why does the poor predator not get any tessellation?

spazzfish said:Ok that's it. I've got to get myself a multi-screen setup. 3 monitors and a new graphics card will be mine when these cards get on the market. I've just got to convince myself that upgrading my main system up to an i7 rig isn't a worthwhile upgrade from what I have or i'm not going to be eating for quite a while.
Why is it disappointing? You get GTX295 performance for $100 less with DX11 goodness and then some (Eyefinity) etc. You dont have to deal with multi-gpu headaches etc.brain_stew said:If the 2GB 5870 is really $450 then that's pretty damn disapointing. Hopefully its $350/$400 for the 1GB/2GB models.

The 5870 has two 6 pin power connectors so it should be fine with most PSUs. Max TDP is rated at 187W.BattleMonkey said:So these new cards require a shit ton of new power cables attached to them? Assume this can be a problem with some older systems?

Agreed on all points, in fact I was re-iterating the same thing. RV770 came in lower because it wasnt the only and it was slower than GT200. Neither of this is true in this case, if it was and was still priced at $399 then it would have been a disappointment.xemumanic said:Probably because if nvidia wasn't late with their card, they wouldn't charge this much.
Not that this isn't a great price for what you get, nor is it shady, but business is business, and its a free market.
Nvidia charged $649 because they thought they could.
They'd do what they always do and have a much lower price and tons of rebates.
It probably depends on a lot of factors.xemumanic said:Just like I said earlier, I expect to see about a $100 price drop across this whole line once the 300 series comes out.
Yes, I expect the X2 to be $549 or higher.xemumanic said:Also, ATI is holding back their x2 series, we've seen nothing about them yet. Those are the high end cards, especially a 5870x2. I expect to see that at $499 minimum.

Yes, 295 is THE current top dog. I wouldnt compare 5870 to any non-existant products. If thats the case (which I'm sure Nvidia wants) then why not throw LRB into the mix? :lolxemumanic said:Neither is true.............compared to the 295? If so, then yeah.
If not, there's no basis for such a statement yet.
I've read the opposite that this is a big redesign like R520 -> R600 where as RV770's foundation was R600.xemumanic said:Anyway, for lack of a better word (PLEASE don't kill me, my use of vocabulary is in the gutter ATM), I read that this new ATI card is a 'rehash' of their previous generation?
Meaning, this isn't a 100% new design like last gen?
Well it's similar, but they crammed twice the amount of shader on it. 600 -> 1200.xemumanic said:Neither is true.............compared to the 295? If so, then yeah.

I consider this impressive enough for 5850, but apparently AMD don't.
cyberheater said:Well, the green lines represent the normalized performance rating of a nVidia GTX 285. The red lines represent the performance percentage increase of the ATI 5850.
I'm guessing the dotted red line is the average performance improvement.
I'm not sure what you're saying. My point was that the results are good enough already without using misleading charts to represent them.cyberheater said:I take it AMD aren't happy with the tests. How did you find that out?
Yeah, these benchmarks are good...not sure why they'd be ashamed of them. The GTX285 is a $350 card, the 5850 is going to launch at less than $300 isn't it?Durante said:I'm not sure what you're saying. Well the benchmarks aren't good because they don't tell us anything. They probably in reality look better in a chart like this then with actual figures.Cheeto said:Yeah, these benchmarks are good...not sure why they'd be ashamed of them. You can conclude that it has an average 30% performance increase over the GTX285.spazzfish said:Well the benchmarks aren't good because they don't tell us anything. They probably in reality look better in a chart like this then with actual figures.
For example with cod 4 there is nearly a 20% increase in performance shown by that graph which looks great, but if the nvidia card is only running the game at 40 fps then the 20% increase is moot.
Obviously i'm pulling figures out my arse for sake of example, but until we see actual numbers showing what the percentages represent, then we can't conclude too much yet.
