Terraria |OT3| 1.2 many things to dig...

As of the last time I played, it didn't. I didn't like having to move the mouse the tiniest bit to point it at every single tiny block. With high dpi and high resolution, it was really tedious to me compared to the way it controls in the console version. The mouse obviously has many other advantages, though. Ranged combat in the Vita version is pretty ass.

I haven't gotten much exposure to ranged combat except with like the flaming arrows but I've found that to be pretty fun so far...still really early game by the sounds of some posts here! Sometimes mining is effort due to the sticks though, something about aiming really precisely downwards and to a slight angle. Still, got way further on it on my vita. Just worried about starting it up again due to spending hours mining away!

I like it a lot on Vita. For mining downward I typically just put the cursor into manual mode, leave it right in the middle of my feet, and move back and forth with the left joystick to do a 2-width tunnel. It works pretty well. But yeah the controller and the KB/M setups definitely have their own pros and cons.

I can do some ranged combat on Vita, and it works out just fine, but compared to a mouse it's pretty inferior unfortunately. (imo of course)

MrRudi posted a small update on the official forums about their progress on the 1.2 patch for consoles.

Glad to hear that it's still on track for "early 2014"; can't even imagine how much more addicted I'll become with all the new stuff being added.

Vita version starting to click with me, I can feel the crack being injected.

Does anyone have a good tunnel to hell guide? Or even a YT video? My mining so far has been reckless :(

Finally built my own hellevator. Took a while, and dealing with some of the larger pools of water was a pain, but it's done. Seemed to have picked up a trophy for it as well when dropping down it lol.

Not played Terraria on the PC for years, nice to see hell is filled with even more enemies to kill me! Managed to get a hellforge from bombing its tiles. Apart from it and a few hearts not much I can do in hell till I get better equipment. Rocking silver armour and a gold pickaxe.

Who is the boss I need to kill to get a better pickaxe?

I literally JUST made my first pickaxe better than the gold one, so let me help! Spoiler marked, too, for those wanting to do it all on their own. It's not much, but some people love the exploration and doing it themselves.
The Eater Of Worlds drops shadow scales, which can be combined with demonite Ore to make the Nightmare Pickaxe. You can get to the Eater of Worlds by destroying 3 Shadow Orbs, located in the Corrupted Area (purple ore you can't mine yet, usually accompianed by a music change and plentiful Soul Eaters). To GET to the orbs, use bombs! That pickaxe allows you to mine Hellstones, among other things, so go back to hell and get enough ore for 20 Hellstone bars, to make the Molten Pickaxe, the best pickaxe available in normal mode.

I had been rocking the gold pickaxe for FAAARRR too long, and I just today (on my lunch break at work) made my
Nightmare Pickaxe, and working on my Molten axe now.
Can't tell you how many hours I have, but I have 2 hellavators, and very large portions of the small map done. I don't have much to do before I get to hardmode, and even better pickaxes D: Gotta take down that Wall, first...

I'm a total Terraria n00b too, the Vita version is the first I played it. I couldn't do the PS3 version for some reason. I. Love. This. Dam. Game.

I know I'm too late for your first hellavator, but for the next one, try making it just 2 blocks wide. Walls on both sides so no stupid slimes can hit you off course, killing you from fall damage. Any lava/water in the way, just mine to the side and drain it. I made a nice line of lava next to my wall for a while, it looks neat :D But I have that going into a pool of water right above Hell, then I have a short drop with markers to designate when to double jump to avoid the fall damage going down the rest of the way. As for WHERE to start...I made easily runnable pathways to all my hellavators, with doors on either side to allow a (usually) unobstructed run. Add in Hermes Boots and you'll be there in no time, flat. Don't forget to light your fall, too, I found so much ore & hearts making mine.

Yeah I've lost my life to my Vita these past few days.

I killed the Eye boss, but I'm struggling with The Eater of Worlds, currently trying to kill it. I think my silver armour is lacking. A Dryad moved in, she sells corruption cures in the form of powder, so instead of using bombs I've been using it to get to orbs. Failed twice on the boss now, might be running out of orbs and will have to summon manually.

I tried with my "lightsaber" weapon first time, second time tried to use the space gun along with it. It's difficult fighting underground with all the body parts going everywhere.

Managed to find hermes boots already, think they were in a random chest.

Guess it's time to go exploring underground again and trying the boss later. Although the most recent orb I cracked open had that ball of hurt weapon, apparently its good to use against The Eater of Worlds.

Anything that can pierce is great against the Eater, if you've been smashing orbs to summon him (instead of crafting the summon item) there's probably some meteors lying around you could harvest to make armour with - the space gun doesn't cost mana when wearing it. Building some platforms above the corruption before you summon him and lasering him to death is my usual strategy.

Thanks. I had one meteor drop already, but spent the ore on the gun and the lightsaber. Those fiery heads are a PITA when you're trying to mine lol.

I went and created meteor armour to have my gun with infinite ammo, then ended up killing the Eater with those spikey balls the goblin armies drop. Had about 180 of them. Just spammed almost the whole lot and it pretty much killed itself lol.

Hit up the jungle for a bit. Damn those hornets!

Have enough to craft the ivy whip and either the chakram or blade of grass I think it is. Any suggestions?

I think I'll skip the grass armour for now, shadow seems good enough.

If you have the Phaseblade, that is the best weapon you can get pre hardmode iirc. For bosses, try taking an iron skin potion. If you don't have one, make a bottle ( not a jar or anything, has to be a bottle) and place it on your workshop table, it becomes an alchemy stand. Iron skin potions take a jar of water, a simple flower easily found above ground, and 1 piece of iron. I had gold armor on and that iron skin potion in me, and I just let the Eater of Worlds walk all over me while I wailed away with my phaseblade. He hit me several times, and barely took away a single heart. Highly recommend those potions for boss fights..

I'm going to be sending some FR's to the fellow Vita-rraria's here, as well, so we can get some MP going.

Edit:
Get that whip though. I've been holding off on crafting it for some reason, but I need to climb the ranks of the grappling hooks. There are some SWEET hooks down the road..

I tend to try and stay away from a Wiki in a game like this as not to spoil everything, but it does seem to say the Blade of Grass is better than the phaseblade - http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Blade_of_Grass / http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_Phaseblade

I've managed to kill The Eater of Worlds twice now, both times with spikey balls and the laser gun. Needed two kills to be able to create all the shadow armour.

Made the whip, and chose to go with the sword. I love the random buffs weapons can get during creation \m/

You are correct bout that gras blade. However, what you can do with the Phaseblade in hardmode turns it into the 2nd best sword in the game ;D

I agree with with your thoughts on the wiki, but I couldn't help it. I read a ton of stuff to show me what is down the pike, but nothing too indepth aside from pre hardmode weapons and the such. Once that Wall goes down, I plan on staying away until I get reallllly stuck. Though hunting down those bosses is pretty fun..

GAF I just noticed the grapple is bound to the left shoulder trigger! Have been manually equipping my grapple hook each time. Oh well lol. This will make life easier.

So GAF how about tips for taking down that Skeletron boss? I have managed to craft the hellstone based armour/sword/pickaxe, and now also have my chakram from the Jungle. Only thing I'm missing is the Jungle armour for mana weapons as I haven't found diamond yet :( (need it to craft the chest). Any tips for diamond or is it simply randomly underground somewhere?

Really want to get into the dungeon for some of the good loot that's in it. I read the goblin tinkerer would be in there, but I somehow came across him tied up in the jungle lol. Good to be able to reforge items and fly with the goblin boots!

^I just leveled off the roof of the dungeon entrance and then extended it with some stone so I had a nice even platform. As far as what armor/weapons to use, I don't have any tips off the top of my head but a nice convenient place to fight was pretty key for me.

Taffer

Member
Grinchy's covered the best tip already - setting up an arena (even if it's just a few platforms scattered about) so you can move around easily is number one. Rocket boots make that a lot easier as well.
Set up a small house nearby so you can respawn and get back before he disappears if he's killing you and escaping.
As for actually fighting him, when his head starts spinning his defence drops to nothing so hit him with your strongest weapon then (probably the star cannon) and focus on staying alive the rest of the time.

Skeletron was rather easy, killed him first time. Spikey balls on a flat runway and Molten Fury made quick work.

Navigating the dungeon is far more dangerous, died a few times!

What's wrong? A friend needs to be hosting the game, you won't see randoms in the list I don't think.

Nothing´s working. Invitations, joining ... It either does nothing or disconnects right away.
Tried the trick or closing the game before accepting an invite. Worked one time but only one.

Created my Nights Edge blade :)

Is it possible to reforge to Legendary? I had 4 tries there and managed to get to Godly Nights Edge. Only have 5 gold left, so I need to get some more gold anyway before I'm able to reforge again.

Are there any more bosses for me prior to wall of flesh/hard mode - I've killed Skeletron, Eye of Cthulhu and Eater of Worlds? If Flesh is the last boss for me prior to hard mode is there anything else I should do, or loot I should go find before turning hard mode on?

I've maxed out my hearts (have lots of extras, any use for them?) and mana, and have created most of the best weapons/armour. Only armour I'm missing is jungle as I haven't found diamond yet. Going magic looks fun, but I'll stick to melee until I find diamond. I have a Legendary Nights Edge anyway.

First summon of Eye of Chthulu, I'm killing it really fast with a Demonite Axe aaaaand ... sun goes up, he leaves with 3/4% of his life left.

What do I do when I run out of pulsating demon hearts to destroy? I need to summon Brain of Cthulu but I've already destroyed all the hearts I can find. Do they respawn?

Edit- oh wait, I can just use a Bloody Spine

So, I'm having a hard time getting into this. I love Minecraft, and I love the concept of Terraria, but what should I be doing outside of building a massive fort?

I'm quoting this because I am in the same boat right now. Though, I also have some other questions as well....

I am destroying the remaining Shadow Orbs, I have 1 to go before summoning the Eater again. Any reason NOT to?

I've gotten King Slime, Skeletron, Eater, and The Eye down, what about Queen Bee? Any other normal mode boss I should go after?

Once "you" get to hardmode, do you start a new map, or keep on with the one you currently have? Keeping the existing map I feel may be beneficial, due to when you break a demon altar and new minerals appear, your uncovered map could point you where to go, right?

I'm ready to fight the Wall. I have my 1000+ block platform built, lined with bonfires, and I have a chest FULL of potions to take. All I need to do now is make a bow to take with me, just in case, cause I have no bow.
So, I'm having a hard time getting into this. I love Minecraft, and I love the concept of Terraria, but what should I be doing outside of building a massive fort?
Explore! Build! Find caves, and see what they are hiding! Or just make your own. Your first fort is awesome...until you start seeing what other kind of building blocks there are. And then the NPC's come, and you need rooms for them. Then the bosses & other coniditions start taking priority to get more npc.s Then crafting. Then more exploring. Then, then, then....

It wasn't until I started getting some sweet loot, did that urge to keep on playing really start growing more and more. Early on its a little tedious, for sure, but that wanes pretty quickly imo. I'm a Terrarria n00b, too, as my first real experience was when it came to the best platform, Vita. And aside from the awesomeness of PC's, I say the Vita is the best due to being able to take it with you EVERYWHERE....I think that is one reason why I have put so much time on it, because I'm always just a few seconds away from instantly more mining. Or crafting. Or zombie slaying.

Terraria took a little while before I really got it and now I feel like a boss, summoning bosses, crazy items, it all happened pretty suddenly. No longer does corruption confuse and scare me, simple to plan what to do next. Guide npc is awesome.

I know super late and all, but damn it's good!

I just loaded it up on the Vita and it said my save was corrupted :/ Lost everything! I have PS+ but when I click the plus icon there are no saves. I guess saves on the Vita have to be uploaded manually.

Fuccccking Raging. :(

That's pretty worrying, someone else mentioned the same thing happened to him but it was after he was playing online and got disconnected. It happened to me once but my save didn't get deleted. Damn I hope that's fixed in the next patch. Sorry to hear that! Going to upload basically each time.

I've had so much fun with this game, I really wish they would make more content for it and more often. I'd be willing to pay for DLC for this game, and I hate DLC with a passion.

I know there's Starbound but honestly it's not much fun to me as it is - it was largely the coveted loot drops/unique items/progression/combat that I enjoyed in Terraria, which to me is still lacking in Starbound.

I hope that Terraria 2 really materializes, because I haven't had as much fun with a multiplayer game since 1.2 dropped.

Got myself a bit addicted to this. Bought it on release on the Vita, but only started playing it properly last week, probably Wednesday or Thursday. Anyway, I happened to fall pretty ill over the weekend and spent most of it in bed, and while my wife thought I was sleeping I was actually hammering this game. Really enjoying it so far, probably done about eight hours. Farming for gold at the moment, fairly successfully - most of my usual items are made from gold (pickaxe, axe, greaves, helmet), and I'm now on the hunt for Demonite Ore. I've made it to the underworld although everything down there was completely kicking my arse, so I promptly ran back up top. Having a look at the wiki for tips and ideas. I have been getting the message telling me the Eye of Cthulhu is watching me, but when I've had the message and gone back up top I couldn't find it - any tips?
