What is happening here
I guess they seriously need to rethink their business model. I only hear of that site when they have financial troubles and when trying to see what's even on the site, everything is blocked by their paywall. Doesn't help either that their name starts with S and ends with TD (S_TD).
I'd visit their page if they had some cat movies:
Your Wrong. the majority of the site is not behind a paywall. actually there is such thing as a basic account and you have access to everything except the premium content.

GAF is Gaming Age Forums.People post what does SITFD have to do with gaming. what does NeoGAF have to do with gaming its just some made up name that could be trade marked. NeoGAF doesn't scream gaming. NeoGAF says Believe underneath Believe in what? There is no NeoGaf in the dictionary unless you count the urban dictionary
SIFTED or SIFT. Shane Didn't want to put Gaming in the title. just like Easy Allies Brendon Jones didn't want to have gaming in the title. because they want to talk about more then just games. Brendon Jones was on GameFace as a Special Guest when Usual host Matt was on holidays. Both Brendon and Shane are from GameTrailers.com
Blu-ray is just a made up word so they could trade mark it. There are many people who don't know that it means blue ray. which is a description of the type of laser it uses.

I think it's just as much a bad site idea for modern times as most people who are aware of him just don't like Shane Satterfield. Pretty much made GT 100% a better place after he left, and was INSUFFERABLE on The Bonus round. I just don't think people liked him.
Your Wrong.
Then it's pretty bad design. Because on whatever I click, I am prompted to register. Why not just make it accessible without a basic account. Without your comment, I wouldn't even have known about that.
GAF is Gaming Age Forums.
You don't have to register to read it.You had to register for neogaf. I've been a member of NeoGAF for years and I still cannot even create my own thread. talk about a stupid business decision
Basic Membership used to be 10 dollars a year and premium was 50 dollars a year. it was to keep out the riffraff. Keep out kids and make the community civilized. There is no SPAM, there is never any fighting. its a More mature Audience.

It works off of ad impressions. It does not matter who created a thread, or how old the thread in question is. They just attempt to deliver something you are more likely to click on, and if you view gaming items a lot on Amazon, it works reasonably well. You had to register for neogaf. heres the thing: I didnt. you can browse neogaf without registering. you only register to post.
I'd assume because of access to sources etc. Seems like they do Podcasts with guests? But yea nowadays, there's really no reason, can all be done via telecommunications.
I'd never heard of Sifted before. I'll bookmark it and check it out. But I don't really subscribe to things, I'm fine helping out through a websites use of affiliate marketing or advertisements. But I really don't do paid subscriptions.
I was lurking on NeoGAF for years and years before I finally decided to register.
Yeah the only good content on Siftd is Pachter Factor and I just watch that on Youtube for free (I did follow him on Twitter as requested). Where is the rest of this content? It's not like they're gonna be the next EZA or Noclip, and if the content they are putting out is all locked behind a paywall then why should I even care? Not even sure if it was a good idea, the tech seemed solid but the execution was poor. Good luck to them but I just see no value in their original content and or paying for their aggregation services.
You can lurk on gaf and view threads without a forum account tho so this argument doesn't really work? You had to register for neogaf. I've been a member of NeoGAF for years and I still cannot even create my own thread. talk about a stupid business decision

Los Angeles must be one of the worst places in the world to run a business like that, especially since it could be run somewhere else at a fraction of the cost and with no real detriment to the product. It seems such a waste of money for so much subscriber investment to endlessly funnel into rental costs like that.
The aggregation is free. We have other content besides Pach.
Most people aren't desperate to pay big bucks (relatively speaking) for a content aggregator.
I am a busy adult professional without the time or inclination to read gaming forums. However, it is still imperative that I receive a daily briefing on every minute development in the Bubsy the Bobcat saga. If I could also get my political news from the Bubsy the Bobcat reporter that would be ideal.
While joms5's tone may have been harsh, I do think there were constructive points in there. I also don't think he made the post out of malice, but was rather trying to offer what he believes to be harsh truths. On the whole, I think it was an honest and not unintelligent post. Boasting that such posts wouldn't appear on your site speaks to an insularity that I'm not sure is entirely helpful.I do take umbrage with the person who attacked my verbiage in the article, though. SIFTD is a family. I know you hear that all the time, but it's true. It's an adult community where people respect each other and have civil conversations about games. A post like the one I'm speaking of would never appear on the site. People just don't act that way. I think the analogy "don't s*** in your own backyard" definitely applies because they're invested in something they pay for. So when I write things like "our cause" it's not BS. We're all in it together because we all believe in it. The more successful the site is the more content its users get for the money they pay. If you don't believe me, look at the comments in the article.
What I got from your posts here and on your site is that the idea and point of the site, the innovative and useful thing that is supposed to drive people to visit it, is the aggregation. Yet, that's free, and people are supposed to support the "cause" by subscribing to the original content that hasn't anything to do with the aggregation and that isn't previewed anywhere. Dunno if I got something wrong, but if I'm right I think I see a flaw in this plan.Again, the content curation is free. You don't have to pay anything to use the site. You just pay for the original content.
Hey everyone! Appreciate the feedback and the kind words. Even the harsh kind because it shows me what others are thinking or what hurdles they've encountered in using the site.
I agree that we have not done a great job of marketing. Marketing costs money, and we don't have a lot of it. We have to be very smart and strategic. ... I agree that our Twitch page is barren compared to others and that's something we should work on, but we don't stream a ton and the market we're targeting doesn't watch a ton of streams, anyway. They don't have the time. Ultimately, the proof is in the pudding, though. We have to make changes and I'm taking all your feedback to heart.
So again, thank you for all the constructive feedback. It means a lot. We're having a summit on Monday night to allow folks to offer input and help us map the path forward. Would love to see all of you on the stream because GAF is full of smart folks who know and love the industry. Everyone here can be a huge help. It kicks off at 7PM Pacific on our Twitch channel. Hope to see you all there and much love.
It would be worth it if you cared about their personalities and their opinions... But you can't appreciate them unless you pay, so it's a catch-22.It's a shame because I can appreciate the huge amount of hard work that goes into SIFTD, but I just don't understand why I'd want it.
I sound like one of those people who the website is meant to appeal to, but why for instance would I use SIFTD, when I can open a Reddit account for free, subscribe to the topics I'm interested in and let that filter everything out for me instead? Why would I pay?
Edit: okay, so after a bit more reading, the content aggregation is free I believe? But why would I choose it over all the other free options? And the payment is for original content. Again though, why would I pay? There's more good quality content than I could ever hope to consume, available for free. What makes this worth paying for?
I just don't get it.
i'm being a cunt and i apologise. but someone needs to snap you out of this fucking dream/nightmare.

A lot of people (our subscribers included) are suggesting dropping our location, but we want to do more than just talking head stuff and we need a studio to shoot those things. There's also at least some value in production values. Obviously, if it comes to it, the studio will be the first thing to go.
The site wasn't necessarily created for young people with tons of disposable time. It's a service for adults who are incredibly busy and don't have time anymore to visit 15 sites a day or search through dozens of pages on message boards or social media for stuff they actually care about.
The aggregation is free. We have other content besides Pach.
not everyone is cut out to run a business. just like not everyone is cut out to create content. so focus on what youre good at. creating content.
lol you totally are.
i'm not gonna quote the whole post so you can maybe edit it when you're sober.
