The Art of Mass Effect outs two more ME3 squadmates (spoilers)

I know and it makes sense to go in this direction after ME2, but I always liked to think that
the collectors were genetically engineered to a point where they no longer resembled what they looked like when they were protheans.

Bioware can say the statues on Ilos were either of another race or just protheans getting arty farty, and that's fine but I always imagined them looking like the statues so naturally I'm disappointed.

I'm imagining
is probably some human/prothean ADN experiment, I mean half human, half prothean

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Knew about the second (this was originally going to be the 'bonus' character, similar to Zaeed, usable with an unlock code, but was later worked into the story), and expected the second after how many, err, fans, requested it.

]EDI's body
looks fucking stupid though. For a series with usually really great art, that is some creatively bankrupt design.

Oh, and yes, to reiterate Nirolak's comment, no script talk in this this thread.

Everything about #1 is amazing. The design, the idea behind it. Only Bioware can create stuff like that.

:/

That this can be said and can be true is a sad state of affairs.

I like to think Vega is Biowares not-so-subtle jab at their new fanbase.

Dumbest looking meathead character they could possibly have made. Sub-Neanderthal IQ.

Both options look cool. I really like the design of the first one. I am very curious to what the reason they've come up with to bring person 1 in.

Also....a lot of things were said about Jack/Subject Zero before people played the game.

First character: Aw, they
gave EDI a body? I liked her better as the Normandy. It made her seem more inhuman, yet likable. As in a pretty interesting AI character. With a human shaped body she just becomes so... limited. Good for Joker, though.

Second character: I like it. I don't know how that's going to make sense, but it looks neat. Wonder what powers it will have.

The first is a good example of where I feel the conceptual work is better looking than the final design. Its like they start with one idea, then go off the rails and end up with something completely different. I get that they wanted to channel
Metropolis
, but they've ended up with something that looks like it was ripped straight out of a
low budget sci-fi porno
.

Which is probably accurate for the franchise.

Over-reacting going on in here. These are fine. Way better than Vega.

Hyperbole is commonplace in Mass Effect threads, as people desperately find any and every excuse they can to show how disinterested they are in the series.

I don't think EDI is so bad. No worse than Cortana. Sure its silly and pandering to the fanboys but whatever.

I'm indifferent about the
Prothean. The design is neither appealing or offensive. That post about how absurd it is that he's being repurposed as a solider is hilarious, though.

EDI
is just ridiculous though.
Putting her in an android body is fine, but does she really need curves and tits? It's like self-parody.

Anything is.

You are overestimating Bioware.

He sure is. Didn't they say his personality was suppossed to be based around Sawyer from Lost or am I imagining things?

We are through the looking glass here. That's Bioware design priorities for you:
EDI's body needed to be sexy, chrome and robotic (last). The Mass Effect version of Maria from Metropolis.
Same reason every female in Dragon Age 2 has this super sexy sculptured body, your mom, Morrigan's mom, your sis, the elderly, etc.

And a lot was said after people played the game, like how it was by far the worst character in the game. Having finished a replay of Mass Effect 2 just a few days ago, I can't help but agree with those people.

I like the idea of
the Prothean. Wonder what they'll do with it.

On the other hand
EDI looks stupid and they should have just gone back with Legion who was awesome.

Regarding #2:

Kinda sad that Bioware went away from the tentacles/cthulu mix we had before (considering that's how they were shown in the Codex (well it was a picture of a statue on Ilos but they'd build shit in their own image)).

I'm guessing they went for that design so they more closely mimic the Collectors in appearance. It's just sad considering there was supposed to be so little DNA left in them of the original Protheans.

Love Mass Effect threads and those people that don't give a shit for the franchise having meltdowns over any reveal they make about the game.

With what? Having two new squad mates be different species? Creating unique characters...huh?

One is a SUPER SEXY FEMALE ROBOT with bangin tits and the other is a species that shouldn't exist in their fiction.
How about just creating well rounded characters instead of giving every character a gimmick.

Yep. Not a bad concept for a character, and I liked her design outside of the weird bra strap, but the execution was botched. I wasn't a fan of the faux angst and the cheesy one-liners, it felt forced. It's too bad because they got the same VA that played Damsel in Bloodlines, how do you mess that up?

I'm a little surprised at the hate #1 is getting. Pandering aside, I don't see how it's any conceptually worse than
Legion
joining the team in ME2.

Time will tell I guess.

Gotta appease the fanfic writers!

All they have to do now is ruin Mordin and their failure will be complete.

Or: people who gave a shit only to have Bioware piss in their pockets and tell them its raining.

Who are these people?

I recognize a lot of good posters who have been discussing and playing this franchise since the beginning.

I do think, that in the end, Cortana was an hologram after all, no real body, just a visual representation on her, this is a new level of sexualizing and humanizing a character who wasn't really that special but it was interesting seeing her as just an A.I. and her somewhat platonic and imposible relationship with Joker

Sorryyyy

I don't even understand the body. Why now? The stakes have always been "end of galaxy" so why would we only just now decide the ship's AI needs a body to help the cause? It doesn't make sense; it's not like the people in the Mass Effect universe just realized androids were a thing, the whole fact that she was an AI and not an android had to have been purposeful. That goes out the window in exchange for... the worst things, that I don't even want to think the fanbase is going to do with.

Seriously I can't believe bioware is stooping this low with this shit

Reminds me of that show where hercules went into space, was a weird show, that girl was kinda hot though.

How should we react?

Maybe discuss more and less of this:
Bioware just doesn't give a shit anymore.
What the fuck has happened to Bioware?

I'm still hyped for this game and will be there Day 0 but between this and Dragon Age 2, UGH.
ot even so bad it's good :/

Remember how seriously they took the world-building in the first game? lol.
lmao this game is fucking goofy as shit.

god i don't even care how it ends now.
They aren't even trying anymore.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Get it?

Don't want to be that that turn the thread to (more) shit, carry on.

I remember that moment in the original Mass Effect wherein you stumbled upon that broken Prothean VI and learnt of the Prothean extinction. I don't know what it was about that scene - the sombre music, the lifeless tones of the VI, the way everything fit in nicely into the plot; the juxtaposition with the Sovereign conversation earlier in the game. Either way it worked; it seemed epic, the remains of what was meant to be an ancient and powerful civilization trying to warn you from the same fate.

And now this, we have, confirmed, a Prothean squad member? EDI, the AI from the [awful] second game as a squad member?

I don't really want to think of the reasoning behind it; why exactly they require EDI as a squad member is beyond me. Isn't the ship capable to communicating to the squad whilst they are not on board anyway? I seem to recall that being the case in Mass Effect 2. I also can't wait to hear their explanation as to how a war-ready, live Prothean shows up ready to fight alongside a race it'll have no knowledge of.

What the hell happened? How could a franchise go from creating moments like that to this? To relying on cheap fan service, to contradicting all the previously established lore, to turning a story about establishing Humanities place in the galaxy through the defeat of a global threat into the Shepard saga, Master Chief 2.0?
