The Japanese page shows a few video comparisons regarding nerfed weapons:

Blasters appear to have been nerfed to do less damage from splash:

And so have Rollers, if they only hit you with the edge and not the center of the wave it won't do full damage:
https://youtu.be/2r334h868lU
https://youtu.be/5cebQ19Bodk

And E-Liter 3K family appears to only be a guaranteed 1HK if it's actually fully charged:

Wow blasters might need to get direct hits in a 1v1 situation unless the enemy stands in your ink. I wonder how many will still use this weapon, although the nerf doesn't to be big unless you don't manage to sneak up on your target.

Not feeling that E-Liter nerf, although we should keep in mind that the tester might not have enough damage ups. I think it might go from 55% (the minimum charge to kill someone with 3 damage up now) to maybe 60 or 65%.

Since we got a Squid Girl costume, I had a secret hope that we'd get JoJo costumes in the game. I mean, it probably won't happen, but a guy can dream.

Those changes to Splat zones sound bad. So teams in the lead get their special guage filled faster? Won't that make it way easier for matches to end in complete steamrolls? It's already bad enough as it is.

Finally picked my jaw up over how crazy all these nerfs / buffs are. Awesome stuff all around honestly. Only thing I'm confused about is the Special Gauge change for Ranked.

The winning team gains meter automatically now in Splatzones? That sounds backwards to me. Wouldn't that make games even more lopsided? Tower Control's change kinda makes sense since it would help for comeback pushes but it would also help for a crazy hard push at the start that may be too much to overcome. Rainmaker has the losing team gain Special and I think that makes perfect sense.

Maybe I'm being dumb and not seeing the bigger implications but right now it seems like it's changing it from giving the team that gets the initial, small advantage to now giving them a huge advantage. It can already be hard enough for a team to recover control when the other team has both zones and key positions, now the other team will be getting faster Zookas and Krakens on top of that.

I don't see any fixes for the "Connection not stable" error my son gets for ever single match. He's just had the game Monday and haven't been able to play online at all. Boo!

Yeah, roller nerfs might get me to play this game again. The whole hop-and-spray tactic makes rollers fucking broken.

The visual effects of position-tracking for teammates will be less visible

Very appreciated change here, it's a bit too easy to play with echolocator and get thrown off by the echolocation of your own teammates.

Gonna hop back in this weekend and see how things develop.

Nerfing Krakens, Splash Walls, and Rollers... It's almost everything I wanted!

... except improved gains/loss calculation for ranks other than S/S+...

Is this right?
Splat Zones
The leading team’s Special Gauge will gradually charge when the counter for both teams is stopped
*The Special Gauge will charge faster when the counter is active
I mean, giving a further advantage to the team already in the lead?

I'm ok with it because how many times have you gone down to 1 and had no way to defend from a team that goes full on special rush?

Maybe it's worded badly and it means that when the counter is active, the other team's special meter charges faster.

That's what I'm thinking. I mean, I could understand if the team that's behind gets a special advantage as a chance to get them back in the game (as that seems to be how it is for TC and RM).

After a year of Smash patch notes simply saying "Adjusted the game for a more pleasant experience!" or something along those lines, seeing Splatoon not only get patch notes, but ones that explain the changes to balance in-depth, still makes me happy! Like, I don't even care if this update is only for balancing purposes; we actually know what's getting balanced!

I mean, Squid Girl made sense because, well, Squid Kids. But JoJo gear, man. I'd love that!

Whoa, they added 750ms delay to attacking after Kraken wears off. Oh, and no more insta-kill by inkzooka when I am chasing a tentatek? At least I will have half a second warning, if that will even help.

Hmm, so there was a bug with disruptors. Was wondering why they seemed to have no effect so often after the last update. Glad to see it fixed, as disruptors are fun times.

I gladly welcome the blaster nerf, and I say this as a Range Blaster user. This should greatly tone down Luna Blasters to a normal power level, and also relieve them of the urge to wear damage up abilities. I already run zero damage ups so I am used to needing two splashes to splat.

I don't think rollers needed a nerf.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

You don't actually play this game, do you?

Inkzooka change

Kraken change (the delay before you can attack post-Kraken)

I was hoping that the Special Gauge change was mistranslated so I checked the Japanese log but, yeah, looks like the team in the lead will automatically fill Special. I'm really not understanding this one. Why make it even harder for the losing team to recover?

Ohhh man that inkzooka nerf. Goodbye instant panic button tentateks.

Out of all the anime/manga collaborations in the world, why Jojo? It makes no thematic sense on top of being violent as shit.

Also, I now officially predict a Nintendo Direct-announcement on Monday. Big maintenance on all Nintendo-platforms between Oct 19-20, and now a Splatoon-update on the 20th? Oh, it's a-coming.

Yeah, and they moved the weekly maintenance for all their games up to today (it's now the 16th here), for the huge maintenance this monday. Normally game maintenance is on monday every week. And according to L~A the major update name has been changed too.

"This morning, Nintendo made another change. The upcoming “General” maintenance is now known as “Using Nintendo Network ID”."
