Spike VGAs (VGX) are 3 hours long this year, have extended gameplay demos

Awesome, 3 hours! I'm glad they seem to be turning this thing into more of an E3 style event, just one that has commercials and skits.

I don't mind commercials, but when you keep saying the same shit over and over again saying to go to gametrailers it gets tiring. Keep the commercials, buy please has some different shit. Yes for 100th time I know you can watch that on gametrailers fuck that PS4 event got to me. Is this how American advertising is?

Last year watching the stream and reading the GAF thread was totally worth it for The Phantom Pain trailer and all the reactions to it

3 hour show, 1 hour actual award show, 10 minutes actual new game footage, right?

Har har jk, just show me Colony Wars, Parappa, and a FF-Type Zero US release date and I'll be happy with whatever they do.

... so your glad gaming is again failing to gather mass appeal?

I am. I like integrity sometimes. The efforts to appeal to the mass by bringing in celebs who make awful jokes on us gamers rather than giving the very people who made these games great their 30 seconds of respect doesn't go well with me. But that's just me, anyway.

Not of fan of these awards to be honest, they're lack of coverage and acknowledgement of Nintendo games is disturbing (like two years ago when they completely overshadowed Skyward Sword).

This year will be no different, they will circle jerk over GTA V, TLoU and Bioshock Infinite (which are great games no doubt) and completely ignore the brilliant games released on Nintendo systems this year (Fire Emblem, Mario 3D world, Pikmin 3, Pokemon X/Y, Zelda ALBW, Etc.) which all have potential to be game of the year quality no doubt.

I'm not saying TLoU, GTA V, and other AAA releases don't deserve the praise, they are fantastic games, but Nintendo's offerings are right up there with them.

disturbing? i'd reserve that term for, like, chemical weapon attacks and genocide, not your favorite multi-billion dollar corporation missing out on meaningless awards

The amount of commercials is going to be killer, reading GAF might be the only suitable option. Highlight of last year was Phantom Pain and Dark Souls 2, especially Dark Souls 2.

30 times. Over or under?

These shows are excruciating but I can't look away. It's an event, the only time in any given year that I subject myself to something like this. It's an interesting curiosity.

So it will basically be an E3 Keynote in terms of demos/trailers mixed with "Awards". I can get behind this, hopefully it will turn out well.

Jesus. At least it sounds like they're moving away from the over-the-top awards show vibe of the past, and going into more of a pseudo-E3 event - which is what the show really needs to be. Still, 3 hours is a big chunk of time. Expect a lot of Titanfall & Destiny footage, and the expected underwhelming reveal trailers.

Like last year, I made a complete text list of the nominees with their hashtags:

i hope this gives developers more time for their acceptance speech because in the past they always get shafted.

but it probably wont happen and ill estimate at least 4 will get teabagged this year.....

Actually, last year's VGA's weren't that bad. It was the first time I actually didn't cringe while watching them. I don't think anybody got tea-bagged. If the Papers Please guy wins again, though, don't expect a long acceptance speech. The guy won a bunch of awards last year and seemed like a deer in headlights.

I think this is a step in the right direction. We can get proper gameplay demos of games instead of purely teasers and trailers. Also interviews and commentary for developers sounds nice. I like this.

Thanks Geoff.
