Hey ShenmueGAF! I LOVE Shenmue, but I'm still a little scared to board the hype about the recent trademark news, we Shenmue fans have burned too many times before.

As much as I'm with you on the hype train in spirit I think that was what got the thread locked. I'm brand new to NeoGAF so I don't know much about its rules but I know most would consider that spamming.

But again, I'm totally with you in the hype department. I can't wait for E3. If we don't get an announcement we'll just see how far past the derailment our inertia takes us.

Oh that was definitely why it ended up getting locked - but we could have at least got a warning or a post explaining why it was locked. I've seen heaps of hype train threads around here not get locked. Ah well.

First class baby! thanks!

I really want to see a Shenmue HD Collection. Recently I was playing Shenmue on my Dreamcast vía VGA with a 1080p adapter on my LCD and I was amazed by the level of detail of some textures and how all the game shine even more with a cristal clear IQ.

Those assets (mostly protagonist models and scenary) resist the pass of time very well. IMO a proper implementarion of the camera at the right stick and we're done.

I think it's only natural that Ryo Hazuki himself has a seat on the hype train. I've been stuck in a cave for so long it'll be nice to get out.

I will have to set aside two pairs of underwear for possible Shenmue announcements, I can't get to excited I have to keep myself in check.

You are definitely not thev real Hazuki. I know because why would I flaunt around my family name ?

On topic: exciting tweets!

Sadly, I'm really not expecting any announcement at all regarding Shenmue. I don't think there will be any mention of it at all at E3 other than for jokes.

At an absolute best, we may (if we are incredibly ASTOUNDINGLY lucky) hear about an HD collection putting both Shenmue 1 & 2 together into one new release. They would only do this to gauge interest in possibly MAYBE bringing the franchise back for a new installment. But realistically that is all a pipe dream most likely. :(

Still, I hope that train rolls forever, building momentum until it's impossible to ignore!!!!!

I would like 1 ticket for the hype train please. Looking forward for Shenmue 1 + 2 HD remakes for PS4 as well as Shenmue 3 for PS4 as well.

Disappointment is not an option.

if shenmue 3 is coming, i know it'll be a somewhat compromised experience by cutting out most of the story to fit into a single game, but i really hope they keep to yu suzuki's comments on the relationship with shenhua being like... a big personality test. that always sounded pretty cool and explained all the sudden dialogue choice paths on disk 4 of shenmue 2.

I doubt they will release "shenmue 3" which will conclude the series. They have to start from the beginning and it can't be a meaningful game if its packaged in to 1 title, there is simply to much plot to pack. If shenmue is revived, it will start with the first game w/updated graphics and some "modernization". They will cut things like the WuDu book cleaning/forklift job and add more action side-quests such as the landsharks from Wan Zai(sp? its beeen so fucking long).

I'm still astounded they haven't re-done the game yet. It would cost maybe 30 million to be done at the same level of quality as the original and the mystery around the franchise would essentially act as marketing most games would never dream of getting. It would have to sell maybe a million copies to break even which isn't that hard for any AAA game.

i... don't know if a reboot is really going to be on the cards. if a new shenmue game is going to happen they're going to have one shot at it, and that one shot is going to be shenmue 3.

as much as i love the game, and as how misrepresented it is as being a commercial "failure", the series has too much baggage to start again. so much negative press, mostly false, towards how much shenmue cost, or how it sold, has become ingrained as fact in the minds of gamers, game "journalists", and probably developers/publishers to.

and you know what? if a new shenmue game gets made, it's getting made for shenmue fans. people new to the series can still pick it up, but the game won't be trying to introduce new players to the world, it'll be closing off a story 15 years (or more, by the time it comes out) in the making. an updated release of the first two games would be nice as a refresher, but i can't see them starting shenmue from scratch.

A HD remake of 1&2 would put the series firmly in its coffin and we would never see 3 as a result, unless they are willing to remake the game from scratch and even then I am not sure it would interest a lot of people, It would probably have similar sales/interest to Yakuza maybe a bit more due to the buzz of Shenmue fans.

Marketing could have a big impact on getting it into the mainstream market but who can afford that besides MS.

Thank you for this thread!

Getting Shenmue for Christmas of 2000 was as amazing a gaming experience I've ever had. Many, many hours were spent playing Space Harrier and Hang-On in the arcade to try to get atop the rankings on the Shenmue Passport. ><

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
I don't really care which console gets Shenmue 3 exclusives if it does happen, what I care about is having the S1&2 HD versions first. I spent a lot of time building up skills for Ryu with all the training, collecting toys and shit, I'd really like to carry them over into a third and have no problem doing that all again.

Another issue I am concerned about is having too many Chefs spoiling the broth. It would be awesome to have Yu and a crew of his choosing to work their magic.

It would be hard to guess which console would get the game though. We know Cerny met with Suzuki-san and we also know that MS has acknowledged that Shenmue 3 is one of the most requested reboots of recent times.

I never finished Shenmue but I did finish Shenmue 2. I want a 3rd one or at least a fricking Xbox One port for the first two.

Another E3, another chance for some publisher to make me a fan for life with a single announcement. My tears of joy are ready to be shed...

Does Microsoft still has the rights over the Shenmue 2 distribution in NA?

Guys, I love you, but you're only setting yourselves up for disappointment. We've been through this so many times. Stop hurting yourselves. I love my fellow Shenmue fans. We are the greatest fan community for a game - ever. Only Mother fans come close. But I'm tired of seeing fellow 'Mue fan tears. The tears have to stop!!!
There hasn't been this level of hype and enthusiasm for Shenmue at any point in the last 8 years or so. All the chatter is helping create new fans, and get people interested in the series. The relentless enthusiasm fans have is being thrown right in Sony and MS's face on social media constantly. In a world where Netflix brings back Arrested Development, and Veronica Mars gets kickstarted, a re-birth for Shenmue is entirely probable.

We have to...

Phil Spencer (a.k.a. @XboxP3, he is the Corporate Vice President at Microsoft Game Studios) will get a notification about your Shenmue request!

F.A.Q.:

Q: Why this is happening?

A: Because Phil Spencer said that he is open to hear ideas about original Xbox games to bring back, as can been seen here: https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/471467263271657473

Q: Didn't Phil said they're not going to make it?

A: Phil also said Gears of War ran its course and then bought the IP. Decisions like that are not monolithic in nature. And, with the right pressure, he may change his mind about Shenmue, too!

Q: I have my doubts? Is this going to work?

A: Nobody in this world is able to know. However, when you TRY, big things could happen! For example, think back what attention and positive signs we managed to achieve so far with SONY:
