Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game | The Official Thread

It's so easy to accidentally "cheat" in this game, there are just a lot of variables and rules to remember.

Just the other day I was playing a game where I took Turr Phennir out again and messed up a few times by doing a Barrel Roll as my action and again as his post attack move. Oops. :(

During that same match I took two defenders and finally tried out the Countess. WOW, is she a lot of fun. I also did a much better job at predicting my opponents moves and had a blast. A good thing too since Vessery was taken out on turn TWO by rolling blanks on defense and being caught dead to rights by Corran Horn with some amazing rolls by my opponent.

I think going forward Countess Ryad is going to be my defender of choice. A pity since I think Vessery with some TIE Adv. Prototypes seems like a great synergy, but I can't seem to make it work.

It went well for me and the 2 uncancelable hit double-tap from Autoblaster+AccCorrector+Phantom out in some serious work; it killed the Interceptor in one volley, took Talonbane Cobra down to 1HP in one volley, and put took out four shields from Bossk.

Wow, I hadn't thought about pairing Autoblaster with the Accuracy Corrector. That's nasty.

I love Ryad's ability and think she has a ton of potential but I have gotten unlucky with my matchups and faced only higher-PS pilots every time I have used her. I would love to be able to have enemies move first and then gauge what K-Turn I want off of that but I'm always moving first with her. I want to run her with PtL so bad but I might have to start throwing VI on her and hope that I start facing some PS6 or lower ships sometime soon.

I've looked up discussion on the combo and it seems like it is considered a novelty. I see people not recommending it for a variety of reasons: the range one requirement, they think TLTs are better, it takes the place of FCS, etc. I didn't mind the range one limitation because there are ways to hug your opponent with your large base; it's easy to keep out of range one of a Ghost they say, but Hera pilot combined with Nien Nunb and Navigator opens up almost your whole dial and means that you can decide what your move will be after everyone but Aces have moved and try to get into range one that way (costs a lot of points to do that though). My opponent tried to rush right into range one with all three of his ships, which I didn't mind at all. I get that people prefer TLT, but TLT will give you the same amount of damage as the Auto+Accuracy combo (4 hits), just at range 2-3 instead. I would prefer range 2-3 but TLT can be evaded and miss; the Auto+Accuracy combo can't be stopped as easily. I don't hate my dice or anything but I like that I get to avoid randomness for a little bit and push damage through based on my maneuverability and positioning alone. I don't need to focus or target lock or hope to do any kind of modifying to get the attack to hit like with a TLT; it just hits.

I enjoyed using it, and I enjoyed the frustration it caused my opponent. I've faced a list that contains just Accuracy Correctors featured heavily in it a couple times, 4x TIE Advanced and 1x TIE Advanced Prototype, and it is frustrating knowing that every shot will be two guaranteed hit results, your opponent won't whiff and have an all blank final result even once, and if you aren't rolling good then that damage gets through. It was fun being able to dish that out but know that bad defense rolls or evade tokens wouldn't even matter, the damage gets through regardless.

I was hoping to get some ideas for a K-Wing mod, if anyone has seen anything cool. I've been searching around but haven't seen much that makes them look better. I don't have any experience with modeling or modifying but I just wanted to try something. I saw where someone else removed the turret from the top front and added it to the bottom in the back, making it look like an old bomber's tail gun. The main thing I want to do though, at least on one of the ones I bought (I picked up a spare from the B&N half off clearance), is remove the landings kinds and ordnance struts (or at least saw them off and try to lay them flush along the larger wings).

Also, does anyone have a favorite Imperial A-Holes list? I was thinking of running the following:
-Col Jendon = Palpatine, ST-321
-Wampa
-Lt Colzet = TIE/x1, Accuracy Corrector
-Omega Leader = Juke, Comm Relay
The idea is to slow play the first two turns and use Jendon to hand off target locks to Omega Leader and Colzet. Then Colzett, Wampa, and Omega charge in and target the biggest "bad" on the field: Omega deals some damage by negating tokens and juking an evade, Colzet guaranteed gets hits in which may or may not be evaded but at least he won't blank on offense, Wampa pushes through a guaranteed crit with Palp, and then at the end phase Colzet flips a damage card up that Omega or him dealt. And if I need to, fly Jendon in behind them to throw out some side and maybe get target locks dealt out on later turns to whoever is near.
I really want to fly a four ship list using a Palpshuttle and it seems like the above might be the best I could do.

New HotR article is up for the T-70:

swx57-primed-thrusters.png

swx57-pattern-analyzer.png

swx57-jess-pava.png

swx57-snap-shot.png

swx57-m9-g8.png
Some interesting possibilities are already being spotted. Nien Nunb in range one with Snap Shot and an R3-A2 can attack with two dice and stress a ship in the activation phase which prevents their action, avoid the stress himself, and then stress them again in the combat phase on the range one attack while still avoiding the stress.
Jess's ability to target lock friendly ships is kind of weird, but kind of cool too.
Snap seems really maneuverable. Give him BB8 and he becomes EXTREMELY maneuverable. Using BB8 on him lets him get a free boost and barrel roll with a 2 or 3 green straight and then still get a focus or target lock action. I guess it would be BR>2/3 Straight>Boost>Focus or Target Lock. Put PtL on him and trigger it after the BR for a focus or target lock and let the green clear it too, so you could get four actions out of him on certain builds.
I already saw someone talking about a Green Sqaudron test pilot swarm with Snap Shot and Crack Shot on all of them. Get the block with one of them and the rest of the swarm Snap Shots the enemy into dust.

EDIT: Oh snap, "Youngster" finally has a use!!! Throw him in a TIE Swarm with Snap Shot and all of them can use it!
EDIT 2: nvm, The "Youngster" swarm synergy won't work, as Snap Shot has the "ATTACK:" header and not "ACTION:"

Primed Thrusters is crazyyyyyy

Just imagine doing an S-loop with a TIE/FO and then barrel rolling to get the perfect shot.

Got a pretty good haul yesterday. One of my local Barnes and Nobles has some of their X-Wing stuff on clearance and I managed to grab the Hounds's Tooth and a pair of IG-2000's for $55. I'm already very familiar with the Hound's Tooth, time to put together a Brobot list.

Just had a text to say that wave 9 is waiting for me at home. Hype.
The local store will have it on the shelves today, so I think I will pop in and buy at least a ship. I would rather get them online (and rather wait to buy them, since nothing in this wave really excited me), but I haven't bought anything in the store in a little while, so it'll be good to go in and spend a few bucks.

Went to X-Wing night last night and the store was already selling Wave 9. Picked up an Arc-170 (their last one!) and a Protectorate Starfighter to start with ^_^

I have a gift card to Barnes & Noble so I'll probably use that to pick up a Shadow Caster this weekend, then get the Special Forces TIE/FO at another game store.

My ARC couple won't be here until tomorrow :(. Oh well, I will kill the time working on my Jango's Firespray repaint.

I gave in and bought an ARC-170. The only thing I don't have from wave 9 now is the Shadow Caster. I like black market slicer tools and rigged cargo shoot but that's about it.

I'm really tempted to try my hand at a Razor Squad repaint but I'm not confident about painting the nose details. And the model already looks so good I hate to ruin it.

Asajj Ventress is the sleeper hit of Wave 9. I'm legit thinking of retiring my TIE swarm this season for a Ventress TLT-Hog build.

I'm considering that paint job too but am hesitant for the exact same reasons. It's a brilliant scheme though.

Welp, add me on the "I want to repaint one (or both) of my ARCs and that scheme is effing great" list :p. I've been searching for others, but I didn't see any other close to this on coolness.

And talking on repaints, I'm almost finished on my Jango Firespray. Just need to paint the cockpit, engine and some panel lines, and it will be good to go.

You following Jay Adans painting video with that? I really like it!

Yep! I was torn between the Jango scheme and a Boba repaint more faithful to the movie (greens and so), but his video decided it. I won't do the glossing on the cockpit, tho. That thing scares me.

It also gave me the idea of the salt weathering, a really neat trick.

Jay Adan replied to a question I asked on Reddit confirming that my idea of running a blue wash over a standard grey tie fighter would give them the blue hue similar to the rest of the TIE models in the game (the Gozanti hadnt been released at the time so we had grey TIES and advanceds)

Nete

I still need to magnetize it and buy some gloss varnish for the cockpit, but Jango's Firespray is essentially done.

Bonus track with her family (the Andrasta was painted by a friend):

Yes, I love Firesprays :p. Someday I should bring the triple Imperial Firespray list to a tournament just for fun.

Oh! I've been thinking about making my TIE Advanced Prototypes match the rest of my Imperial Navy. Do you remember which blue wash you used? Any pictures?

I have a small store tournament coming up Sunday. As much as I want to play with my new Protectorate Fighter I know at least half the lists there are going to include them. I really think my best bet is to use my new Ghost, Shuttle, and ARC list. Hera with autoblaster turret/accuracy corrector discourages range 1 Old Teroch and/or Fen Rau shenanigans if not punishes for it.

Yep, Protectorate Starfighters go down like tissue paper, especially to turrets. Enjoy your tournament win =P

So I didn't win the tournament at all. 8th place but I had fun with the list and got predator and stress tokens. Ended up going with Hera, Zeb, and Jake Farrell. I was ready to face Protectorate fighters and only two people were using them. I only faced one. Whoops.

You placed 8 out of how many people total?

Out of 10 lol
Hey, that's better than my last two events I went to then. I only keep going to events here because hardly no one else shows up, which guarantees me some acrylic.
I was hoping your list would have done better though. I've tried my Ghost/Phantom/Biggs list twice now. The first time was a shut-out in my favor and the second didn't go as well. I want to try a Ghost once outside of the casual X-Wing nights at people's houses and took some advice on some changes from a guy on r/XwingTMG when I asked. So I plan on taking the following with me to an OP event on Saturday:

VCX-100: Kanan Jarrus (38)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
Tactical Jammer (1)
Recon Specialist (3)
Recon Specialist (3)
Ghost (0)

X-Wing: Biggs Darklighter (25)
R5-P9 (3)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Attack Shuttle: Ezra Bridger (20)
Rage (1)
Hera Syndulla (1)
Phantom (0)
-- TOTAL ------- 100/100p.

I also want those store championships with auto-free cards and acrylics :p. Last two I've been, we were 36 and 50 players.

Made 1-2 on both, one with an Emon-Boba list, the other with Nora-Braylenn-Biggs. Not too bad considering the people I had to face, although I fucked up a game with the Arcs against a quad Y-TLT list.

My list was as follows:

Hera
Ghost
Autoblaster turret
Accuracy Corrector
Nien Nunb
Chopper

Zeb
Phantom

Jake Farrell
A-Wing Test Pilot
Veteran Instincts
Push the Limit
Autothrusters
Proton Rockets

97 points

I wanted to be absolutely sure I had the initiative bid versus Fen Rau (which worked out perfectly because the only one I played was 98 points). The naked Zeb shuttle worked out fine as I never wanted to deploty it unless I absolutely had to/was forced to.

I just need to figure out when exactly I should joust or run with the Ghost. I never used Chopper the entire day so I'm going to swap him for Intelligence Agent. I love Hera's ability but I need that slight edge for 8+ skill pilots. Over all this was a lot of fun because Hera had a range 1 death bubble everyone wanted to avoid at all costs and Jake kept everyone on edge.

Has anyone played with the TIE/SF much? I'm trying to find a build that I like but it has been difficult. I hate to call it terrible but it's hard to call it good; It's not as maneuverable as your usual TIE and only hits a little harder to make up for it.

I have two different builds in mind but each one goes with the same squad:
Omega Leader
-Juke
-Comm Relay
Zeta Leader
-Wired
Howlrunner

Kamikaze Quickdraw
-Spec Ops Training
-Rage
-Electronic Baffle
-Sensor Cluster
-Twin Ion Engine Mk II

Pretty self explanatory. Quickdraw gets into position to rage and uses the baffle to remove a shield to get in two attacks. TIE Mk II helps clear the remaining stress, sensor cluster gives some hope of survival until she can rage it again.

Backdraft
-Spec Ops Training
-Veteran Instincts
-Sensor Jammer
-Sensor Cluster

Backdraft is about covering the squad's back and improving survival.

I've also thought about a kind of tricky Quickdraw
-Spec Ops Training
-Draw Their Fire
-Sensor Jammer
-Sensor Cluster

This makes her harder to hit and if they opt to just attack another squad member she can take a blow to attack twice. I just have to shave off a point somewhere else in the build.

I maneuvered my way around downed trees and limbs along the highway and navigated my way through many intersections with no working lights on Saturday to be able to try the Ghost list I posted a little ways up the page. The hurricane couldn't stop me!
Six people showed up to the OP. I went 1-2 and fell into fourth place. Prizes were the old tuckboxes that used to be in OP kits, which I didn't get any of, and another Summer kit. So now I'm up to 6x alt-art Predators and 9x stress tokens.
First match was against the guy who I played first on both of the last two events I went to. I actually do not really remember what he flew; I woke up extremely sick the following day and it is still currently kicking my ass. Assajj was one of the ships. He took out all of my ships though, I remember that.
Second matchup was against a guy flying Manaroo and Kath. I got really worried about Kath after playing some good Scum Firespray players at this store but he said he didn't have much experience with this list. He set up a very nice range one rear shot with Tailgunner on Kath very early on, making me even more worried, but I escaped that and went on to crush both of his ships, Kath first, and won.
The third match was against a Transdoshan Slaver and one of the IG droids. Like I said, I'm pretty sick right now. It went to time and on the last attack he took out the Ghost. Biggs and Ezra were still alive, but it didn't matter. He had 50 points and I got 25 from half of his slaver. EDIT: I was completely wrong with what he flew, he had Moralo Eval with IG crew and an IG88B I think.
So it actually worked better for me that either of my last couple lists did, because the last two events saw me not winning a single match. I want to try it again though. I definitely did a better job than the last time of keeping Biggs in range one but still able to be targeted by the enemy.

To pay entry to the event, I opted to buy an ARC rather than pay the $5, so I've been putting together an ARC, K-Wing, T-65 X-Wing list that I cannot wait to try.

I really hope they release all the OG Xwing pilots with boost. Desperately needed cause they are garbage ships besides Biggs.

A star wars game with Luke and wedge being useless doesn't make any sense.

Well, now we can give each of them barrel roll or essentially an extra shield for 1 more point, so that's decent.

Wasting points and slots for barrel roll sucks.

The game is way different than when it first started. They need a natural barrel roll or boost so they are maneuverable and not so predictable. It's easy to avoid an OG xwing because you know where's it will be all the time.

Welp, done. First time I've tried some modest freehand, blending (inks on the cockpit) and sponge chipping.

I still can't believe that after a gazillion years playing 40k, Necromunda and Blood Bowl without touching a paintbrush, I'm finally painting things... that are already painted.

You've got a knack for it. That's really bloody good. I'm looking to paint one of my ARCs too but I dunno what scheme yet. I like to keep my paint jobs as Canon as possible (blood stripes, squadron schemes etc) except when it comes to scum, I tend to get a bit more creative with those.

Ill try and get all my painting attempts together and post photos soon.

Had our league tournament over the weekend and I did alright (2 win, 2 loss). I went with my Bananarama list:

Kath Scarlet
Lone Wolf
Tail Gunner
Engine Upgrade
Glitterstim

Kaato Leeachos
Adaptability
Thread Tracers
Guidance Chips
Black Market Slicer Tools

Binayre Pirates x2
Concussion Missile
Guidance Chips
Black Market Slicer Tools

I'm going to take the slicer tools off of Kaato (it's overkill) but other than that everything did what I intended; I built this list to beat Dash, who still sees a lot of play here. the initiative bid allows Kath to move after Dash and get inside the blind spot. the Headhunter squad can block, make the opponent think twice about PTL and provide a looming threat of a missile strike. I faced two Dashes and barely lost to one. It was down to Dash and Kath, both with only a few hull left. She couldn't get indside Dash's blindspot so she opted to slow him down with the rear gun. Kath was destroyed but Dash only survived with one hull. It's a fun list but I've played it (or slight variations) too much lately.

New article on Sabine's TIE is up, along with a new faq. Highlights include:

Deadeye is now small ship only
Heavy Scum title now includes Increase your Hull value by 1
When you real a Red maneuver and are already stressed, instead of your opponent setting your dial, perform a white 2 straight maneuver.
Cluster Mines are now explicitly hits and crits.

From the new FAQ
Deadeye
The text on this card should be preceded by the
phrase:
“Small ship only.”

We're free.

EDIT: Beaten to it.

All the changes are pretty welcome, does anyone have an opinion on whether we'll actually see the syck getting some play? I have seen it so little I legitimately have no idea how big of a difference it'll make.

Thank God for the Deadeye change.

This was overall a good rules update. I do wish they had waited until after Worlds to implement the rules changes; it probably sucks for the pros who were gonna take U-Boats, and everyone else now has to prepare for a bunch of lists that weren't possible before.

Ive read so many jokes about how worlds top 16 isn't gonna have a single British player and I laugh every time.

I think it's fantastic news. They always drop a new FAQ before a major tourney or before the start of a new season and next month we have both worlds and regionals.

I never tried TripleJump myself, but I'm glad it's gone.

The other interesting change is stressed red maneuvers: If a player reveals a red maneuver while stressed the opponent no longer selects another move, it is now treated as a white straight 2. Apparently this was done because of Rigged cargo shoot. Previously you could drop debris on someone and stress them, and if they had chosen a red maneuver you could steer them wherever you want.

man nothing in here about Kylo's Shuttle eh?
The potential shenanigans with Dormitz and some ships with Hyperwave Comms are interesting to me. And Hyperwave Comms in general could be pretty good. I am pretty underwhelmed with the shuttle overall though. I'm still getting one, for reasons other than "I'll buy at least one of everything:" A) It looks cool, B) It comes with two Snapshots.
I was really hyped for it though but at the moment I am more hyped for some potential lists I am building for after I buy a second cheap Lambda from a guy next weekend than I am for the Upsilon.
