I'm fine with this, as long as they improve on it too. I'd like to see
- Less Shrines and more proper Dungeons.
- Make Towers more interesting or just have less of them. (like Horizon)
- Weapon durability is fine but it would be nice if they didn't break quite so fast.
- Fully commit to the voice acting (not just a few select scenes) and a deeper story.
- Bring back more classic Zelda items / weapons like the Hookshot ect.
Nice. The towers could be like vertical dungeons, with their own puzzles and enemies. Climbing them is not very exciting.
Bring back Loftwings. They'd be so much more useful than horses in BotW, can land on many more terrain types and be used as jump-off points for the para glider.
Just use weather effects and enemies to lock off those areas where you don't want the player to go (yet).
I'm afraid people wanting the more linear structure of the previous two decades of Zeldas are going to be disappointed for a while.
I don't get the towers being boring complaints.
The tower in hyrule fieldif done early has you avoiding many guardians.
And a tower in the eastis in a large body of water with a shit ton of lizalfos and electric wizards.
These are two close to the plateau.

I really wonder if they will make a Majoras Mask type companion for BOTW. I want a darker, crazier adventure somewhere other than Hyrule.
Only complaint from BotW are the dungeons could be bigger and more complex. Love that about Twilight princess.
The next decade huh?
So, like, both of them?
.So, 1 more game then?
I guess that "Of the Wild" could become a separate Zelda series. Using the same engine they could even produce a sequel/prequel/whatever in less than 3 years. And at the same time, a classic Zelda experience could exist in 3D or 2D.
BotW is the GOAT though. As a lover of ALttP (the one that started the "Zelda structure" before OoT), I don't want to go back.
BotW being the template to follow would be a best case scenario, but on he has to wonder how realistic that is considering the titanic amount of effort that goes into making a game like it. The good news is that they cited physics engine issues as the reasons for the delays, and since that would obviously not need to be touched, further games would take less time and effort to make.
I was thinking about this same thing yesterday, how it would be awesome if they released a Majora's Mask to this Ocarina of Time: a quirky, different Zelda game built on the solid foundation of BotW.
Also for the love of all that's good, bring back Darknuts.
I really hope not. I'd like to hope we'll see all the traditional elements that were removed brought back in future 3D Zeldas.
Yeah. I never played any Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age game ( played fallout 3and new Vegas, which i really liked a lot) and was looking forward to the switch Skyrim port but now I'm afraid it will feel very restrictive and frustrating.it will be the template for all open world games to come. interact with the world and let the world interact with you, instead of just being a pretty background.
Same here
BOTW feels like less of a Zelda game than Skyward Sword did to me, and that game already strayed too far from traditional Zelda elements IMO.
People are really exaggerating the effort and time that went into Breath of the Wild. A development time of 4 years for an open-world game is completely standard in today's landscape if not even a little faster than normal.

'modern' AAA open world games aren't nintendo's wheelhouse though. going off of skyward sword seems like they were accustomed to developing in a bubble for awhile
not saying BotW was a grueling herculean task or anything but it was probably quite an adjustment.

This thread highlights that what the Switch means hasn't really clicked for some folks. Nintendo is no longer divided in terms of development resources (and publishing resources). There have been 5 Zelda games since Twilight Princess prior to BotW.
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks
Skyward Sword
A Link Between Worlds
Tri Force Heroes
However you feel about any, or all, of those games aside. Nintendo's output is now being focused. Sure, they will do more with the BotW engine but also when they start firing on all cylinders for Switch? That 16M units being manufactured starts to make sense.
3. Disagree, end game weapons don't break fast at all
4. No thanks please god NO
5. Let go of the hookshot embrace climbing+glider!
botw ability spoilerAlso, I love the glider but the Hookshot would still be great to have as well. I'm sure it could be put to good use for puzzles and certain situations.
To me this was the most zelda game since the original
OoT tainted the series to me
after the oracle games it took until between worlds to get the right idea, WW had potential but it being rushed ruined that potential
botw ability spoiler
The wind power broke the hell out of puzzles hookshot would be even worse unless they went back to closed rooms
That's doesnt nesseserally mean we will have the same output on the Switch. Games will take longer to make due to a more powerful system.
You can't combine both handheld and console output and say to expect that amount of games on Switch. You can't pump out games on Switch with lower graphics like you did on 3DS.
True, also Nintendo is getting more into DLC tying people up in different ways. But if you think we are looking strictly at console output going forward from the past two decades you haven't been paying attention.
I don't get this at all. BOTW is nothing like the original. If anything OoT is more like the original but in 3D.
Never felt "broken" to me. And the hookshot would really be welcome in BOTW with all this climbing you have to do.
I didn't say that. Somewhere just above console output. But definitely not Wii U + 3DS output or Wii + DS output
How many Breath of the Wild topics can this board handle?
