should be aiming for. I used that for the majority of the game.

bought this earlier this month on PS4 and did almost no story missions, put all my time into trading and getting higher guild ranks until I had everything except warp and a few turrets to MK6. Broadsider augmentations for 25% better range, 25% faster charge and 25% faster reload in the Sturville ship (the very fast one from the mercenary guild).

The PS4 version just can't keep up with higher warp speeds that's why even MK5 warp upgrade didn't make much sense. A lot of times, I reach a space space station and, uh... nothing there(?!), then 2-4 seconds later the stations pops in and is super close in front of me. Warp pairing and approaching asteroid fields causes crashes regularly. Yesterday my game crashed 3 times in 2 1/2 hours.
After I restarted the game again, I was told that my save file was corrupted and it would make a new one so I could star the campaign over. No "we're terribly sorry", no option to file an error report, nothing. -.- fantastic...
Now I get why this game has save file management options in the main menu (btw., no online save-file present, even though I have PS+ subscribed and the auto-upload option activated, but maybe that's because I rarely use stand-by mode and mostly shut down the console completely after use).

On top of all that bullshit the game has crashed twice on me, second one happening now, while I was docking... Which corrupted my fucking save.

Stay away from the PS4 version.

Looks, like I'm not alone.

My question: Is this just a shitty port?
Because... if the PC version is better, I might buy it again in a steam sale and use cheat engine to get my ship where I had on PS4 (definitely not gonna play it on PS4 again), would just take some guild leveling and 5-7 main missions and I'd be where I left.

I picked this up a couple of days ago as it was on sale on EU PSN for like 8 quid.

Having an absolute blast. Great fun. Really scratching the space warfare itch, granted I'm still messing around in the first solar system, out of choice, mostly due to there being so much to do.

Saving up for that Radovoid ship from the merchant guild. Looks like a beast!

Just started playing, is there some kind of trick to mining?

Picked up the laser and 1/2 of the sensor upgrade. Took like an hour to fill my small cargo hold detroying dozens of asteroids and my payout was a whopping 380 credits.

I'm clearly doing something wrong

Disappointing to see that this runs poorly on PS4. Obviously got it from PS+ and I wanted to give it a shot to compare it to NMS. Been wanting to play it for a while since seeing the GB Quick look, but not bought it on Steam yet.

I haven't had any problems on PS4.

Just try it for yourself.

I bought this last fall and never had any issues.

Just getting into this, some questions :

-I'm thinking instead of upgrading, I should just save and buy a whole new ship. It's only 30k more, but there aren't many easy and medium missions left that I see. What I should do?

-What music is good with this game? I don't like its soundtrack and I've already played Interstellar a few times

Keep in mind that if you upgrade your ship, the extra slots don't come with anything preinstalled so they'll be empty. Early on upgrading your ship makes sense, but afterwards it's always a good idea to hunker down and get the next tier of stuff installed--it can be a huge power boost. (Quest difficulties are directly related to the strength of your ship and components.)

And music, eh. I like the soundtrack but I just mute it and listen to podcasts for long stretches.

Finally got back into this after beating the first couple of missions.

What a blast. A proper market, factions, and decent combat. I think it is amongst my favorite PS Plus games. Right up there with Infamous Last Light, Freedom Wars, Just Cause 2, and Dragon's Dogma.

Just felt like talking about RG again...I got back into this 2 weeks ago, and actually played half-smart (versus attacking much bigger things), and man, is it fun. If you like space games, and you have this sitting in your library like I did, i'd recommend it be moved to the top of the back log list.

Hire a mercenary - thats my tip.
