Trailers of Japanese indie games at Comiket 88

like seriously how can you not get pumped for this:

Aesthetics remind me of Under Defeat which is fine cuz I like that game.

I guess this means Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom is almost here. That game was surprising at how rough it was, but that actually made it more appealing, even if I sucked.

Such a shame about all the moe stuff, so unoriginal. The only interesting stuff there was the robot scroller and Ace of Seafood. AoS looks downright crazy.

I kinda wanna play Lolimbo just to see if you're chased by a hentai tentacle monster instead of a spider.

also, that meido racer seemed at least crazy enough to give it a try.

Always glad to see something from PlatineDispositif, though personally I prefer their shmup releases. The new Desunoya game also looks predictably interesting. It was great seeing the Trap Tower run at SGDQ.

Aside from those two, the mix of visual styles in Hekatoncheir really caught my attention. As did Ace of Seafood because, well, heavily armed aquatic lifeforms made me think of the Darius franchise.

Touhou kart, total touhou, touhou limbo.

Touhou touhou touhou.

Almost every single one of those games features a scantily clad very young female. Japan is creepy.

If your definition of scantily clad involves wearing clothing that covers most of the body, sure.

That Cherry Tree game, Cherry Tree High Girl Fight has my interest. Maybe given we have 2 of the games on Steam, this one might make the jump too.

oh fuck.

if cherry tree comedy club ccan turn into a fighting game, maybe my grand plan for katawa dojo will one day pay off

Sorry, are these all Touhou games or are they doujin games?

Anyway, some look a lot better than others... but definitely some I'm interested in during this video. Whatever that kart racing game is; whatever that rts is; Dungeons & Darkness; MagicxSpiral & SkyLens were the ones that stood out to me.

Some great music throughout, too :p

All the touhou games are at the front, unless you're just asking what's the difference between touhou and doujin.

So when does the Touhou stuff ends (time stamp i mean) for those not interested in it? That 3d bullet hell game gif'd above looks cool, also that underwater one in the OP.

Astro Port's Zangeki Warp and Siter Skain's Armed Dragoon look good, and both of those devs have other games on Steam through playism.

Gee game at 27 minute mark is a blatant ripoff of Velocity's mechanics

Zangeki Warp. Also, pretty sure there were other games with that mechanic before Velocity.

Huh, so the same guys who made Mitsurugi Kamui made this. Should be good if playism helps again.

Heh, knew I recognized the blocking sound effect. Looks neat, although I was hoping it would be another 3D game, might be too much to ask from such a small dev.

Fine, I'll be the one to say it!

I kinda hope the one badass, stylish as all hell looking dynamic sword fighting/duel game never actually gets completed as it is great to see in each of these roundup videos and only gets outlandishly better each time.

Otherwise, ample awesome stuff across the board---kinda freaked out by the er...."Cotton-like" shmup with the hilariously skimpy outfit for the player characters.

I googled one of the games listed at the end of the trailer that didn't have any footage; the images on the website were 404'd, so I tried the direct URL for one of the images and got a child porn warning from Interpol. Never change, Comiket.

what is the name of that game?
i'm super piqued by it because it looks really unique and i love the idea of dueling games

it looks like character health/advantage is based on how much screen space they occupy by tilting the center screen thing towards the other character which is a really cool idea
from what i can tell it looks like mechanically there is always an attacker and defender, with the chars switching sides whenever the change occurs (attacker on left, defender on right)

I was gonna post "What? Indie games in 3d? Is such a thing even possible?" but then i realised that since i dont play PC games, maybe 3d indie games on PC are much more common than on consoles

3D indies exist everywhere though maybe they stand out less than 2D ones because the differences to AAA games are only in the polish level, not in the style itself. Minecraft is obviously the most popular one but there are loads of games using Unity or UDK.

Touhou RTS? Touhou RTS.

Not the first one. I played Patch-Con (mobile unit based "tower defense") a long time ago and it's why I made a Touhou faction for Kernel Panic.

I'm sorry, but this is incorrect.

We (Nyu Media) localized them and ran a Kickstarter for the Alltynex games. Moreover, our latest release has been Supercharged Robot Vulkaiser and one of their most recent games, STEEL STRIDER (yep, in caps) is already on Steam Greenlight. Same for the Cherry Tree High games and the recently released Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm by the way.

Now, looking at those trailers, some pretty interesting stuff indeed! I've already eyed some things so I hope by the time I'll be there (for Winter Comiket, I've already signed up), many of the WIPs will be finished, heh.

edit: oh, man, Zangeki Warp is like coming back to those old R-Type and Salamander days with fleshy, organic monsters and scary stages (seeing your ship crushed by giant metal cleavers or rusty swords...), if I recall correctly, Witch Borg Meglilo (an older Astro Port game) also had a defensive teleportation mechanic but it doesn't seem as elaborated as here.

You have done a great job making dedicated websites for some of the games you published.

Speaking of Astro Port, recently I was surprised to realize despite the variations in tone and art style, all their games take place the same universe - which NyuMedia dubbed "Astro Saga", a name Astro Port seems quite appreciative of. According to their timeline, the Zangeki Warp teleport system is developed from the Meglilo one.

Is that Nonuple Nine game toward the end a Zero Escape / 999 fangame? Between the music, the visual style of the trailer, and the subject matter, it seems like that's what it was getting at.

Very few games look good, i find very sad that almost everything is about cute girls(sometimes with a bad art style).
