The PS4 Pro competes with the S on price, but that's it. In every measurable way the PS4 Pro is the far superior console, and unless you need a 4K Bluray player - the best value as well.
The PS4 Pro competes with the X in every other way. PS4 Pro has the price advantage, XB1X has the horsepower advantage.
I would consider myself a 'target buyer' for the XB1X.
I had a 360 from 2007 (an OG Xbox before that), was heavily invested in XBL, all my gaming friends were on that system and everything was honkey dory. Then the XB1 launch happened in 2013.

Why is Kinect being forced down my throat
The PS4 launch was so slick, simple and focussed. It was all about games and sleek power.
Within a few months of backtracking/backflipping and blurred lines from MS, I was fed up with them. So were my friends. We all bought PS4s. They'd lost us.
So 3 years later with PS4, I was heavily invested in PS+, all my friends were on that system and everything was honkey dory. Then PS4 Pro was announced, shortly after PSVR. Sony promised improved graphics/framerates with Pro patched games, better performance and graphics for PSVR. Boost mode was icing on the cake.
I bought PS4 Pro and PSVR, without a single regret. Love them both.
But from the sidelines, MS wants to tempt me with the XB1X. The Empire is striking back.
I do feel genuine respect that MS really are firing with all guns blazing, but for me it's simply not enough. It's too late. I already have upgraded to the console I want, where my friends are and am having a great time. I've no need to return to an MS console, whether it be more powerful or not.
Maybe next gen.
