Rick and Morty S3 |OT| Keeping Summer Safe - Sundays on Adult Swim

Morty is basically giving the same "nothing matters" speech here, yet people somehow got a lot more bent out of shape when Rick does it. Is it the tone? The intention behind it? You don't like Rick's "It's because I'm so smart lol" justification?

I've never complained about Rick doing that kind of stuff, but for Morty it represented growth of his character and a running continuity, things that I didn't expect from the series to that point.

But yeah, I still don't complain about it when Rick does it, just Morty's speech was one of the things that hooked me.

Morty's speech:

"Nothing matters, no one is special, we're all going to die, make the most of your life before that happens"

Rick's Speech:

"The universe is a shitty place, nothing matters because you're special, you're so special that everyone else is shit, but you and i are smart and not shit, so you gotta deal with the shittiness of the universe and cling to how much of a special snowflake you are!"

What

The pilot is literally the worst episode in the series

Agreed BUT it does have

Morty: Oh, man. I mean, you know, I-I don't want to shoot nobody.
Rick: They're just robots, Morty! It's okay to shoot them! They're robots!
(Morty shoots a Glenn, blowing his leg off, and making blood gush out as he drops down in pain)
Glenn: Aaaaah! My leg is shot off!
Other Gromflomite: Glenn's bleeding to death! Someone call his wife and children!
Morty: They're not robots, Rick!
Rick: It's a figure of speech, Morty. They're bureaucrats. I don't respect them.

So it gets a pass from me. I also really love the delivery of "It detects things all the way up your butt"

Good moment, and it reminds me how different the voice acting direction was back then

I can't say I really like it, lol

That joke is essentially the hook for Rick and Morty. One good joke to rule the world.

The pilot and every episode in season 1 are hilarious and perfect. Seasons 2 and 3 are neutered.. still good.. but clearly downplaying the edge that made the show so good in the first place.

Hopefully they weren’t lying when they said season 4 will be more streamlined like 1. I don’t need Dan Harmon’s real life divorce drama bleeding into a show about interdimensional hijinx.

Disagree, Gazorazorp episode was far worst

Lets not forget the part in the pilot where Rick gives morty an inspirational speech then sees the monster crawling up behind and going

"Holy shit morty, Run I've never seen anything like that, Run we're going to die!"

Hilarious

The opening segment for the pilot was what sold me on the show. I had seen ads for it going in, but was just watching because that was what was on Adult Swim at the time.

"I had to do it Morty. I had to build a (burp) bomb."

I thought the finale was very funny. Good episode.

Weakest of the season was either Rickmancing the Stone or ABC's of Beth.

Best were Rickshank, Ricklantis, and Rest and Ricklaxation.

While everyone else is creating ordered lists, I'm sitting here and realizing how impressive it is that my least favorite episodes are ones that I still consider to be quite good. I find that to be a huge achievement.

I'm just now getting around to watching this season. More than halfway through and it's.. ok? Some of the gratuitous violence is just kind of lost on me.

Yeah. The show was always violent from the get go, but now it's kinda turning into gore porn at places.

Seems like Pickle Rick was hit or miss for a lot of people.

I don't get how the absurdity of the entire episode didn't strike a chord with everyone, but to each his own.

Oh come on, it has always been violent and disturbing

Not much happened was said in that episode outside of a few choice moments in the therapy session. Its all very well animated and creative in its violence but seeing Rick being Rick by himself and just doing crazy violent shit got old by the time he was fighting rats. The violence isn't the issue, its just not an episode with much going on for the most part.

I’ve been trying to get my brother to watch the show. So he has been. But called me yesterday to say Pickle Rick was the first episode he found to be hilarious. :/

Yup. That said, it seems like a lot of people were sold only because Rick yells "I'm Pickle Rick," which shouldn't be a surprised after Tiny Rick caught on, but is still pretty annoying to see. I'm just glad I haven't run into people like that in real life, but my friends have been less fortunate.

Or maybe they just liked the episode?

He only shouted pickle Rick for a second besides Morty reaction to that is what sells

Plus there is still the rest of the episode that people on gaf with some exceptions pretty much enjoyed

Pickle Rick was good because of the juxtaposition of the absurd (Rick turning himself into a pickle, rigging up some insane body for himself, killing dozens of well trained secret agents) with the mundane (Beth is confronted by a therapist for her destructive behavior). That's sort of Rick and Morty's forte with A and B plots, but I feel like it was taken to the next level there.

And then those two completely different plot threads meet at the end in this strange, surreal family therapy session.

One of my favorites this season.

That line from Rick about "kinda eyeballing" putting together the Neutrino Bomb is really funny

Every episode has good stuff

Pickle Rick might be my favorite episode of the season. Rick going on an archetypical masculine (some might say toxically) adventure as an avoidance mechanism for therapy only to get called the fuck out at the end is great

Rick isn't all that interesting character to me when he's not bouncing off a character of note so Pickle Rick was kind of uninteresting to me outside of the visual aspect. Him just killing rats and random henchmen just got repetitive after a while and while Jaguar was great he wasn't in the episode much at all. Even the opening episode the season was kind of lackluster for me in that respect once Rick killed off Nathan Fillion's character.

It's mostly people using "Pickle Rick!" the way Rick constantly yelled "Tiny Rick!" in that one S2 episode.

Yup. It's not that they liked the episode. It's that they liked that one line. A lot. And quote it. A lot. Without the context that made it work.

Now there are fan theories we are getting a secret finale. Maybe trolling the fanbase is the right idea considering all of these theories.

I've mostly seen people thinking Mr. Poopy Butthole's comment about "growing a big 'ol Santa Claus beard" meant a Christmas special & not continuing his joke about how long Season 4 may take compared to how long Season 3 took. Which

Are these actual people that you know in real life? Or internet people that "yell" it by typing it? Or (most likely) hypothetical people that you read about in articles like that Vice article?

Wouldn't be the first time [adult swim] pulled some shit like this (ex. the Aqua Teen finale), but yeah, it's more likely just another classic example of fans grasping at straws after a disappointing finale by formulating insane conspiracy theories (like the Mass Effect 3 Indoctrination Theory or people speculating that Apple Tree Yard was actually going to be the missing 4th episode of Sherlock season 4).
