I decided to update some of my courses in addition to porting some over from older Mario games.

Have fun GAF! The rest of my levels are here.

I was mostly stuck on that last one. Solving them is very manageable but rushing to solve them is a little difficult for me. In fact the last one is not even a puzzle but more like race to the finish without dying. Also, that area before the third puzzle room with the hidden blocks all over, I don't know what that pipe up there is for other than to troll me and tell me to start over.

If that mid level for you I can only imagine what's high level for you.

Lol that's a halfway point marker. It drops you to where there is a hidden block to get up there. I left a comment so hopefully other people know now.

Loved this level.. Very cool use of miiverse comments!

I made a level based on this gif

b2MkcjT.gif

It's called Yoshi Must Die.

It's a level where Yoshi dies. A lot.

Poor poor yoshis but at least they served a purpose in their short lives...good level!

Bowser's Fun House!

My take on a traditional 4-X castle stage.

It was nice to play a more traditional level. Not to easy not too hard, with skill based jumping.

After many hours of work, I present to you my latest creation: MARIOTROIDVANIA!

mbiil1h.jpg

In case the name didn't make it obvious enough, Mariotroidvania is a large, Metroidvania-like level that's light on enemies but heavy on exploration and puzzle-solving!

Give it a shot by entering the code below, and please let me know what you think!

2216-0000-006D-31F8
I liked how it wasn't too tedious if you died. And is entirely possible to do on the first try if you're careful and patient(which I wasn't lol) pretty clever for sure!

I've made two pretty traditional SMB3 levels. One has a lot of conveyor belt jumps and the other is a bit inspired by a certain level in SMB3. Both have a few secret one-ups to find. They should be moderately difficult. Let me know what you think, especially if you somehow got stuck somewhere.

Castle of Conveyance
(CCFA-0000-006E-991D)

Let's Kick Shell
(3D0B-0000-006E-812D)

These Boots are Made for Stompin
FBBD-0000-006E-8AB8
I like that you had an alternate entrance for those that don't know that you can ground pound with the heel shoes, and that there is a big coin reward for keeping it through to near the end of the level. Always enjoy a good shoe level!

Perilous Pipes
FCB8-0000-006E-525C
I'm not a fan of lots of pipe usage just because pipes in this game have such weird timing with things popping out of them. For a lot of it, the level layout made me feel pretty aware of where plants were going to pop out of pipes. It's up front with what it is, so it's apparent that you should be cautious in this one. Stage goes on for a good length of time, given the pace. Appreciate the fireball near the end. Satisfying to shoot the plants after being bothered by them throughout the stage.

Fight-Flight Mountain
(2B55-0000-006E-5274)
A lot going on in this level. Not too many cheap shots, I think. Good challenge, but I got through it first try. I felt like the area with the floating bricks was the toughest part. I need to give this one another play sometime. Seems like there are a lot of places to go. I did end up going through a section backwards though I think. Popped out of a pipe and into two piranha plants sitting on top of it.

Spook Central
8343-0000-006E-52B1
I don't know if I'd say light challenge. A few of those vine jumps are pretty dangerous, and the very last section's blue skull platform killed me because I was little and looking the wrong way. Nice level, almost got confused at the end where the P-switch pops out.

Vines 'n Eggs
F2FD-0000-006E-4306
.
Pretty straightforward level if you stick to the ground. Think I found every one-up (if there are three of them). Always appreciate the idea of an optional harder path in a level that gives rewards. Nice placement with the arrow to indicate a good place to fall. A good level for beginners, but fun to run around in for an experienced player.

Mountains and Streams
B9F7-0000-006D-FDC9
Found all three one-ups and killed lakitu for a victory flight. Levels like these make me wish we could at least add a simple, constant water line to a level. Pretty easy level until I tried to kill lakitu early with the jumping cheeps and took a few hits. Last underwater section is pretty tight quarters too. I enjoyed this one.

Yoshi Returns Fire
51CB-0000-006E-1EC2
Interesting level. From the title, I suppose you meant for the player to throw shells back at Bowser, but since you give unlimited fire flowers, I thought it was a lot quicker to just spam fireballs at them and ignore Yoshi. Got killed a few times after killing the top Bowser from taking hits because of the way the blue skull platform moves. I guess I was supposed to have Yoshi here, but he was otherwise unnecessary.

Now that I have all of the content unlocked, I thought I would get a bit more ambitious. My latest level is my first attempt at a puzzle-style level. I played around with the need to search for different power-ups to get past different challenges. I think it might be relatively difficult, but it's hard to judge for puzzle levels. The style is SMB3 Castle. Let me know what you think! I'm happy with the way this level turned out.

My next puzzle level is short but sweet. It's story driven so make sure you leave Miiverse commentary on. There is only one enemy in the whole stage: glaDOS. This level isn't hard, but Portal fans may recognize a few things. Check it out!

So good!

And it was hard enough! Not a lot of death, but a lot of required restarts!

This game needs an app or something. I'm like 2 stars away from getting 50 stars and being able to upload 20 levels but I can't check it until tomorrow and the suspense is killing me! I'm too weak for this...

Made a stage that I think has a pretty cool gimmick, while also being my first auto-scroll stage:

Don't look back!
0D1D-0000-0068-C586

WVW69ia4CKgzFWKUDL

2 hidden extra lives, and 1 extra life through collecting 100 coins.

Picked some levels randomly from the last few pages to play tonight! Gave a star to all three.

Here's a new stage I just finished:
One Minute in Heaven

5ED1-0000-006C-9133

WVW69ibFm1gh7dgnnH

It's a 60 second speed run across some airships, and I hope it has a nice flow to it!
I also put in some secret short-cuts. If you find them all, you can clear it much faster. My record is 21 seconds.

Fun! Took me a few tries, I don't think I found the shortcuts but still managed lol

Finally finished my first level. It isn't really on par with what is on display here but I would appreciate any thoughts/criticisms you guys may have. I started it before having everything unlocked so I made consessions here and there and I missed some opportunities. Now that I have access to everything hopefully my next level will be a bit better.

Pick-a-Path Park
6B43-0000-006A-9DC1

-Somewhat short level with a few different paths to discover.

I think it's cool how you choose the path, not just "jump here or there" but plan a bit ahead and see how to progress. Some tricky parts but I enjoyed it.

Here's one I really flexed my creative muscle.

You are at 53 stars right now. And I'm probably about to give you a few more.

I liked this level. Lots of interesting ideas but the two paths I took were pretty inconsistent in terms of difficulty. I died a couple of times
falling off the vine onto the platform under the spikes
, but had a really easy time
going an alternate route through the pipe into the underwater section
. Maybe toughen this part out a bit and you're onto a winner.

Thanks for the kind words! I tried to offer multiple ways through the level just in case something goes wrong. During testing I even discovered an unintentional infinite 1-up loop that I couldn't have designed if I tried...heh. I agree that the one area is way too easy, and it was a late addition. I ended up leaving it in as-is as a simple exit for those easily frustrated. Perhaps I will go in and add a few more hazards to that section. Again, thank you for taking the time to play it, I really do appreciate the thoughts!

Thanks! And to think, I almost didn't upload it! Not to overly repeat myself but your comments are much appreciated! I am glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to play it!

OK GAF, here's your late-night weekend double feature:

Peach's Great Escape (4C90-0000-006E-CBBD)

WVW69ibM3n0qQMwTW1

4-1 Remix (Big Enemies) (C9A5-0000-006E-E1DC)

WVW69ibNHnw7XNPsQl

Peach's Great Escape is probably what you'd expect -- Peach isn't in another castle, she's in this one, and she's breaking out! I tried to make this a bit tougher than my regular levels -- after all, if it were so easy for Peach to escape, Mario would have nothing to do!

4-1 Remix (Big Enemies) is my take on the sort of remix levels Nintendo packed into the 10 Mario Challenge. What level is it? Why, it's 4-1 from Super Mario Bros. 3 of course, the level that introduces the giant enemies! Be forewarned that if you haven't played SMB3 in a while, this stage is pretty short. I tried to give it the SMM Remix treatment as well as I could.

I hope you all enjoy, and as always I welcome feedback!

Okay, finally finished my next stage!

It's called The Frozen Mansion. It starts out as a puzzler and then becomes more straightforward.

D3D4-0000-006E-F263

Please let me know if you play it so I can play one of yours in return!

Just uploaded my first level.

"You know what?! You go find her!"

Just a castle level with some of my more favourite mechanics from the Mario universe wrapped up in a theme surrounding Mario having quite enough of Toad's "The princess is in another castle" spiel.

Finished my new course. I think this one took the longest to create. I wasn't really pleased with it last night but I added an optional room and tweaked some thing. I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

Please give it a try and tell me what you think!

Well designed level but I ran out of time. The Thwomp part was annoying because it just slows down progression way too much especially after a puzzle part that can take up most of a player's time.

I hope you guys enjoyed the stream and my feedback. Again, I apologize that I'm not a great Mario player so I die plenty of times at stupid places. Plus, there were a few stages that I had to use the editor to help me complete. However, I made sure I made it to the flag in the end in all the stages. So I hope I paid enough respect to all the level creators. Thank you for providing me with these fun stages to play. I know a couple of creators were there watching me live and helping me out as well, so I really appreciate that.

Stream chat seem to have gotten a little rowdy at times too so I'm not very happy about that. Next time, I will try to get a mod in so nobody can troll in the chat. That is very unacceptable and is the first time I've experienced such an occasion in my streaming chat. So I don't know if it's some GAFers here being silly or not, but I won't be so forgiving next time in my own stream chat.

Made a level experimenting with the tools. It's a small challenge with some optional paths. Enjoy.

Don't get me wrong. I love precision jumps, but I hate them when you have no idea where you're supposed to land until you're dead.
that's the very last jump in my newest stage. I doubt more than 3 people will see it though.

Enemies falling on you at the beginning of the stage? That's a skip.

More than one Lakitu at a time? That's a skip.

Enemies coming out of question blocks? That's a skip.

Unskippable Bowser towers? Oh you better believe that's a skip.

I can deal with 2 Lakitu depending on what they throw. The rest are Gross outside of enemy boxes in ghost houses where they belong.

No problem, but yeah whenever live steams get advertised, drifters will pop in. Doubt anyone from GAF was the culprit since they would've known it was a GAF stream, but I guess you never know. Thanks for giving my level a shot though. Good visual feedback.

New stage I made. It's meant to be uneven and help a friend learn how to use the wall jump and twirl NSMB had. It's not all that special or good as a tutorial, but some fun can be had with it.

Cave 1-2 It's Safer Underground : 6221-0000-006F-13A8

I made a Bowser tower stage, just to test out some ideas.

Fight Bowser fire with Bowser's fire. Second path to fight Bowser Jr. should anyone wish to take it.
Yoshi Returns Fire : 51CB-0000-006E-1EC2

Interesting level. From the title, I suppose you meant for the player to throw shells back at Bowser, but since you give unlimited fire flowers, I thought it was a lot quicker to just spam fireballs at them and ignore Yoshi. Got killed a few times after killing the top Bowser from taking hits because of the way the blue skull platform moves. I guess I was supposed to have Yoshi here, but he was otherwise unnecessary.

Aye, I realise now Yoshi is unnecessary, but concept idea and all that. The name Yoshi Returns Fire actually is meant to refer to Yoshi's ability to grab Bowser's fire and throw it back (it combined with shells and fire flower make the fight go much quicker).

With the blue skulls, Yoshi (or a mushroom and quick speed during invincibility frames) is only needed to leap to the right before the blue skulls will go down for the first time to reach a pipe to get a second optional area.
Other than that, it's possible to survive the entire trip on the blue skulls without taking damage, just stand still on the far left of them and crouch until it's over with.

Thanks for playing the stage and your thoughts on it.

Hey, guys.

Finally a level I'm kind of proud. It's called "A Mario Between Worlds" and... well, I think you could guess what it is about.

625B-0000-0069-5EE3

Let me know what you think!

That's great. I loved "shifting" ideas. Makes me want to do a Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams homage.

Sudden silence in a Mario game stood out to me far more than I thought it would. I'm not sure how much of that was just to indicate change or to affect the player, but it worked on both counts for me.

4F9C-0000-005F-2DFE

Very much a Super Mario 3 stage, simple and charming and I enjoyed it for that. I think I may get in my own way sometimes making stages, adding unnecessary fluff, so I'll have to remember why yours works so well in the future.

I think my first level came out pretty good.

If you like classic Super Mario World castle levels with no bullshit enemy placements, fair platforming, a throwback mid-boss and a kind of different way to defeat Bowser, you should try this ;)

ID: 64AB-0000-0069-D893

I enjoyed it, save for the first door against the magikoopas and all the blocks. I found trying to get past the blocks more tedious than anything else with how they were laid out.

As for fair platforming. I agree it can all be done, but I think I would be more willing to actually finish it (rather than just get get to the axe and think I've seen enough), if some of the jumps had just a wee bit more leeway. For example, reaching the door after hitting the P block if there was either more of a angle for the leap or it was one block wider entrance.

A somewhat challenging (but simple!) course centred around Shy Guy.

Please let me know what you think!:

Shyguy's Great Escape

CDB0-0000-005E-F42A

That was fun. Not often I see a Shyguy nor one where my habit of trying to go as fast as possible went against me (couldn't see what I was doing on the skull platform). Good work on the lower path, I missed that in my first attempt.

I also played your Bowser's pod racer stage. Silly fun that one, though I almost ran out of time because I got stuck bouncing between clown cars and the game simply wouldn't allow me to do anything. Less a problem on your end and more the game itself, but something to note.

This is my third level, if anyone is interested.

2C8F-0000-0068-5C3E

It might not hurt to put a block or an arrow to tell the player to go to the right after the fall. The coins are obviously a big help, but a few small bits of guidance can go a long way.

It's also not clear there is a fail state. While I'm sure that's the point as it's meant to be done in one attempt, no forgiveness, but that may put off some players. Even if time runs out, a door or something that takes them back to where they can get flight back might be appreciated.

http://i.imgur.com/pY5Pm3Q.jpg[/][/QUOTE]

Well now I feel silly for making a simple tutorial for wall jumping at the top, when I could have just used yours. Nice and clear, good work.

Well designed level but I ran out of time. The Thwomp part was annoying because it just slows down progression way too much especially after a puzzle part that can take up most of a player's time.

I was worried about that. I'll probably go back and streamline that bit. Thank you!

Finally completed my new stage, and I'm extremely happy about it. Feedback would be appreciated!

Chomp-Chomp Ruins
nS9oZCB.jpg
bAGD6Q2.jpg

What was once a proud city of fortune, is now a place of legend. Beyond the sprawling forests and rugged mountains of Mushroom Kingdom, you can find the former city now known to locals as, Chomp-Chomp Ruins. Overwrought with Munchers and stray Chain-Chomps, Mario must have a constant guard if he wants to make it through the ruins alive. Narrow passageways, glistening rocks, abandoned railways, and a slew of dangerous creatures greet our hero, as he continues further and further into the ruins. Can you see it through?

Stage ID: 0ED3-0000-006F-488E

Took me two days to finish this baby. A tad bit more difficult than my previous stages, but the scope is there, and fair challenge is good! Be patient, but be nimble as well!

Enjoy!

Over the week or so I'm going to be playing all the levels posted here which is daunting but I'm looking forward to it. I'll be starting from page 1 and work my way up.

Edit: I'll be leaving feedback on the miiverse.

Poor Yoshi. Nice and straightforward, and the regens work well. Enjoyed the
Koopa shell pin-ball section
, expected more of these sections but it was mainly jumping and walking on spikes.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! It's true I should have added more variety, maybe in a second part :)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Here we go, playing GAF levels again while giving feedback to them

As Above Not Below!
A51E-0000-006D-96D5

Pretty good level. It's long, but it's always quite interesting. I didn't feel it was dragging too long. I suppose there are other secret exits, I'll surely replay it soon to see them. Good job.

Neat! I played both paths (not the secret exit to the bonus area though). The ground path seems to be easier than the underground one. Maybe even quicker, but it could be just me. Still, good: a decent challenge on the ground, a more intense one underground. The castle you built with blocks looks good as well. Nice.

One Minute in Heaven

5ED1-0000-006C-9133

Well, since one of my levels was about
vines on trails, I quite liked the part with the vine and bullet bills
. I'll admit it, I died the first time due to the time running out, I didn't realise the title was a reference to the time available in the level for whatever reason. Quite an intense challenge thanks to the limited time. I saw you used coins to partially guide the player in the pipe segment.

Waluigi's Cash Grab

8BCD-0000-006E-029E

Lots of coin indeed. It was a bit difficult, but not that much
since there were enough blocks with Waluigi Mushrooms across the whole level, making possible to take a hit
. Not bad, though. Good flow.

Mountains and Streams
B9F7-0000-006D-FDC9

Quite traditional, not bad. I could find two of the three 1Ups in the level,
it's good you awared who could find the first one with a Fire Flower
. Enjoyable underwater sequences too, rotfl at
angry wigglers' horde in one of the underwater sections.

The atmosphere was surely there, and I'd say the difficulty as well, it's more difficult than what you say. Also
in the vertical section where there are several Skull Koopas on platforms, I happened to be stuck on the platform on the door, after jumping a bit too much by hitting a Skull Koopa. You should put a solid block platform over the door
. Very good job.

And that's it for now. Don't know if I'll play other Gaffer's levels later in the day, hopefully I can. :p

If you want, you can play and feedback my levels as well. Here's the whole selection where you can choose from

Hi,

I just wanted to make a silly level after taking so much time on each levels of Super Mario Planets. In the end, I spent a couple of hours on this one lol. So here goes:

My sarcastic level has been racking up stars:

The Quintessence of Mario Maker - (9333-0000-0057-AB90)
It has everything a level seemingly needs: super short, automatic, musical notes, dancing Bowser, disco effect, and a golden shower of coins... which makes it effectively the ultimate Super Mario Maker level you will ever play in less than one second.

My other levels:

Welcome to Retroland 1-1 - (546B-0000-0022-5E73)
A simple opening level, with a few secrets and three hidden 1up mushrooms to find.

The Cube: 9 Rooms, 9 Challenges - (36A3-0000-0038-EC1B)
Featured here: http://kotaku.com/20-excellent-mario-maker-courses-you-should-play-1731659732
It's loosely inspired by the movie The Cube, and features nine 1-screen rooms arranged in a 3x3 square with different traps inside.
I wanted to make a puzzley level with small, self-contained rooms, and experiment with backtracking and permanent changes to the environment. Which proved itself to be quite the challenge.
Not all rooms are mandatory to complete, some lead to the three 1up mushrooms hidden around, and one features an optional puzzle whose completion can make your life a bit easier later on.

Don't Trust The Coins! - (453F-0000-004C-10A9)
For 30 years, we've relied on coins to guide us and tell us the way. What happens when they revolt? What happens if they try to kill us?
A SMB3 styled castle level with (once again) three hidden 1up mushrooms, and a twist: if you see coins, be aware. They may be trying to lure you.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Groundhog Day v3 - (1550-0000-0056-E34C)
Mario is stuck in a time loop, and the same day is repeating endlessly. Can you find a way to escape the loop and fix time?
As usual, there are three hidden 1up mushrooms to find.

Fight-Flight Mountain

(2B55-0000-006E-5274)

This is my second map, and I like to think it's well designed. Very tough, and very fair. I wanted it to feel like a really tough, end-game Nintendo-designed level. Give it a shot and lemme know what you think, guys! I'd really appreciate some impressions and tips, I gave this one my all.
