•The game will have over 50 songs.
•The songs include three songs each for FFI through FFXIII, corresponding to each game's Field, Battle and Event stages.
•In addition to 3D visuals, the game will have surround sound.
•A release is planned for Winter.
•Development on the game originally started on the DS but the project was moved to the the 3DS. The staff had apparently had space issues on the DS, somethign that was resolved with the platform switch.

Theatrhythm has three modes of play: Music Game, SpotPass and Museum. Of these, only Music Game is introduced.

Select Music Game, and you'll be presented with three submodes: Series, Challenge and one unidentified mode. These options are shown alongside your current party, listed with HP and level. It also looks like you can swap out characters from your party here.

Now for the gameplay details. As you might have guessed from the screenshots that were released yesterday (see below), the basic gameplay involves icons moving across the screen. There are three types of icons:

  • Red: Touch the screen briefly
  • Yellow: Slide in the direction of the arrow or line of movement of the icon
  • Green: Touch and hold down on the screen.
It was previously revealed that the game will have "field," "battle" and "event" stages for each of the numbered Final Fantasy titles. Of these, field and battle are introduced in the magazine.
  • Field
Play to field, town and dungeon music. There's just one rhythm line here. The difficulty is lower, and there are some more relaxed songs that require you to slide the touch pen up and down.
  • Battle
There are four rhythm lines here. The music is higher tempo and the difficulty higher. It appears that you'll be able to get critical attacks by timing your inputs perfectly. Yesterday's screenshots confirmed the presence of chains.

- Music from every numbered game in the series will be featured
- Will feature all the main characters in the series. Users will choose 4 of their favourite characters to play the game.
- You can choose the FF games that you've previously played, and also choose the "Field", "Battle" and "Event", and the game system will differ based on your choices.
- Can choose difficulty level.
- Features "Beautiful Movie Scenes" (presumably CG movies)
- As you clear the stages and level up your characters, more music and movies will be unlocked

On the music front, the game will have major songs from the numbered FF games. Specific songs mentioned by Square Enix include Clash on the Big Bridge (Final Fantasy V), One Winged Angel (Final Fantasy VII), At Zanarkand (Final Fantasy X) and The Sunleth Waterscape (Final Fantasy XIII). And, of course, the main FF theme

story:
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/11/theatrhythm_prologue/
In the meanwhile, here's the game's prologue, in case you were wondering how Square Enix has managed to cram a rhythm game into the Final Fantasy universe.

Apparently, the space between the gods Chaos and Cosmos is known as "Rhythm." "Rhythm" gives birth to the crystal which controls music, and fills the world with sound. However, the forces of chaos have disrupted the peace, and the crystal has begin to lose its shine. To restore the crystal's shine, the music wave "Rizpo" must be increased. And so, the warriors, guided by the crystal, begin their journey of music.

When that journey will begin is anyone's guess at present, as the official site does not have a release date.

Ugh. I'm still having a hard time believing this exists. Spinoffs of spinoffs.

Still, I like rhythm games... this could be good. I just hope they don't try to tack on some kind of shitty plot, ala Dissidia.

Hmm, so far the site only seems to show Cloud, Lightning, Warrior of Light, Onion Knight (the four from the scan), as well as Bartz, and a Chocobo.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I kinda don't like the artwork to be honest. :/

Still find the decision to use the KH Mobile art style a bit weird, but I guess it works well for what it's supposed to do.

Still cautiously optimistic though, the concept itself seems solid.

Since it was trademarked for the US hopefully we won't have to wait too long after the Japanese release to play it. Although I am buying a Japanese 3DS soon, I don't know a lick of the language so I wouldn't get to enjoy the "story" if any exists for this game.

Heh. 3D effect. I like the music very much. I'm having fun hitting Lightning and Cloud with my cursor (Lightning moreso). I don't like the artstyle very much, but what else would they work with?

I'm torn. While I don't like too many FF/KH/DQ spinoffs, I really like rhythm games in this style. I really hope it plays well, or doesn't have a less-than-stellar story. But since this seems like a parody of Dissidia, then I will keep expectations very very very low.

They developed Retro Game Challenge (1 & 2) and Electroplankton, eh? Interesting.

Okay, Indieszero are a solid developer. Between that and Square-Enix's occasional good taste on their rearrangement albums:

http://www.akirakosemura.com Akira Kosemura (who's legitimately, mainstream, critically heralded fantastic) on Chill SQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqESp0kswQA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmWH1hL5cd8

people ought to be optimistic.

Huh, well I'm even more interested. Gotta get myself a copy of Sutte Hakkun one of these days.

I'm someone who loves difficult puzzle games, but, seriously, prepare to get your brain stomped.

Would like more if the characters have alternative costumes.

Go go, Dancer Bartz.

And, I guess this is pretty much musical Dissidia then.
