Sony Q3 FY16 Results

With the huge success of Civil War and Marvel's magical dust, I expect the new Spider-Man movie to be the highest grossing Spider-Man movie yet. I think it will break $1 billion worldwide.

Now Sony just needs a Bond movie for 2018...

Yeah and if they make Idriss Elba the new Bond as is rumoured, the franchise is gonna bomb hard. It needs an actor people like and who has charisma or great acting ability, like the also rumoured Tom Hardy and a director that will make people excited, apparently Chris Nolan.

Idk if this post is a joke or not. Idris Elba is liked and has great acting ability. Would easily take him over tom hardy.

Did they ever announce that the Bond series was still getting distributed by Sony? Last I remember that deal ran out after Spectre and we didn't know who was going to pick it up.

You seen the newest Star Trek film? Elba is shocking in that as a villain.

No, Hardy would be far more popular as Bond even though I think he's overrated. Elba is also too old for more than a couple movies.

Both are terrible choices for Bond. Although so was Daniel Craig, really.

However, if I'm honest, I'm just hoping whoever they cast is part of a bigger vision for what a Bond movie should be beyond just chasing whatever is the in thing for movies these days. Ever since at least Die Another Day, they've felt like a 'me too' franchise, occasionally good, often big money makers, but disjointed and directionless.

Personally, I'd go either full retro, 60's Cold War era spy, equal parts heartless bastard and suave gentleman, or properly modern reinvention from the ground up, keep the name 'Bond', and the MI6 agent aspect, but go wild and original with everything else.

Gillian Anderson as Jane Bond would be my casting choice for the later, while I'm at it.

The Daniel Craig "Bond" was a good reset. Casino Royale was a great film especially the card game was well done. Quantum was a bit too political. Between Mr. Metal Nails and the no sock penny loafer wearing short ass main villain it was a long and drawn out revenge movie that barely went poof at the end.

Opinions and all that but the only truely good Brosnan Bond was Goldeneye, after that they just got increasingly stupid and boring. None come close to Casino Royale or Skyfall.

Also, they're probably not going to be able to get a woman as Bond after Ghostbusyers flopped so completely. I like your idea of a 60's era Bond though. They went the violent, ruthless angle with Craig, they can't go back to the parody of Brosnan, so maybe a different era is the only viable way forward.

Bond at minimum needs to be British (I'll allow an Irish Citizen due to how awesome Brosnan was; his depiction of Bond not the films).

So presumably you'd be ok with the next 007 being an OAP? Or how about a teenager?

Like saying the only criteria for the next Superman is he should have dark hair.

Damn you, you know exactly what I meant lol. Good British actor of appropriate age (male or female), right director, and an excellent script.
