Let's be real: they are probably friends and Sakurai visited him. That's it.

*cries*
Platinum actually strikes me as an ideal candidate for a Nintendo collaboration: Independent and experienced veterans with similar basic design philosophies, but still bring something to the table Nintendo lacks. And their talent is indirectly proportional to their success, so they need contracts. Nintendo works with Treasure and Sandlot, so why not Platinum? But if such a deal were to happen, I wouldn't expect Platinum to work on a Nintendo IP. Nintendo is looking for outside studios that do something they can't do themselves, and they're perfectly capable of doing Starfox or F-Zero on their own. Unless it's a long dormant IP reboot like Uprising.

A Platinum developed F-Zero would be godly. GX was eccentric and hardcore, two of the very things Platinum specialises in

It was also a racing game. Remeber all those racing games from platinum? Or all the f-zeros from sakurai? Yeah, those were the days!

Remember that awful motorcycle section in Bayonetta? Yeah I tried to forget that too.
I definitely don't want to see Platinum tackling racing games.

Sacrilege against Bayonetta and Hang-On.

If we ever make a racing game, I'm making sure the slowest driver is named Daniel. :)

That section was definitely the most terrible in the entire game, and one of my worst experiences this generation, but it's not indicative of what Platinum Games could do if they made a racing game. In fact, that level just needs a few adjustments to go from terrible to enjoyable.

Maturity, bitches.
Remember Sakurai is freelance now. He can easily be hired by Platinum to produce a 360 title published by Activision.

When making Uprising, Sakurai mentioned Star Fox as one of the possible IPs he considered. Miyamoto wants to bring Star Fox back into the spotlight, and Kamiya wants to make a Star Fox game. I think I just confirmed a Platinum developed Star Fox is coming courtesy Kamiya with some collaboration with Sakurai.

Going reserve my copy right now, brb.

Iirc Sakurai also likes to hang around at Grasshopper parties with Suda and whatnot.
This probably has nothing to do with game development....

I don't think it's so outrageous. Amusement Vision didn't exactly have a racing portfolio before they took on the series. I just think that Platinum Games have a certain flavour and eccentricity to them that I think fit's well with the F-Zero universe. Retro studios didn't have any experience with 2D platformers but Donkey Kong Country Returns turned out brilliantly.

I like seeing developers take on something a bit different. Platinum are extremely talented and I'm sure they would be just of capable of making a great F-Zero as AV were. Not everything they make has to be a shooter.

At this time and a pic focusing on the logo, that's not innocent.
But that Sakurai is also friend with everyone, is he just playing... the pic on the studio name still seems the important fact.

They did develop Daytona USA 2001 on the dreamcast and Super Monkey Ball on the GC before doing F-Zero, both which were critically acclaimed.

No, Sakurai's been given Sora, a company co-founded by Nintendo. A man with a company is hardly what I'd call freelance.

I thought Project Sora was the company that Nintendo has given him and Sora Ltd was basically Sakurai and a receptionist. I mean he can't make a game for another system with the Project Sora team, but I don't think they can stop him from being a consultant at another company.

He has a 28% stake in Project Sora, it is co-owned by him (sora ltd) and nintendo.

I don't see why he would go work as a consultant at another company when he is president of his own company.

Anybody an idea how many people work at project sora now? They started with 30 afaik, but that was in 2009. I can imagine they have grown a bit since then while working on KI:U? Especially since they have a recruitment page on their website, with the latest hiring mentioning starting in october 2011.

I don't usually do this, but irrational exuberance is fun so let's go crazy with this.

Kamiya, a man whose resume includes: Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and Bayonetta is working on Star Fox. Retro Studios is working on something awesome. EAD Tokyo is working on a new 3D Mario. And the brunt of EAD Kyoto is working on Miyamoto's new IP and Pikmin 3. How does that sound Nintendo fans?

A study as small as sora can not make a game like Smash themselves. They need more people working on the project. If I remember well a lot of GameArts developers worked in the Wii Smash Bros Game beacuse Miyamoto recommended that studio.

The most likely thing is that Sora, people from Platinum Games and Nintendo are working on the new Smash Bros Wii U/3DS game.

As long as Retro ISN'T working on Star Fox, this sounds amazing.
