The GoFundMe sounds pretty futile. Why would they sell out the congressmen they bouight out? Or is there legal precedence where they have to sell to whoever is offering to buy?

Just skeptical of the course of action, and from skimming through the updates on that page, he seems to be sidestepping the direct question with "look how much data they get of you!" not how they'd go about getting and publishing specific, high-profile histories.

Please tell me this is real.

LOL VPNs wont do much at all.
You will never ever be 100% anonymous.

Not everyone is trying to be. They may be trying to be as anonymous as possible, or simply don't want their ISPs to sell their traffic.

Prospective future employers could add Internet history as one of the things they screen for. I would not want my porn or any surfing habits to be scrutinized. By them or anyone.

Is this actually possible? As far as I can tell, it seems like specific information still shouldn't be available?

I imagine hacking attempt and attacks could obviously still be an issue.

Do Republicans really think that their party is for the betterment of Americans? I don't understand this thought process. This party clearly hates people who are not rich post election.

VPN or not, trump can still go fuck his fat orange ass.

That's the thing: many either don't care or only care as far as it has an effect on their career. It is just about money and power for far too many Republicans and they know that pretending that they care is the only way to make their ignorant constituents swallow their bitter poison

The problem with this legislation isn't the selling of data, it's the lack of consumer protections. Who cares if compiled data is sold to advertisers and corporations when it goes towards improving their products or advertisements? That's good for consumers and producers.
It really isn't.

No. They're in it for money and power, which brings more money. They don't even have to be subtle about it anymore because their constituents are thick and moderate Democrates are spineless.

They'll love it. They aren't capable of any criticism towards Trump. This is a cult at this point.

I remember i decided to check out TD after Trumpcare fell through just to see how they were reacting. They were in full on mental gymnastics mode, with one of the top posts being a tweet from some guy saying that "Americans didnt want Obamacare, but were forced to take it. Americans didnt want RYANCare, and Trump saved us from it!!"

Like seriously, r/T_D is just a 4chan memeboard thats grown into this abomination it is today. I looked at it the other day and its exactly like being on 4chan circa 2008 only with Trump memes instead of Milhouse memes or whatever was popular on /b/ back then

That gofundme is beautiful retribution.

Hope it succeeds.

---people are saying it's bs?

The problem is that the ISP would never sell that info to someone who bought it just to spread it. Also, I guess it's unknown how specific the data will be such as an employer buying data related to an employee. Even if possible, that sounds like a giant lawsuit waiting to happen if it can be proven someone didn't get hired because of their browsing history.

60? How?

I thought it was 40 a year
Was there a sale?

Edit: didn't humble bundle have it at one point?

Probably, Humble Bundle currently has a year of "Hotspot Shield - Elite VPN " as part of their Streaming Bundle, at least for the next eight or so hours.

Anyone used it?

Gonna look tame next to people with DeviantArt type material in their search history.

Kind of ironic the anonymous internet trolls who fueled trump are now getting affected by this

It's expected. Many of them seem to think their meme and Internet "knowledge" makes them smarter than the average person. They're in their own echo chamber.

Can't wait for when employers start pulling search history and b/pol/the_donald shitheads start losing their jobs because their employer isn't comfortable having someone on staff that visits "ihateblackpeople.com" 47 times a day.

Gotta find the silver lining...

That's the only silver lining here. I can't prove it, but I know those alt-righters probably have the most vile search histories and browsing habits.

I don't get who this serves. What does this do for the American people.

Glad I live in a different country though- for now, my internet browsing is still private.

Anxious to see The Donald's response as they were sure their god king was going to veto this.

I just took a gander and all I saw was shit about Susan Rice. And something about that PR check.

I mean, even outside The Donald, his desperate deflections from the Russia investigation have done a marvelous job of vurying all the awful shit he's recently signed.

I don't get who this serves. What does this do for the American people.

It does a lot for American businesses with relationships to Trump. Fuck the citizens. Everything Trump does is in service to himself and the people that he has ties to.

He is literally fleecing the country while telling us it's for our own good.

I also thing he has such a hate boner for Obama that he just does some of this shit out of spite. Anything Obama was associated with is bad by default and has to go.

What's the deal with the VPN talk? ISP can still get you history with or without VPN

If your traffic is going over a VPN the ISP cannot see it. They would only see an encrypted tunnel going to a VPN IP address.

The only way anyone is seeing that traffic is if the VPN company hands it over.

However, where is the protections from employers getting access to my browsing history? Where are increased security mandates for database firms? Where is legislation for compliance?

Perhaps there are articles within this new law which addresses these things but why is it not at the heart of this discussion?
What about geo-location data? Who would want a record of their movements every day to be accessible by anyone?

When using a secure connection on a private VPN, the only information the ISP would see from your IP is encrypted data going to and from the VPN's IP. They'd have to investigate the VPN for further usage information, and there'd be no way to identify which activity profile belongs to any particular user of that VPN.

It doesn't do anything for the American people, it's for them and their rich friends. Not a very shocking human behavior.

It's completely blatant that this is a decision based on money and nothing else. He was probably bribed by big companies.

I find it amazing that he hasn't been kicked out of office for his greed and corruption

Rule 41 means the FBI can go after you regardless of what you're using to hide.

With the way things currently are, anonymizing yourself could lead to putting yourself on their radar aka "what does he/she have to hide?"

So, besides rolling back a regulation (https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-adopts-broadband-consumer-privacy-rules) that went into place last October which doesnt appear to have ever been enforced or even setup to be enforced in the six months it has been in play, how are the abilities of ISPs to sell your data any different than it was 10 years ago? Honest question here, because while it does suck that I will no longer have the potential ability to opt-out of ISPs selling my data, it seems like nothing has drastically changed from before Oct 2017.

So the question is are VPNs allowed to sell user data the same the ISP can?

I'm just wondering how difficult is it for the ISP to request and receive that information from the VPN service? And if they acquire it from the VPN are they allowed to sell our give away that information?

Anxious to see The Donald's response as they were sure their god king was going to veto this.

T_D already changed their tone, now they support this bill.

I checked briefly, the rationale is: the original Obama-era rule is a power grab, allows Facebook and Google to sell your data but not Comcast, Verizon, etc. Now their god emperor is playing fair game (4D chess) so everyone can sell. It is the first step to end the empire of Google.

I'd wager much of that subreddit is already probably on an NSA/FBI watch list anyway.

Who is Xev Bellringer? I'm afraid to search because I'm in work.

Character from the late 90s-early 2000s Sci-fi show Lexx from when it became a TV series ("season 1" was basically a 2 hour movie IIRC) played by Xenia Seeberg. Assuming Bronx-Man wasn't including the original version of the character and actress as well. Probably was and I understand, she was the main reason to watch that show.
