Let's do it. What's your PSN ID?
Thanks, it being edited out now could have been a mistake? Odd.
I'll have a read on the train this morning.

But yet the game is crossplay and crossbuy between the PS4 and PC.
His wording is interesting... "I would have like to have seen them..." why isn't he saying "we told them to leave it on, we had no problem with it"?
Of course he will. Welcome to PR. Corporate executives will say whatever makes them and their company look good in the eyes of the consumer. I'm wondering though, why should it matter to me which company looks good and which company looks bad? Why should I care about their corporate mind games and not my own benefit? Enabling cross-play across the board is a win for consumers and every gamer should be supporting it regardless of which company is pushing for it.
Public statements like the ones Spencer is making will make it extremely hard for him to go back on if somehow Microsoft finds it self at the top of the console market in the future. The heads of these companies taking a firm and public stance on something is great news for everyone since they will fear a PR shitstorm if their corporate interests ever dictate an 180.
This means that once crossplay becomes a thing it will not go away in the future regardless of the then market leader. It will be a permanent change for good in the industry and everyone needs to look beyond any petty console fanboyism and support this.
Because he likely didn't explicitly tell them to leave it on, even if he had no problem with it? It's not like he's gonna call them up and recommend Epic take a course of action that'd have Sony beat their ass.
I think all Microsoft would have to do is the same thing they did before. Talk about the quality of Xbox Live, and throw in first class citizens. PR finds a way. We shall see next gen though. The game gets reset.
Anyone referencing crossplay in the past in terms of MS - they weren't fond of the idea until around 2015, and up to that point any potential game like FFXIV would have been a problem with Sony to begin with so it was probably easier to take that stance than to start shit in terms of why it can't happen.
Once Rocket League and then particularly Minecraft opened that door then it was the fuck Sony thing that started to go on - I get why they won't do it but it will hurt their brand in the longterm, and realistically doesn't make any sense as the market leader going forward.
This thread is already off to a great start, but I find it quite perplexing anybody is trying to put the blame on MS here or act like Sony is in the right, at all. Straight up no reason to be against crossplay other than fanboyism.
Yo if you're going to try to spin this as something MS did bad at least put some effort in. Right now this post just makes it look like you made that up and don't have the proof that you didn't.
Edit: I went through all of Fortnite's patch notes and in none of them do they even mention Xbox/PC crossplay, much less say that MS asked them to take it out.
Don't be lazy

I believe they already edited the patch notes to take out the MS policy part though.
Thank youMy name is Phil Spencer and I'll say anything to make me look like the good guy

Well in that case you don't really want to play with everybody do you?
Our you could do the minimal effort of reading through the thread. Blaming ms doesn't mean sony is doing right and nobody is saying that.
Wilfully ignoring ms's fault in this would only defeat the purpose youre so proudly championing.
I think he's talking about xbox players being able to find PC players in the main Fortnite game. The first appearance of the bug.. er feature or whatever. The people doing the Battle Royal mode are different from the Fortnite group. They have seemed to run into the same feature, implementing a way for players to find other consoles without any of the other platform holders knowing about it beforehand.

PSU and FFXI remain the minorities where both parties didn't really give a shit.
While I can agree with Mr. Spencer about the crossplay and how we should move towards it if possible, part of me feels as though that this is the best way to describe the situation.
That reply came after I started writing my post and so I missed it. If only you had linked it yourself when asked to, hmm. But also, the fact that it was removed in addition to Phil's tweet (this entire thread) implies that it's more nuanced than just "MS said no to Fortnite crossplay!" (which it wasn't even crossplay, it was cross-progression).
But also given the long history of Sony blocking crossplay this gen, and when something like this happens and all signs point to Sony being the holdup, going "no MS is at fault" with kinda flimsy arguments kinda implies Sony is, if not doing right, is at least not in the wrong. Which is less likely than what Occam's Razor implies.
It's perfect for this game mode too.
- no squads are parties
- needs 100 people for a full room
- would decrease times to start match and et into fuller games

I don't think it needs 100, but to max it out, yeah it caps at 100. Match starts at around 60 or something.
True but this also obvious the situation isnt as simple as the 'fuck sony' as 90% of this thread will be. If people believe posting on forums affects this in any capacity then people taking harsh stances in scenarios where they are not at all aware of the reality is just as likely to make sony go 'fuck you too', IF sony had little part to play in what happened.
My theory as to why it was removed due to Microsoft policy was because it didn't have an option for Xbox users to enable or disable cross-play. However, I'm not sure if that would apply for this game since there's no random matchmaking, but I don't own the game so I can't really speak with certainty with this situation.

Honestly, he does a lot of PR speak, but I'd given up on the Xbox brand with the One. He's made a lot of positive changes since taking charge of things and has done as much walking as he has talking, from what I've seen.My name is Phil Spencer and I'll say anything to make me look like the good guy
Is Sony the bus in this analogy? While I can agree with Mr. Spencer about the crossplay and how we should move towards it if possible, part of me feels as though that this is the best way to describe the situation.
Can't stop this train (bus)! Is Sony the bus in this analogy?
Of course he would. The question is if he would have the same position if Xbox were leading the race.

The original "crossplay" was having progress on PC transfer over to Xbox, and vice versa. The same setup occurs with PS4/PC players right now--they don't actually have crossplay there, either. So I'm not even sure if it's relevant to what happened over the weekend or not, or why such a feature would be taken out of the Xbox version.
Maybe it was something like MS saw it and asked Epic to tick all of the checkboxes that crossplay requires you to check and Epic said "yeah we won't bother with that just yet" and instead just pulled it out? Just randomly putting "at Microsoft's request" and not elaborating further is really weird for Epic to do too.
You're talking out of both sides of your mouth here. You start out by saying "if we give MS the benefit of the doubt, we should do the same with Sony" which is a fair stance to take, but then end with the bolded, which implies the idea that Sony had any part to play in this whole hassle, then they only had a little part, and even then that's a maybe. Either Sony is the reason crossplay died this weekend (that has a lot of evidence for it) or neither platform holder wanted it (which there is some evidence for).
So.... it needs 100 for "a full room" then.

At the very least, Phil Spencer sure is good at playing the blame game. Normally, features like this are discussed internally and with all partners before announced publicly, not suddenly sprung on other companies who probably doesn't even have it in their roadmap/pipeline. Throwing people under buses seems to be applicable here.
Yeah. It's a pretty good filter. If somebody is against crossplay or puts the blame on MS for lack of PS4/Xone cross-play you know 100% for sure they are a fanboy. There aren't exceptions, since there aren't any other reasons to be against it, or to not admit Sony is wrong here, at all. This thread is already off to a great start, but I find it quite perplexing anybody is trying to put the blame on MS here or act like Sony is in the right, at all.
