VGLeaks: Durango GPU detailed

Does this almost confirm the inclusion of Kinect 2.0 with every Durango?

That would make sense, they are taking a power hit to able to include such a device with every system.

CPU - Identical
GPU - Orbis > Durango
Memory - It's just different, no clear winner

Overall Orbis looks more developer friendly and powerful, but it might not have the media features of Durango (DVR etc...).

Orbis wins in memory department. More bandwidth, unified pool, no copy overhead.

Isn't this what most reasonable people always expected? Once that leaked PP came out, it clearly pointed toward this.

MS is positioning themselves as affordable with a reasonable amount of power. Plus, third-party games will almost assuredly look nearly identical to Orbis. It's not a bad place to be if they can undercut Sony's price.

Free Online with Voice Chat vs. Gold sub required could make all the financial difference to a potential purchaser.

OUTPUT - Both the DB and the CB have substantial caches on die, and all depth and color operations are performed locally in the caches. Access to these caches is faster than access to ESRAM. For this reason, the peak GPU pixel rate can be larger than what raw memory throughput would indicate. The caches are not large enough, however, to fit entire render targets. Therefore, rendering that is localized to a particular area of the screen is more efficient than scattered rendering.

Sounds like the rumour of Durango going with partially rendered textures to me... I really hope so.....

Not really, even this is just a pile of steaming rumors, we had no idea until the final product is here.

Well I think some of the stuff presented betrays a lack of understanding at least.

I mean trumpeting color/depth blocks as 'special sauce' blocks...that looks more and more tenuous by the second.

But that's fine, they're not techies. It's easy to read too much into too little if you're presented with a bunch of stuff you've never considered before.

I've only skimmed, and would need to check some specifics against other AMD whitepapers, but so far, so very GCN.

Surprised at the ROPs though. Why cut back so much on that? Would they run into bandwidth problems first?

Maybe they thought with the available memory bandwidth, and the target for 1080p, they wouldn't need any more than twice the ROPs from this gen. *shrugs*

I do not know why people are so upset about the GPU. It looks like an efficient piece of hardware that should be more than sufficient to run some great looking next gen games thanks to optimization to target specs, resolution and framerate.

I am pretty certain it will run games like Watch Dogs and beyond more than adequately.

MS will buy Quantic Dream and kill the deal between them and Sony who funded Beyond??? :D

Not as good as Orbis (on paper) but should be cheaper to produce.

Personally I want a good balance of performance and price.

Why? I'd rather pay more 50-100 euro more once if this means every single game I'll buy in the next five, six years will look substantially better.

How do we get a wash in power with these specs?

Are we missing something? Durango looks seriously gimped compared to Orbis if true.

Probably the same kind of developers who would argue that xbox and ps2 were comparable.

From these rumors, Durango looks terribly conservative. So I'm guessing MS's deal is gonna be to launch one of the Sku's at a much lower price than Sony's.

7970 has 32CUs, 32 ROPs and can be around 200GB/s memory. With less than half the CUs and half the bandwidth, half the ROPs seems about right

Ilherre didn't lie about the Wii U power...

So, that IGN rumor from early last year about it only being 20% more powerful than Wii U was true after all?

Joking, but you'd think that from some of the reactions here.

They've been going by THESE rumors. How do they go from "Durango is better" to THIS!?

I'm not saying what they did is any better but you trying to say they are wrong with more rumors isn't helping matters.

Personally I like facts, assuming gives us nothing.

Yes. I am. They need to keep their integrity and really? They didn't, it just makes them look like fools. Possibly ignorant fools, but still fools.

What you're doing right now is just as ignorant as what they did....

*crickets*.

As of now Orbis seem to be more powerful, more game focused, and with Sony's first parties to back it up.
For what my priorities are, there is little doubt, as of now, which one would be the better one.

BUT, last gen i was initially verting towards the X360, and ps3 eventually ended up winning me over, i personally do not have any brand affiliation, so whoever delivers it's gonna have my money (probably both of them will :p).
I just hope Durango won't hold back multiplatform games, as i said earlier.

not from what i see, it looks pretty damn in the middle. they're even going with the 32MB of embedded RAM.

This tech has nothing to do with Nintendo. The Wii U is severely underpowered in comparison.
But nevertheless all three are muscle-cars.

Not gonna lie, but this basically slaps down Proelite and Aegis and the shit they've been hyping for the past month.

Nothing's 100% confirmed until MS confirms it, and nothing about Orbis is confirmed either.

Also, there was a dev recently that stated Orbis is only "slightly more powerful" than Durango. I don't think we have the whole picture here.

No idea what any of this means.

I'm at the stage where I just want announcements. Games, prices, launch info.

Be interesting if one was $100 cheaper than the other, though.

It's a big leap from the XBOX 360.

Given how great Halo 4 and Forza Horizon look, I'll gladly take it.

Positivity? In this thread?

Ilherre didn't lie about the Wii U power...

I didn't say he lied.

It's just starting to become a bit difficult to comprehend how the difference can be a wash...and secret fairy dust is starting to sound exactly like it sounds.

But hey, who knows. Maybe this is old info and Vgleaks is just copy pasting stuff around the internet to try and make sense of it.

Sony is announcing their console in a couple of weeks and Durango probably a month or two after. These specs seem pretty locked. They will fluctuate a bit, but the general design is set in stone at this point.
