RTTP: Grand Theft Auto V

i think GTA V is the best one easily. from the first announcement back in 2011 right up to september 2013 i was super hyped for the game. bought it on PS3 and played for 15 hours straight. once i finished the story i immediately went through it again. bought it again for PS4 and then built a PC to play it. have bought it 3 times and played it 5 times. i never actually finished III/SA/VC but did play them A LOT and i did finish GTA IV but couldn't bring myself to play through it again.

the only thing that disappointed me about it was GTA Online. i don't mind multiplayer modes but rockstar has pretty much ignored the single player game. i will probably buy GTA VI but can't say i'm looking forward to it as much as i have previous games.

Really wish there was single player DLC missions and extras released for this. I could really do with revisiting the stunning world of GTA V. I had such a fantastic time with that game.

I still can't believe that they didn't do SP DLC. Sure MP brings them huge amount of money but SP DLC would too. It is just sad that they are ignoring big part of their userbase.

Are there any prime examples of videos created in the movie-maker feature?
Ideally music videos.

Looking for ideas on how to capture something.

It's a lot of fun but like every other rockstar open world game I got burnt out like half way through because of a meandering storyline, and the combat mechanics are still way weaker than they should be. At least they improved mission diversity a good amount from GTAIV and RDR. The highlight of the game is the world, which is just insanely detailed and gorgeous. Easily the best open world I've explored (or neck and neck with Witcher 3).

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?
Yeah, I loved it.

Online would be fun too if it was more like GTA IV's. They've ruined it with shark cards and the God awful matchmaking and loading times.

Just started playing this on the PC and now I remember what has always been one of my biggest problems with GTA. (since it went 3D at least)

I can't aim for shit with a controller and I hate driving with a keyboard and mouse. Switching back and forth is too cumbersome.

Anyone out there with the same problem that has found a good solution? Or maybe I should just "git gud" and play it with a controller...

probably the least played gta game for me, played to get all the trophies for SP then hardly went back

didnt like the 3 character split

thought the story was forgettable

and the main problem i had was that the SP was completely striped compared to the last few GTAs GTASA specifically since this also takes place in cali

where the hell is the functional casino? and all the side and odd jobs? paramedic, firefighter, freight, vigilante, exports/imports, burglar, ect

i cant even grab a hot dog or burger for a bite

the graphics controls where all superior to any other gta but without content there was little to do when the game was complete played only on PS4 btw

was a good game while it lasted but didnt have the longevity i remember that VC and SA had which is sad b/c of the attention to detail, graphics and controls where all there

I thought the PS3 version was very impressive. The game feels at home on PS4/XB1 though (I own the XB1 version now). Sure, the PC version is going to play the best, but the current gen consoles do the game justice.

Haven't played in a long time. Beat all the heists but what's new to do?

For online? They've added the stunt courses and racing, CEO stuff, import and exporting, warehouses and all that plus the motorcycle gang operation etc. There was the Tron stuff and lightcycle racing too but I dunno if that was a timed thing for Halloween. I mean Rockstar have had a steady flow and support for online these last 3 years, you can't fault them for that.

And despite owning the 360 and ps4 versions on day one I've still never beat single player...

Where do I go for the ceo and biker stuff?

The only things that stuck with me from this game are the incredible world detail and Slink Johnson absolutely stealing every single scene he was in, finding some way to translate Houser-speak into something that sounds natural and funny. The more time passes the more the game, as a whole, disappoints me. Character control is still awful, combat feels worse than the games it's pulling from (RDR and MP3), side missions are trash, the economy/properties are pointless, the narrative is capital G garbage..... idk man. After the initial "OMG THIS WORLD" awe wore off, the rest felt completely hollow. I wrapped up the final missions, which weren't satisfying whatsoever, and never even bothered to go back and clean up the map or wrap up the post game stuff. This incredible world, these great actors, this huge budget, this insane combination of composers crafting an amazing score, and.... this is the game we got? It's the first time I finished a new GTA and thought "Maybe I'm over this." All the ingredients to make an huge scale atmospheric crime epic and they just.... made another clownshoes GTA.

I need a dev to apply that Witcher 3 sauce to a modern open world action game.

I agree with a lot of this. I probably enjoyed it a little more than your post suggests you did but I find myself thinking less of it over time and even at the time of release, I thought the narrative was a huge, wasted opportunity. Rockstar's writing has very little subtlety and it makes certain moments almost embarrassing to witness. For example, Trevor's "GET IT, YET?!" monologue about torture at the end of that mission.

Credit where it's due to the amazing attention to detail, performances and one of the best game scores ever composed, but I think Rockstar are capable of so much better.

San Andreas is still the best game they've ever made.

without a doubt the worst mission in GTA history

Clearly you don't remember these.

I deleted GTAV from my PS4, but recently I've acquired a hankering for some single-player GTAV. I have no interest in the online components, which is a-ok with me seeing how I have limited internet. Question is, how big are the patches/updates I'll need to DL (outside of the disc installation). Does anyone know? If it's too big I might can it since it'll take too long on my satellite internet to DL.

I liked it, but I really wish Rockstar would learn how to make on foot controls feel good. It still feels sluggish. Also, they need to include ways to explore vertically. If they need to keep it grounded in reality for some dumb reason, I guess jetpacks are out of the question, but how about a grappling hook at least. I guess I just wish they would do a better job at making it a fun sandbox to play in.

But helicopters, and bi-planes, and parachutes?!

Have tried to start this game multiple times but am always shocked by how poorly it controls and how awful the shooting mecahics are. I’ve almost exclusively been playing Nintendo and From Spftware games for the last two years or so, so my standards and expectations for these things are rather high, but even on the most basic level I find that the controls and shooting are just complete crap. I wish somebody from Rockstar would play a 3D mario game and just focus on the joy that be obtained from exquisite player controls, and try to implement even a fraction of that into the next GTA, I might actually be able to get through an opening mission.

game should of just been about Michael to be honest

Trevor and Franklin were kind of meh, Michael was the most interesting of the 3

Just started playing this a week ago (PC with GTX660). Except for the intro I've only been playing GTA Online. Having a blast doing mostly races and some coop missions. Since I play with a DS4 deathmatches are no option as you simply cannot compete against mouse/keyboard players but I don't enjoy shooting people in the head that much anyway. Racing with motorcycles, jetskis, planes and cars of all classes on all sorts of crazy courses seems to never get old.

without a doubt the worst mission in GTA history
I don't know... there are plenty of missions in GTA history that simply involve picking someone up and driving from point A to point B, or purchasing a property. The mission that everyone seems to be complaining about ITT was fairly creative by comparison: one playable character extracts information with torture while another is out using that info to assassinate a target. It's actually a pretty well designed mission that could only work in V with the multiple protagonists.

But as a half assed political statement? Sure, it was stupid. Not even remotely as poignant as it tries to be with Trevor's monologue. But as a mission in a game where you can go around killing hookers and blowing up half the city, it was creative and fun.

OT: the PC version is glorious. It rivals IV as my GOAT.

One of the greatest games ever made IMO, it's a miracle for last gen console.
Agreed. It's so much better looking than GTA IV but at the same time it performed better somehow. It still had some areas where it could deep in the teens but overall it was a smoother experience with more consistent frame times.

GTA IV was a nightmare to play in comparison.

I have to admit OP, you've sparked my interest in going back to the game. I'm estimating on PS4 I played about 1/2 the campaign or so as a guess, but moved on before completing. I think a reinstall is in my immediate future.

you know what i take that back

all 3 protagonists were amazingly written, they all had their different quirks, but i take that back

Michael was still my favorite, but Trevor and Franklin were good now that i really think about it

Really liked it, I love the setup of the game, the choice of music is great, they did a very good job for the ending
That ending music with the almost pink sky, it was the best atmosphere possible, really made me want to go inside the game

Overall, you really think like you are becoming a rich thief in a glamorised Los Angeles and you are able to root deeply to the characters which are amazingly well written, every sentences is comical and well thought out, and although the main protagonists are extremes of some stereotypes I'm sure a lot of people could identify as them (probably more in Michael and Franklin, though)

Really sad that Rockstar won't be making singleplayer DLC, at least the multiplayer is pretty good, you can get plenty of hours of enjoyment out of it, if you ignore the shitty playerbase and the occasional hacker, that is.

There are some bad news. MF Doom whose music was in GTA V passed away with 49 years old.
RIP one of my favourite rappers.
I heard and my heart sunk.

The thing is, he passed away on Oct 31st, but it was only just publicly announced by his wife - which is a little sad as a fan, but understandable because his anonymity and private life was something he deemed important.

Rest in Peace, MF Doom. Thank you for the music you brought into this world.

Yeah, he was great. I can't imagine all the music we would have gotten is gone now.
