Man, with the extra time you'd think the online would be pretty set.

I suppose this means I have to add every single person from the WO online thread onto my friend's list? I don't think I have the room. The limit is 100 players on the PSN friends list, right?

Sorry, it's late here, I managed to completely miss that it's all done from a server list.

So, with all the advances that have been made thanks to the in-game XMB etc. PSN is still working like a PC game back in the 90s, great.
There's nothing wrong with server lists. Infact I prefer them, and by a long shot... well, as long as there's a ping field on the list that is.

Or you could just post the name of the room and they'll join oO

Now if I could only get a mod to fix the spelling of capitalization in the title of the thread.

You know I did the setup at 3am while somewhat drunk. I should have realised the Gaf spelling police would be its usual anal self.
And I sent the correction first thing this morning!

Online being bare bones kinda sucks, but it's manageable. Never had much of an issue getting some races going in MotorStorm, though the lack of a robust party system / invites is disappointing.

This game pretty much demands that I go buy a PS3...

I own every Wipeout, and I've been waiting since the PS1 days for a worthy successor on the big screen...

Damnit Sony! Drop the price in Australia soon!

The online play options can be added to with DLC. Given how big WOHD is likely going to be, they'll have a lot of incentive to keep tweaking the games options, as well as adding additional ships and tracks.

4. Something done with little forethought, organization, planning or precision.

Bingo, we've already discussed this in the PROPER F-ZERO THREADS so there's no need to talk about it here.

:lol :lol :lol

And, YOU'RE the one who brought it up, for no reason at all. Sorry buddy, whichever way you look at it, you're just...wrong.

I will try full motion controls but won't put effort into learning them if I do not see huge potential on the first lap.

Depending on how well it's implemented, the potential benefit is probably in the "feel" rather than in the times, pretty much like in MK or ET. If it's done well (-> some people prefer the other method) I hope they have their own leaderboards for pad and tilt controls.

They think the tilt implementation is really good, but obviously it needs some time of learning because is totally different.

All the DLC that was planned has already been put in. So while I agree that it could be added, how likely is another issue. I think it all depends on the sales. Sells like crazy, and Sony will be inclined to do DLC.

At $20 I'm hoping that the game will sell like crazy. You may think I'm nuts, but I think this game has the potential to be a killer app. Not many games out there are 60fps, 1080p, and as beautiful as Wipeout. Imagine it packaged, pre-loaded, on PS3 hard drives. Even make a sexy looking Wipeout:HD on the box. Price it at $20 more than the typical PS3. Look at that freaking DVD reviewable version of Wipeout and how sexy that is...now imagine a big PS3 box that looked like that, and it was just $20 greater than the price of a normal PS3.

Hmm..."solidsnakex"...reminds me of "snaking", I'm so glad this game doesn't have lame ass exploits of a poorly coded physics system to muck up the leaderboards. :D

How do you market this outside of people that are already going to buy the game anyway? Retail obviously won't carry any adverts, so they're going to have to push it in mainstream/specialist media.

If they do this properly, it might even raise the profile of the PSN with people that don't know too much about it. A guy I work with, who's had GH3 since release on the PS3, was quite shocked yesterday when I told him there's a truckload of DLC available for it already - these are the people that need to be educated.

Actually, they removed stuff that they'd originally planned on putting in the game. This is from the original fact sheet for WOHD.

Online Multiplayer - Up to eight players will be able to compete against each other in a range of online races, across several game modes:
--Single Race
--Tournament
--Elimination
--Team vs. Team (Two-player team based multiplayer races)

Well Wipeout was one of the game/franchises or more likley THE franchise/game that helped defined the playstation back in the days. So if Sony are aware how damn good and important those games where for them back in the days i hope they really support/back this game up and beyond manage to make the "real" next gen Wipeout for PS3 truly awesome.

I still think its sad they havent talked more about this game in the public. Yeah fine they had some problems and was not sure about when they where gonna release it , but c´mon they didnt even mention it at E3 right?

*prays that sales go well*

Look at a game like Braid...it had really good word of mouth advertising and unanimous rave reviews which helped it sell very well, all despite not much of a marketing campaign outside of some dashboard ads. WO:HD looks to have unanimous rave reviews as well, hopefully the word of mouth follows and the game sells like like crrraaazy.

What would help too is a video on the PSN network. 1080p and 60fps. May take a good night to download it though, heheh.

Yeah i know about Braid being a good comparision to where Wipeout HD is at this stage (though Wipeout as a IP is much more famous etc).
They should have put up some making of videos on psn much like they did with Bionic Commando: Rearmed or just something to promote the title more in their OWN NETWORK.

I dont know about everyone else but i have felt really happy inside myself when i see these exclusive downloadable games on various plattforms that gets good reviews and sells wells. I felt really happy when that guy from Capcom wrote that the sales first week for Bionic Commando: Rearmed exceed their expectations by faar and the reviews was good aswell. Really, really hope the same thing will happen to Wipeout HD!

That reminds me that im gonna call 2 of my friends tonight and tell them about this game coming on thursday! , (they where huuge wipeout fans back in the days and both own a ps3 but they dont hang aound on forums keeping themselfs updated like me) :p :D

I am astounded by the amount of people here that didn't play Pulse. The online portion of HD is exactly in the line of expectations if you played Pulse.

Pulse is the sole reason WipeOut HD is my most anticipated game! :D

Pulse absolutely bombed at the NPDs I believe. I heard it did 10k the first month or so, sounds crazy. Any who knows for sure?

My fantasy is that my girlfriend was actually a young high school girl.
i would easily pay almost twice the price for a packaged copy. i hate this download shit.

one of the reasons I pay for games is so that i have something physical.

that said. day 1. the 1up preview really impressed me.

It freaks me out how many people say that this will be their first Wipeout! It just goes to show the appeal this franchise has though, and a $20 price certainly helps to.

I haven't played a Wipeout since Wipeout 3 on PSOne, and I haven't really played a racing game since F-Zero GX on Gamecube. So the "negatives" of Wipeout HD being a reworking of the PSP games does not affect me since I've been starved from Wipeout for ages. This is going to be a treat! :D

I can't believe they said Wipeout HD was a bit of a "Cash in"!

Total bullshit.
He says that the game offers nothing new that we have'nt already experienced on the PSP-games... ?!

Yeah, like it's the same thing to play Wipeout on the PSP and on my 80" projectorscreen in 1080p and a fat 5.1 setup....

Nothing new... Pah! I fart in his direction!

That's a good sign though. In topics about Xbox 360 games I've frequently read the same remark. It only means that more people come in contact with the series.:)

Gamespot is trying to be controversial again, games don't matter only page hits do.

Hit the nail on the head.

Gamespot is as much of a gaming site as G4 is a gaming channel.
In order to recieve a good score from either, you have to buy it.

The split-screen mode runs at a noticeably lower frame rate than the single-player mode, and it suffers from some dramatic slowdown when a lot of ships are onscreen.

In the previous thread someone said/quoted that the splitscreen is 60fps too. I guess that wasn't true, not that I care much, I rarely get to play any sort of multiplayer these days.
