Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands |OT| Squad Goals

The new trailer for the first expansion made me throw up a little. Fast and Furious bullshit for gamer bros at its worst.

It really is, but.. GIANT BUT.. it's still fun.

If you don't love the game already, I'd recommend skipping it, but if you enjoy the game a lot, and want more content.. AND love the wackiness that can happen in co-op.. then I recommend it all the way.

Recon-Truck01.png

We got planes, trucks, cars, boats.. everything stuck in the weirdest of places. It's janky, but it's still really fun/funny. We were laughing out asses off. The story does not take itself nearly as 'serious' as the main game either.

It's completely GHOST and the Furious, but it's still fun.

See, I still like my suggestions of 'Saints Row-con'. But that's because it's my idea.

I'm now in the peculiar position of owning a season pass for a game I don't actually own.

What tipped me over, is that two people I play with regularly have it (I'm yet to hear back from a third). I'm not not so much investing in the DLC, but the experiences that I hope I'll have with those players.

Someone up ^ said it's on sale in pounds as well, so maybe you can get it a little cheaper? (It's $35 USD right now, a steal!)

I am going to download the gold edition later...

Is the gold edition worth getting?

Also, any xboxers wanna team up with a fresh starter tomorrow night 21h00 CET (EU/UK) to start a campaign run?

Ideally, I would like to find some people (adults) who will be up for a complete run co-op over a few nights.

GT: Van Winkel x

Drop a message with the request if interested.. Even gaf lurkers can hit me up.

Hello, I just sent a request to the xbox club

Van Winkel x

Please accept me

First you need to accept yourself, Padawan.

I should be on tomorrow night. I'll send you an invite if I am. I don't know if I'll mainly be playing the DLC, but I'd be happy to spend a bit of time walking you through the basics of the main game if you wish.

I think that's too early for me on the West coast.. I think you're like 9 hours ahead of me! Belker is in the UK. I usually get on after 8PM Pacific, so maybe when you get up the next morning we can play :)

I'm on xbox and play infrequently, but I'd be happy to help whenever you need an extra (GT: Dervius)

Also, I'm not sure if you've seen the map, but a "campaign run" could take some significant time, just getting intel for all the missions and then actually doing them in each region. There also isn't really an order.

IMO the real fun of Wildlands is the missions, then all the bits in between. I've had as much fun trying to extract a weapon from a compound as I have the more heavily designed missions. Don't rush it, just enjoy clearing the map.

Yeah, I'm ideally looking for some people who up for doing it over a few sittings.

My first play through took about 100 hours, though I am kind of a completionist and did some missions more than once in co-op. I'd guess if you did it all straight through with minimal goofing around it'd take you 20 hours maybe. Maybe longer if it's your first time, you're watching cutscenes, etc.

Hey. Just wonder if someone could help. I played Ghost Recon so it showed up on my uplay profile. I saw I can get some cool costumes however when I first played it told me 'you cannot change appearance after you save'. So can you change anything such as costumes or do you have to start from scratch again.

Thanks!

Only thing you cant change is your face and skin color. You can change all clothes, facial hair, hair color and hair.

you can change costumes, you can even save them in slots for quick retrieval later. only thing you can't change is physical attributes like head etc.

Aaaaah. Good to know thanks!

Anyone know if you can rewatch cut scenes? I skipped the first one right before the first mission (starts with you in a helicopter) as I had to quickly save and quit!

The outfits thing is good, but could be improved; a way to give outfits names and assign weapon camo to each one, so even if weapons change the camo stays.

This picture doesn't get the effect, but at dusk I saw a tower like this in the distance and it made me think of the Eye of Sauron.

It struck me - cross co-op Wildlands with Shadow of Mordor and the game would sell millions. Open world LOTR game where you and friends travel around Middle Earth. Projectile weapons could be bows and cross bows, planes could be nazguls etc.

Convoys would be the equivalent of horses and carts led by orc patrols and pulled by beasts - kill a beast and the convoy steers into unexpected places etc.

image

Ha! Too bad Warner bro's does LOTR.. but really any fantasy type game would work. Or Civil War game.. we have the outfits!

I wonder how long it took to make the map? Probably a while.. reason why they are re-using it for the DLC. Beow and I flew around last night and there are some areas that are completely untouched.. We went to Sueno's Mausoleum and there were Santa Blanca guys moving boxes around, sweeping the floor, napping.. it was kind of surreal.

Narco Road is so silly.. but fun.. silly fun.

...And you know what they say about any landing you can walk away from...

It's going to be a... BOAT RACE!

And hey.. congrats on Ghost Recon Wildlands being #1 in March NPD numbers!

How viable is the solo experience? Is there always 3 other NPC following you around? Also, the base game has any form of PVP? (I got the game from the NVidia promo).

Definitely viable solo, primary role of the NPCs is Sync Shot, supporting in firefights and reviving you when you're down.

Solo can get a bit repetitive, but the design of the game makes it pretty great for dropping in playing for a bit and picking it back up whenever, there's very little commitment.

No PvP at present, but it's been a future promised feature. What form that will come in is unclear.

I only play solo and it's one of my favourite games of the year so far. I'm often going to it from Zelda and Horizon.

Just ignore the 3 AI friendlies, play as if you're a lone agent - but when you need a distraction or support in a gun fight, make good use of them.

PVP is coming in an update. Imo it's going to be really good. Some of the level design is amazing and the mechanics are v tactical.

Solo is fine. Your AI buddies are going to be bad at fighting, but good at sync shots and reviving you.

As others have said, solo is fine. Just use your teammates for sync shots basically. The game plays a lot like MGS 5 meets ghost recon when you play solo. I'm having a blast. I prefer playing solo over coop actually.

Im for this all day... It's a different beast without a HUD..

Intense infiltrating anything not knowing specific enemy locations until you physical see them, then call out the position(s) to set up a point of attack...

shits totally different when the HUD doesn't hold your hand every second

I'm glad this game sold so well. Hopefully, that means it will be supported for a good while. I'm really enjoying it and I haven't even had the chance to play with my friends, yet. Can't wait to see how PvP turns out.

Yeah I can second that the lack of HUD is the way to play, although on Expert it's arguably a bit too hard.

Two things that really irritate me about the HUD settings:

1. the 'markers' option isn't just one thing. It's like five things. Enemy markers, objective markers, teammate markers, etc. I don't want enemy markers or teammate markers, but I want objective markers? No luck, I'm screwed

2. with Crosshair on, you get a red dot while aiming over the shoulder AND you get the big white aim-cone crosshair. With crosshair off, you dont get either, making surprise close-quarters fights impossible in many instances.

Why the hell can't we have an option for JUST the red dot sight? So we can see where bullets will land without the big white crosshair thing clogging up the screen?

Another weird thing is that with less HUD on it feels even more like an MGS game. Makes you realise just how well designed the HUDs in those games are. Like even with full HUD, MGSV looks so much cleaner and more realistic. On Wildlands you've got to press - or fiddle with loads of settings to make it look nice.

More granularity in the HUD options would be perfect. I'd turn off all markers except objectives, tbh, if playing super-hardcore.

My weapon optics all work in third person view, even with the target reticle turned off in HUD options. That is, as long as my weapons have parts with those features equipped anyway.

Yeah, getting from "A" to "B" without markers on is challenging.

I might try using my tablet as a map, that could make it a little more 'do-able'. I hate having to hit the menu button every 3 minutes to check the map to make sure I'm heading down the right road/etc.. Finding the intel and items without the HUD is also a challenge (again without constantly pulling open the map).

I would like there to be options on a sliding scale, like markers on, but only if they're currently in visual range. Due to the enemies all mostly being clones of each other, it's hard in multiplayer to 'mark' enemies without markers on. "I'll get that group of tangos, over there, by the stack of tires" (on-screen is a tire dump).

The game is really immersive when you start turning things off though. Maybe if they let you select the transparency of the overlays it could be better. All of them are useful, but they take up soooo much space. Like I don't NEED the one that tells me what mission I'm on, disabled.. free space! But then when the mission has a countdown clock (like rebel radio) I can't see it! Or I can't see the health on the convoy..

Crosshairs.. I always turn off.. but then you don't have them in vehicles. and you can't aim down sights in vehicles! Frustrating.

Did they do something about the input lag on console?

It's gone, feels good now.

30+ hours in with only 3 territories taken down, and i've gotta say i really love this game. I'm playing on extreme, markers only. Controls are smooth, and the gunplay is pretty great as well. I've got a long way to go until i see the ending, but I can definitely say i've gotten my moneys worth. PvP has potential, so i'm looking forward to see what Ubi cooks up.

Finally got on tonight. Joined some people who didn't talk and ran around like rambo.

Still enjoyable, but nowhere near how you should be playing it. I need a team..

Tempted to buy some gun attachments and the thermite set from the store. I'm a sucker for cosmetics.

There is most definitely a fucking awesome game in there if played correctly.

Quick question regarding the discounted game from Amazon that was on sale two days ago. My copy just came in and it's the PEGI version, which is weird because I ordered it from the US Amazon. Am I able to play this version and still play with people who have the US one? Or should I return it and have them send the US version?

Once enemies are alerted - but don't have your position pegged exactly - do all the stealth modifiers (foliage and darkness and going prone providing concealment) go out the window?

I've been playing (almost)-no-HUD in Caimanes, which because of all the lowland foliage is really difficult to spot enemies patrolling outside at night. Have had to use thermals - which is fine. Great even. Part of the whole idea behind me playing without markers is to make the various environments play more of a factor than if I was just shooting at little wall-hack circles. So dense forests and jungles really change things up.

The problem is, once an enemy notices another dead soldier's body, they call in reinforcements, and no matter how much I relocate in stealth those reinforcements seem to bee-line right for my position, even prone in some bush in total darkness - and they're able to light me up as soon as they have any line of sight on my position whatsoever.

Is the idea here that enemies have thermals? Is there any use to stealth at that point?

Absolutely adore the tension and danger when playing this game sans-HUD, but the AI continues to disappoint. I don't know if its just unreliable or what - but sometimes I can fire and relocate and enemies won't have a clue where I am, and at other times they use psychic powers to run directly up to my new position.

I've found that reinforcements are pretty much always dropped a few hundred feet from you. Even worse is that most times its directly behind you as well. Luckily, depending on the terrain, its not hard to shake the AI even on extreme.

I've usually seen reinforcements spawn in along the road, so I always try to attack from angles where the road isn't to my back if spotted. This works most of the time.

And... most of the time I have no problems evading alerted enemies and reinforcements because I always relocate in stealth whenever I know the enemy has been alerted.

Now, sometimes I relocate and the enemy has no idea. Sometimes I relocate and the enemy rushes my last position.

Even when I mess up and reinforcements are called in they're usually spawned in at the wrong spot (I hear an AI teammate calling them stupid for searching the wrong area. ), or again, they rush my last position.

But sometimes, just sometimes, and several times lately in Caimanes for some reason, alerted guards immediately call in reinforcements - even when I haven't been spotted - and those reinforcements rush the last position and then slowly form a line directly to my new position, and when they do this my attempts to relocate in stealth don't work - they can see me as soon as they have any form of line of sight, darkness and foliage and prone be damned.

I don't get it.

Its weakening my resolve to play without markers in dense environments, because I don't want to be the only one with a disadvantage in those situations, and it feels like that's the case. I end up going against psychic aimbots with thermals.

Damn it is hard to find a decent group on PS4. I usually play solo, but like tonight for example, I try public matchmaking. Tried for like an hour because I was being stubborn. All games where players weren't coordinating, and when I'd leave a game because nothing was going on, and tried to get into another, chances were it would just put me right back into the game I just left. I know this game sold well, there's got to be more people playing? And I enjoy how it says "you've been playing with player X for a while, want to add a friend" or whatever, as soon as you join a game with a player.

Not entirely sure why I bought this when my friends and I are having a ball still with Siege. We played Wildlands once and man it is such a drag. I'd imagine it gets engaging at some point but geez.

Started today and really enjoyed it. 100%'ed the first region just to get a feel for everything.

Am I right in thinking the supply missions like stop a truck etc respawn every once in a while as more kept appearing?

Really need to get a good sniper scope as the sway is hard!!

Just started playing this today. Playing on extreme since people recommended that's the way to go. Anything else anyone recommends to do to make it more realistic or better?

So far I'm enjoying the game besides not being able to control my squad mates very well. Firing when I'm trying to be a sneaky fuck, walking right into the middle of a camp, etc.

I assume they keep appearing, unless there's some toggle that says once resources are maxed out - that is the counter can't update anymore - there's no need to keep generating them.

I finally bought the game. Amazon - not a third party - were selling a used copy for £18.50. Don't think it's boxed, but I don't care. Should arrive tomorrow.

However, I had brain fart and I posted my rental copy back. That means I won't be on tonight.

That also means I might have bought the season pass for Narco road, but won't get to play in the week that SP owners had it before it went on general sale on its own.

Any word on the input lag on console that was in the beta? That's the only thing that held me back from picking this up.

Some people don't seem to notice it though. So it might be, that you just don't notice it, hard to say.
