Microsoft is launching the XB1 in China and over a dozen new key markets soon. The 2:1 ratio will vanish relatively quickly.

Like VR?
Destiny,GTA5 ,New COD , Black Friday & Christmas are coming PS4 will be close to 17 million by the end of the year.
I feel kind of bad for Crystal Dynamics now. They've been sold up the river. I hope the series isn't killed by MS's desperation.
Only 5 million from today to holidays? Now way... it will sell that in November + December alone.15 million by New Year's Eve. Based PS4
I really don't understand what this GIF means. Someone please explain it to me? It's Lara Croft (?) recording a campfire?
Geez, I CANNOT wait to see TR be below #5 (or maybe lower depending on the releases that month) on the NPD charts its launch month. Will be great!!!
You're acting as if PS4 isn't gaining momentum either. Destiny beta, white PS4, Bloodborn, PS Now, Morpheus (personal tipping point for me),...holding a 2:1 advantage after one year is doable. maybe even after 18 months. But to do so over the course of the entire generation when the other console is building the kind of momentum the XB1 has these past few months? It's not sustainable.
Yeah. Look how things worked out for Respawn. Those guys are fucked right now. If only they'd listened to the armchair CEOs here. :/
It means she is left out in the rain, unable to join PlayStation party.

Any chance we could get handheld comparisons? Specifically GBA, DS, PSP & 3DS?
Eh? Ps4 is a beast but that'd be insanity on a ridiculous scale. Doubt it heavily.Only 5 million from today to holidays? Now way... it will sell that in November + December alone.
You can start to guess 18 million or more.
What is wrong with you?
VR seems something that tech-focused people find cool, but if people were against wearing simple glasses for 3D, I'm skeptical it's going to take off all that much. I think it'll find an active, but smaller community.
Yep. People are underestimating the role of places like Brazil, Middle East and South Africa, and might be overestimating the role of China (some to comical proportions).Ok, analysis about these numbers
USA LTD up to June (NPD)- 3,600,000
Japan LTD up to August 3rd, 2014 (Media Create)- 653,377
Now, theory: PS4 sold another 250,000 units in US in July (given the historical June-to-July transitions and PS4 performance in June, this should be an optimistic scenario), so US LTD up to July's NPD tracking period (end is on August 2nd, 2014) would be 3,850,000.
This brings the US + Japan most recent total up to 4,503,377
This means that, in the rest of the world, PS4 sold around 5,500,000 since it's 10 millions+ sold to customers. Probably a little more, since the US number is an optimistic estimate. So, ROTW = US x 1.5. From what I remember, Europe has certainly been a better market for Sony than US, but not that better, and not with a console doing well like PS4. So, the only reasonable explanation is that all the countries outside US, mainland Europe and Europe itself are giving a good contribution to the console's numbers, since it's impossible that Europe alone contributed for 5,500,000 units.
EDIT: Just forgot...congrats, Sony!
Apart from Destiny how is that different than any other year?... GTA V is an up-port. It'll sell well, but don't expect that (over Destiny) to push consoles... Doubtful imo.
Seven million in the next four months? Ehh, I don't know.

For reference, as of September 20, 2007, Wii sold 13.17M globally. So it's more or less tracking near Wii.
Are you sure? Canada does not match sales ratios of the US. Everyone I know has a PS4 and only one person has an Xbox One. This is also the country where Nintendo 64 outsold PlayStation, so yeah.

Well, you know, rest of the world is quite big.I actually don't get it... How exactly did they sell 10m already? Sales in the US are about 1m in the past 4 months, so did the rest of the world buy 2m PS4s in the past 4 months?

She's sad cuz 10 million people(and growing fast) who won't be able to protect her.
My 20M sold by Dec 31 2014 doesn't seem so bold anymore lol.
Congrats to Sony, but I'm honestly kind of disappointed that the PS4 alone is selling so well. It still seems to me that while it's a fairly well thought-out console, it's nothing really special or unique about it. It's just very safe, which makes sense for Sony after the PS3. The 360 brought online interactions forward in a huge way, the Wii introduced a new control mechanism that caught on fire, etc. The PS4 is basically the market embracing "just do the same stuff as always + graphics/power!" I realize that both Nintendo & Microsoft completely fell flat on their face out of the gate, but at least they were trying to push the market forward in some way, even if both approaches were fairly misguided. I honestly feel like their mistakes is probably a huge contributor to PS4 sales. I'm happy that there's a good bit of demand for traditional games in the ROTW though.'

Xbox one badly needs to win this holiday in its strongest markets. $399 sunset overdrive and $499 COD bundles are not enough.
[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Sony sent out an official release regarding the PS4's 10 million milestone. That figure accounts for worldwide sales as of August 10, and represents the "fastest and strongest" growth in PlayStation hardware in Sony's history.
"The responses we have received for the PS4 system's unique gameplay experiences powered by the network, along with its vast game portfolio has been phenomenal, and I am absolutely delighted that PS4 was able to reach this commemorative milestone in less than 9 months," SCE CEO Andrew House said. "We're so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation gamers worldwide, and we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and services in the months ahead."
In terms of software sales, Sony has now sold a combined 30 million copies of retail and downloaded PS4 games through the PlayStation Store as of August 10.

Sure, regional delays tend to muck up older comparisons. I guess if you launch align regions PS2 and Wii still come out ahead? The only reason the ps2 got beaten though is because it's basicly only japan. If you would add the 8 months from the us and eu launch it would beat the ps4.
No you are still crazy
If not wanting consumer and industry damaging business practices rewarded with sales makes me wrong, then so be it.
I am sure if I check your post history, I won't find anything like that when Destiny exclusive content was announced for PS4. Hypocrisy at it's finest.
WII 7 months, 12 days - June 30th, 2007 - 9.27 million
PS4 8 months, 29? days - August 12th?, 2014 - 10.0 million
Wii numbers are shipped to retail. But it sold out pretty much everywhere.
The timeframe is a bit skewed, since there were different launch for different regions and we don't know the exact date when ps4 reached the 10 million mark. I'd say there are on par (at this point). Wii may be slightly ahead - because of Japan. And it was selling for 150 /$ less.
The strategic momentum starting with all the 180's since before Spencer took over and ending with a powerful 2014 holiday season for the Xbox brand.
