Thank you for this! So it seems PS4 has outperformed everything except (possibly) Wii.

Any chance we could get handheld comparisons? Specifically GBA, DS, PSP & 3DS?

If you look at the current LTD of historical systems, it can be a bit deceptive.

For example, the GBA was ridiculously popular...the reason it's not at DS level is because Nintendo abandoned it so quickly due to the PSP.

Other systems that ended up selling a massive amount of units (like the PS1) had a very slow launch, but continued to maintain sales momentum for many years.

Keep in mind that PS4 is a $399 console. GBA launched in North America at $99, DS launched at $149, PSP launched at $249, and 3DS launched at $249 but dropped down to $169 quickly.

So, for a home console, the the PS4 is doing EXCEPTIONALLY well for its first 9 months. Let's see how well Sony will maintain its momentum in the years to come.

But like I said, Respawn did make a mistake. They wanted to make the next CoD, something that's probably impossible (and they didn't even get close). Have they even outsold KZSF?

So yes, shackling TR to X1 means SE is practically undoing the good job they did reviving it. Am I concerned for TR's fate? Well, I enjoyed the first one so it's sad to see, but no, I'm not really all too "concerned"

You are conveniently attaching your own wildly high sales goal to Titanfall. The idea of a brand new IP reaching COD sales in it's first iteration is rather humorous. Did Respawn ever discuss such a goal? KZSF is the 4th game in a successful franchise. Again, an unfair comparison point.

Titanfall certainly was held back because of the $500 price point at launch, but ultimately it's been a successful game, and I'm sure the exclusivity money really helped put the studio on a successful path. No doubt the sequel will be huge, and that's partly because of how much name recognition it got from it's exclusivity deal, which promoted the hell out of it. I think Respawn would do the exact same thing again if given the choice.

People around here love to talk about how much people resent these exclusivity deals. I'll let you in on a little secret, outside of forums like this people have no fucking clue what goes on with this stuff. They just know they can buy game "x" on this console. Square made this deal for TR because it promised them a large sum of money up front, probably enough to guarantee Crystal Dynamics isn't in danger of going out of business. That's a good thing IMO, and in an age when big studios are frequently in trouble, I have no problem with it.

Congrats, but I think that 2015 PS4 deserves those sales more than 2013/2014 ps4

Almost an early access console

holding a 2:1 advantage after one year is doable. maybe even after 18 months. But to do so over the course of the entire generation when the other console is building the kind of momentum the XB1 has these past few months? It's not sustainable.

What momentum? Seriously. Even getting on par with the price did shit for the Xbox One. They couldn't even take the NPD lead in a month where they dropped price? If that's momentum, I'm not sure what Sony's having now.

The only place where you can play Titanfall, COD, and Kinect Sports Rivals. You can't say that about any other platform. That's why this game, like the Xbox All in One Entertainment System before it, is literally flying off the shelves and into the hearts and minds of gamers.

Everything's coming up Xbox...

*thread bookmarked for future crow-serving purposes, on the level of the GOTG one*
Okay I'll make sure to get a crate of crow broth from BJ's to go along with this bag of crow meat for your crow dinner then.

PS1 Shipments:

3 months, 29 days (one territory) - March 31st, 1995 - 0.85 million
9 months, 28 days - September 30th, 1995 - 1.77 million
1 year, 3 months, 29 days - March 31st, 1996 - 4.26 million

I'd love to have Saturn numbers (Japan in particular) to compare these to.

A few more amazing predictions from the linked thread. Honestly guys, I think we found the forum's resident psychic.

more predictions:

-WiiU will rebound to eventually surpass or at least come very close to gamecube lifetime numbers

-PS4 will have similar DRM to XB1.

-XB1 will bow to pressure and require games to "check in" to their servers about once a month (instead of every 24hrs) sort of like steam does. PS4 will follow suit.

-After strong initial backlash against XB1/PS4 DRM, most will forget about it like DLC this gen because most gamers won't be willing to abandon "next-gen" and go PC only

-PS4 will have gold/silver plans with online multiplayer falling under the gold charged plan. The gold plan will include free games and other features like PSN+ so not so bad

-PS4 will come out with their own "surface" app (not vita). Surface will be pretty big and innovative

-TV will eventually be transmitted almost entirely over the internet (iptv) and MS is positioning XB1 to be a trojan-horse provider, worldwide. No extra equipment required. May not explode, but I see it happening in a few years and could be a big selling point.

OK, I'm actally pretty sure open_mouth_ posts are not serious.

I'm here to clear up the misconceptions people have about esram. When someone asks, "so which console has the faster memory?" You have to immediately say Xbox one with its esram and it's not even up for debate. That's the single fastest piece of tech in either console. It's faster than anything in amazon's console as well. The truth is People like to downplay it because it's exclusive to Xbox one. The true developers like carmak know that when you need to do something fast in a game like shaders and bump maps, esram is the bees knees. This is why crytek chose to only bring Ryse to Xbox one and why call of duty was able to sustain a silky smooth. Why jump through unnecessary hoops?

The Cloud is a way to further future proof the console even though esram should be more than enough once Microsoft grants developers the access to code to the metal. It's the same reason people get insurance on their cars, you know? In case it's needed one day and not because the car won't work without it. We got a taste of how great cloud gaming can be on the pc with the launches of sim city and diablo 3. That's what Microsoft wants to bring to the comfy couches around the world and people hate them for it I don't know why. So imagine in five years when everyone wants the newest consoles and then Microsoft says bam you don't need one because every city now has google fiber one and pair it with Xbox one (hint hint) and you get a whole new console called xbox one cloud that will last you another five or so years. Nintendo just realized this so their next console will be a copy of Xbox cloud tech. It's too late for Sony to implement it haha.

There is no way anyone seriously believes those bolded points.

PS4 still high on momentum on the eve of the launch of the best preordered new franchise ever.

If it sells another 3 million during aug, sept and okt, which is highly likely and 5-6 million during the holidays PS4 is poised to reach 18 million before the new year and thus almost 1/5th of the Wii's/PS1 lifetime. Awesome, yea.

Whose to say PS4 sales won't be even crazier for 2015? (historically, it should) Especially with all the big titles coming next year. Should keep momentum strong.

They're similar enough.
Brand new IP versus well-established IP? I'll let this guy inform you how absurd that "similarity" is:

The idea of a brand new IP reaching COD sales in it's first iteration is rather humorous. Did Respawn ever discuss such a goal? KZSF is the 4th game in a successful franchise. Again, an unfair comparison point.

That guy knows what's up.

And this is at 399 with lack of really big exclusives to the current gen. PS4 is going to dominate this generation pretty thoroughly. I have to say congratulations. They seem to be listening to a lot of feedback and really trying with the variety of stuff they have lined up.

If I had to guess I would say the 2:1 ratio sticks. The Xbone is done in Europe. It would be even higher if the PS4 wasn't a complete failure in Japan.

Man open_mouth's posts in this thread are hilarious.

Someone still is trying to say that the territories XBO hasn't launched in can even erase a fraction of the gap Sony has. And he thinks he's going to serve us crow, when he has such a fundamental misunderstanding of the actual world sales distribution? lol

Yet another individual whose system preferences is clouding rational thought :p

Anyway, good shit for Sony. I'll be honest, I never expected their momentum to last this long. It's a good show

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Everything's coming up Xbox...

The thing that shocks me more is that it sounds like something you'd find in a PR. Just put some TM on game titles and adjust the language a little...that's a PR. Even the "All-in-One Entertainment System" line is there :lol

don't think this is possible, won't they have to manufacture nearly 1.5M units per month? crazy numbers

I lost it when I read open_mouth_ saying: "Surface will be pretty big and innovative."

...of course I didn't lose $1.8Billion and counting like MS did on Surface, so there's that.

I was going to perhaps get the Xbox One, but if the PS4 is really outselling it by this much, maybe I will get one of those instead.
