Destiny Bond only works if its the last move the user used before dying. The last move Gengar used was Shadow Punch, so Altaria managed to not die because of that.

Slaking sweeping Lance with Return is probably the best bet. Don't even give him a chance to use Toxic. His plant pokemon are deadly to Blastoise and Sandslash.
