Why would they stream this? Unbelievable.
Maybe they're trying to pull a KZ2.
Why would they stream this? Unbelievable.
Whenever I watch these early gameplay videos I'm trying to get a sense of what I'll be doing - as the player - and the kind of choices I'll make, either from moment to moment or as part of a longer term strategy.
In this video, with me as the player, I watch a cut-scene which then puts me into a firefight on street level. Cover to the left with allied AI using it, cover to the right with allied AI, and cover forward in the street with another allied AI using it. I guess I'd use the big ole empty cover in the middle for this firefight then.
Now, I'm behind cover, what are my choices? There doesn't seem to be any real need to advance as the enemies are all at height, and no reason to look for alternative cover spots for angles or defensive moves since nothing the enemy is doing looks to affect me here. So my choices are really in which order to take the enemy positions down in.
Once that's done the game literally asks you to fire your special weapon attack into the building's second floor so you can see a canned explosion and advance the checkpoint forward.
Then policeman guy gets downed and you're asked to attend to him. You get to move up and hit triangle, at which point you're now stuck on rails while a line of enemies will walk on to a rooftop in the open and fire on you at point blank range with their pistols. The choice here is the same, to prioritize who to shoot, only now you've got no cover to work with.
Once you take down those enemies in whatever order since they're all the same, you get another cut-scene and the story moves forward.
So, as a showcase of visuals, this video is fine. As a showcase for gameplay, nothing that's come out for this game looks engaging in the slightest. No interesting choices to be made whatsoever.
If there's a fun game in there, I'd love to see it at some point.
They used to be better. Last couple of years, games aren't that great.

And it wasn't like that everywhere.

PC fans are generally the most annoying fans out of all 4 platforms, even handhelds and mobile if we take them into account. You can't have a topic anywhere in real life or on the web without them pulling out their metaphorical cock to tell everyone how a game on their 2K rig looks better and 30fps is terrible on everything. Their need for self-assurance is annoying, embarrassing and hilarious all in one. Add Game of Thrones book readers, and you pretty much have the most annoying fanbases on the internet.Maybe, I think Xbox and PC fans really like to follow Sony Games because lacking on their side.
If it weren't for the unique setting, I'd almost think this is a parody.
It's...almost like it's designed to incorporate everything I dislike about 'AAA blockbusters' with surgical precision:
-Third-person cover based shooting that doesn't appear to offer a single remotely creative aspect.
-An obsession with emulating a 'cinematic' presentation, despite having what looks to be, at best, a superficial appreciation for that medium. Drab dialogue, dodgy acting, and a scope aspect ratio just 'cause.
Edit: - Oh, and blatant scripted-as-fuck set-pieces.
We gave the game the benefit of the doubt when it was first shown. After all, that gave us, at most, fifteen seconds of actual gameplay. Here, we get a whole three minutes, and not a single compelling moment throughout the whole thing.
Surely we'd get something, anything that sets the game apart from others of its ilk? I find it hard to believe the marketers for this game think it wise to give the game a public showing twice without showing some unique feature to set it apart from the crowd, assuming such a thing exists.
Either they're sitting on some great gameplay features to blow us away with at E3, or this game is as creatively bankrupt as all the media released to-date paints it.
Why would they stream this? Unbelievable.
What?
Oh wow so this is what they're actually showcasing to journos (and I imagine submitting as part of E3 judging or whatever)?
Agreed. Releasing an HQ version of this isn't going to address much of the criticism, which mostly has nothing to do with the visuals. Whatever we get on Tuesday is going to be more interesting to watch/read.
I don't think we need a better clip, nobody's denying the game is gorgeous. What we need is a clear representation of what this game is about. If there's more to it than shooting werewolves, Sony has to show it or the "it's a basic TPS/Gears clone" claims will remain until release date.
Holy shit what a post. Well done sir.Whenever I watch these early gameplay videos I'm trying to get a sense of what I'll be doing - as the player - and the kind of choices I'll make, either from moment to moment or as part of a longer term strategy.

Nope, whenever they make a R&C on PS4 they will still be awful.
I don't want to derail the thread with Insomniac talk.

I don't know Chamber, I feel like type of discussion should matter. May be RAD should not be happy with people just talking about their game, but worry about what is being discussed.
*looks at trailer* Yup. That's definitely a trailer. Nothing especially new to see here--my hype level is about the same (REALLY HIGH) so someone let me know when I can pick this up in 2015.
basically you don't know what you want.I can tell you it's not a cover-based third person shooter.
Shhhhh, don't bring truth here.
Victorian London was all bells and whistles and pink and orange ribbons.
Awesome.I've been on gaf for quite a while, this is not a new thing. I actually enjoy reading the hyperbole, and seeing how others either support or try to tear it apart.
Also, the stream portion is just something new. Sure, streaming quality wasn't fantastic since it's not a perfect technology, but there's plenty of time to release full high quality videos down the road. We can also start focusing on the aspects many gaffers in this thread have asked to know more about, and try to answer those questions and inquiries as best as we can.
So keep with the chatter, I always try to read all of it.
Full press event on this game, embargo ends Tues morning, so we should have better and longer video previews.I know but I would personally like a much higher quality video than the ones we have. Youtube destroys all PS4/XBone/PC footage as this generations biggest leap for me is image quality.
What are we getting on Tuesday, more footage ?.

I can't imagine why Ready at Dawn would team-up with Sony again. I would tell them to piss off for letting us work on PSP spin offs. If it turns out that the top dogs of RaD have been working on a generic Gears Of War clone the whole time I'll be pissed.
It would also make me even more dissapointed about the fact that this is Sony's big fall game. Eventhough The Order nails the core TPS gameplay it is bland, unimaginetive and repetitive to a fault. Not even near worth all the praise. If it turns out that RaD is focusing most of it's resources on this game as an exclusive for this fall it means that Sony is nothing more than desperate to keep up with the competition.
If Sony let RaD pull something as stupid as this on purpose I'm completely done with them. I'm not going to buy a PS4 because of them. If they do this I'm going to boycott every single one of their products. I won't support them even if I happened to buy a PS4 at some point.
So while mgs4 is 50% cutscene
this looks to be 100%
Strange handling of this game so far but it's not like the real media push for this game has started. We know it's coming, we know it's a looker, but there is definitely something missing from what we've seen so far: and that's some kind of unique selling point. I hope to see it at E3. I'm not especially worried that we haven't seen it so far because we've genuinely seen about 3 minutes of gameplay and a bit of cutscene.
I hope they get it right, I really like the setting of this game.

Yeah... Now I get what you're saying and he's definitely aiming and shooting around them, but it does seem like a recoil heavy gun.
The "generic" complaints make sense because so far the only major defining features of this game that set it apart from standard TPS gameplay tropes are its good graphics, unique setting, and... a QTE melee system.
Modern Resident Evil's "thing" is focus on co-op, score attack modes, weapon purchases and upgrades, and the stun->melee combat loop.
Dead Space has dismemberment and antigravity and upgrades.
Gears popularized and modernized the cover system as well as set the standard for competitive TPS multiplayer.
Mass Effect has class based upgrades, unlocks, and different powers based on class.
Uncharted has platforming and hand-to-hand melee combat.
Tomb Raider has... I dunno, platforming I guess. (not the best example, and I'm sure many would actually agree)
Sunset Overdrive has fast acrobatic traversal, superpowers and wacky weapons, and fighting hordes of enemies.
The Last of Us incorporates stealth and survival mechanics.
The Order has mustaches and letterboxing and really good looking leather and metal.
I'm sure that RAD has some hook in there that they want to show off, but they haven't yet.
