Ok.. so just so I can be clear, for my own memory because it's weak...

You believe that Apple only sells 1 model of laptop, and that their product platform strategy does not benefit their bottom line? That's the hill you're dying on?

I was being facetious. I know Apple sells more than 1 model. My point was they sell very few models. It's like the old Henry Ford saying.

If anyone has used the previous yoga 14 as well is there any difference in the pen besides the battery requirement? The current Yoga isn't bad value at the moment and I don't know if skylake offers that big a performance boost.

Surface Book for me is bunch of compromises.

You need to buy depending on YOUR needs, not what Verge deems as worthy. I need a full Wintab support for all art apps. I need a pen driver that let's you map the damn buttons on the side. I need 2 side buttons on the pen, I need to get to 16GB of RAM without shelling out 3Gs. I need to get to inside for easy upgrading. None of these things are offered on Surface Book.

Yes SB is sexy as hell and well made, but for many, even if they can afford it (as I can, and need to write off much as I can before end of the year for tax reasons), it's still a compromise.

Buy based on your needs, not peer pressure from GAF.
Good post right here.

Lenovo's quality is a bit crap to put it lightly. I would never buy anything from them again.

Lenovo is actually a good brand.

Their business oriented laptops are top tier. You rarely can find better. Their budget brands are much worse quality wise but when you compare them to everyone else who competes at those price points they're no different than Acer or Toshiba.

On perk I really like about browsing their wares is that unlike everyone else they maintain a repository so you can find out the full specs for all their laptops. If you download their PDFs they are very detailed like Dell is with their information on displays.

*Internet hi five*

Isn't the Dell XPS 12 a better option or no?
Better if you need more portable unit with no discrete GPU.

This Yoga is for those want the biggest possible drawing surface with discrete GPU you can comfortably carry around. There are some 15.6" ones around but they are really heavy and uses older N-Trig Duo Sense so the pen performance is a bit crap.

Lenovo is delivering the bigger pen to me on a damn horse and buggy. It's still not due until end of Thursday. That's 2 full weeks from order. Yeesh!

Preach. I don't agree with the people assume the SB is now the 'default' best laptop to buy and that other laptops are inferior. It's simply up to the individual consumer to decide what they are looking for in terms of a laptop.

Ok so i bought this yesterday. Loaded manga studio on it and im not getting any lag, no jitters at any normal drawing speed, things pretty slick. I haven't drawn anything particularly good yet but ive also not drawn too much the last month cause work has been killer. Those buttons on the pen are hecka hard to find without lookin at it hard.

Secret handshake for team Yoga 14!

I still haven't received my large pen delivered yet, but regardless, you should order one too:

Also, go into Control Panel > Programs and features and uninstall anything Lenovo except ones that has "driver" in the name or sounds really important. On my Helix 2, Lenovo apps were really annoying and the user experience was much better after I uninstalled them.

So I've been playing with the bigger pen that just arrived vs the built in silo pen in the Skylake Yoga 14. I think the silo pen has a better performance. The bigger pen, which uses AAAA battery seems to favor battery conservation, and feels ever so slightly "lethargic" compared to the silo pen. It might be all in my head but I don't think so. I also might be being overly sensitive to this, which is probably so, but nevertheless, I can feel the latency difference between the two pens.

It makes sense. The silo pen has super capacitor in it and charges to over hour of usage in less than a minute. You don't have to conserve battery in that scenario. The AAAA pen on the other hand is supposed to last months on that one battery. And I think they made it more aggressive in battery saving tactics. Couple of times I had to wait for it to "wake up" and catch up to my strokes.

I going to have to try to order a backup silo pen. The bigger pen is more comfortable to hold, but I the silo pen isn't so damn small that it's too awkward to use. And I prefer to have less laggy performance. The silo pen wins.

That is bargain pricing? Jesus, I'm going to be waiting until 2050 at this rate for something like a convertible tablet.

If you want to spend $500 or less for a new convertible tablet, you are going to get Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, eMMC and shit screen. And definitely no pen nor GPU.

Here's a Core M Convertible for $600 but no GPU and no pen:

btw this is now going for $899 at BestBuy. Just came back from getting a $100 price adjustment.

Pretty awesome laptop for everything it can do. Although I'm getting some Intel Display driver errors from time to time. Still seem to be some kinks with these skylake chipsets.

I got a yoga 700 recently when a bunch of offers stacked up. UK pricing generally is horrible compared to the US (1:1 usually), so this was an £850 i7-6500u, 14" touchscreen, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD. Paid £550 after rebates etc. I think the 700 is a slightly slimmer version of the 500 (900 is the top end with the watch hinges). It's ok, and although 'tablet' mode is never going to be something you carry and use as a tablet, it's fine for resting on your lap.

Display is quite 'sticky' though - your finger doesn't move smoothly over it like on my phone or iPad. And no pen support - I tried looking for one but Lenovos range in the UK is really limited. I'll survive without until next year and then either get a SP5, iPad Air 3 (wih pencil support), or a SP clone from dell/Lenovo/HP.
