If it's anyone other than Hayter then they've already dun goofed, and given the fact that it's a Konami E3 conference, that's liable to happen.
I'm so excited for E3!
I just hope I don't lose my voice.
;-)
Haha. Fuck you Hayter. I knew it
Wasn't he a npc in a call of dooty game?
whut?
First i was trying to convince everybody that it would still be Hayter because he is too iconic as Snake to replace him.
Then i saw interviews with Hayter saying how dissapointed he is and whatnot, so i was convinced that he was actually ditched from the project. I mean there is a line you have to draw about lying to everyone.
Then this image bops up .. i mean come on why would he do that if its not going to be Hayter.
Okay i'm gonna call it, we're going to see some sort of video of either Hayter or Snake sneaking into Konami HQ where Kojima is, some sort of fight. And then Hayter snake says something witty like "huh ...who else?" or something like that.
I get lots of people's beef with Hayter at this point, but in my mind, there is no other voice for Snake. I will cry manly tears of joy if he is the one who comes out on stage.
WARNING: LONG READ. DON'T EVEN BOTHER JUST SKIP TO THE BOTTOM. I've been following this thing almost religiously so I think I can predict what's happened thus far and how it's going to play out. Ready to eat crow in a week and a half, or not.
Point A) Peace Walker was released in 2010, and since probably a few months after that David Hayter has been at the helm of his directorial debut, Wolves, which finished shooting at some point after the MGSV GDC trailer two months ago and is currently in post-production. First of all, I don't think Hayter would have had the time to do any VA work while he was shooting his film. A director (especially one that is working on his first film) needs to be on the set pretty much the whole time it's being filmed, and the fact that it was filmed in Ontario wouldn't make it much easier. After the GDC trailer was released, David Hayter released a very long tweet detailing his feelings about no longer voicing Snake. It was dated April 1st, 2013.
Point B) When Ground Zeroes was first shown at PAX '12, it was also announced that a Metal Gear Solid movie was officially being produced (as opposed to them trying to hammer out the licensing, it's actually been greenlighted) and that Avi Arad will be producing it. Now, there's been a lot of talk over the years about which actor would be the best fit to play Snake on the big screen, and it can't be ignored that it would largely depend on which game in the series they were adapting. The actor who would best play Solid Snake circa MGS1 (Christian Bale, obviously) would not be the best actor to play Solid Snake circa MGS2 (I'm gonna say it should be Kurt Russel and that Raiden should be played by Tom Cruise and that it should also just be a shot-for-shot remake of Vanilla Sky) would not be the best actor to play Naked Snake (Huge Jackman (sorry)) would not be the ideal actor to play Old Snake (probably Clint Eastwood???) I could go on and on.
All that said, Kiefer Sutherland would be the ideal actor to play Solid Snake in an adaptation of Metal Gear 1 on the MSX, partially because he can rock a mullet like nobody's business, but mainly because his dad is Big Boss. Imagine how rad a father/son casting of Solid Snake and Big Boss would be. Are you imagining it? Alright. Woah, right? Not only that, but fans have been asking for a remake of Metal Gear 1 right now, despite the fact that A) the story is too small and silly to be redone word for word and B) a remake that actually changes MGS canon (ala Twin Snakes) would drive everyone nuts. Kojima also doesn't want to remake Metal Gear 1, he's said as much, and a video-game remake of Metal Gear 1 would be nearly impossible (or just very bad) without him. Approaching it as a movie adaptation makes a bunch more sense. It would also make actually seeing the movie not a redundancy for MGS fans (unlike most game adaptations) since most fans have not played either of the MSX games.
Conclusion) Here is where the big time speculation starts: When Ground Zeroes was first shown at PAX '12, not a single line of english dialogue had been recorded yet. When they showed "the Phantom Pain" at the VGAs, they'd only recorded the lines for that Doctor that looks a lot like Kio Marv, and the woman's (nurse?) voice. Finally, when they were making the MGSV GDC trailer, those were still the only english lines recorded and David Hayter was in Canada working on his film, so Kris Zimmerman (probably?) called up Robert Atkin Downes and a few extras to record Miller's and the two doctor's lines, and got Kiefer Sutherland (who as I've explained is the perfect candidate to play Solid Snake in the movie) to record just a couple throw-away lines for Big Boss and Ishmael, as Hayter couldn't make it to the studio at that point. They knew fans would catch on and decided to turn it into another wacky Kojima prank.
So, my prediction (this last paragraph is a stealth tl;dr) is that Konami will announce that David Hayter is back as Snake, and that Kiefer Sutherland has been cast as Snake in the film adaptation, and that it's about to begin shooting or already has. Who knows, they might even show a teaser for it. Again, this is almost entirely speculation.
Im really hoping he does it by springing out of a cardboard box
It's Keifer. Nobody would give a shit if it was just some voice actor.
Even Hayter said in that IGN interview that he's not trolling and being quite serious so i don't see him being Snake anymore. Probably Sutherland which will be a pathetic decision.
Kojima's got such a boner for Hollywood. He's probably been pushing for a high profile celebrity to boost the franchise's mainstream status.
Kiefer seems likely (and attainable).
Exactly. "Everybody get hype for this guy who has voiced the character for the last 15 years."
Well, it's obviously gotta be somebody with a little more celebrity than the average voice actor. I mean, I can't imagine hyping up some random dude we've never heard of that voiced a bunch of other forgettable characters in the past.
The execs want to make a bit of a deal about this cause they believe getting a celebrity would make the press go "oooohhhh..... ahhhhh "
Hayter is gone, there's no tricks or twists on the horizon. Biggest proof is them retaining the Japanese voice actor for Snake / Big Boss
People hoping for Hayter are crazy. Have some standards, you know Hayter is fucking awful. You'd have to be deaf not to.
Its Sutherland. You dont hire a Hollywood actor for some bit-part dies in the prologue guy.
Especially when we've heard him seemingly voice Snake already anyway in a gameplay demo.
Voice of Solid Snake to be revealed by David Hayter on Twitter a week before E3
Will be Hayter, of course.
This is what I'm guessing. Hayter as Solid. Sutherland as Big Boss.
This was always how I thought how it'd play out considering we saw concept art for young Solid Snake for this.
I thought it'd make sense to not have any VA conflicts.
Sounded like Elias Toufexis to me.

But if Hayter is Solid Snake and Sutherland is Big Boss, then how the hell is Snake in the game? Is he a bad guy? Some scrappy new recruit that's only in a few cutscenes?
Big Boss is the protagonist from the gameplay footage we've seen, and it's set too early in the timeline for Snake to be old enough to have Hayter's voice.
So how would it work? Two scenarios, one withBigKiefer Boss in the '70s/'80s, one with Snake in the early '00s?
I seriously don't think Solid Snake will be in this game at all. Kojima gave him a good send off in MGS4.
I just don't see a scenario where they pay Sutherland to do one trailer for the sole purpose of fucking with people's heads. He's clearly in the game, so thee really isn't room for Hayter outside of some cameo UNLESS Solid Snake is in the game too.

Hayter could be in Ground Zeroes as Peace Walker-era Snake, while Sutherland is in The Phantom Pain as Big Boss post-coma.
Guys what if Snake's voice isn't real...
#TeamVocaloid
Hayter will need to step up his game now that he's working beside Kiefer. It will sound ridiculous with that cheesy gravel Snake voice and boss Kiefer voice together. I think it may work out for the better.
Honestly, I think Sutherland's "badass" voice is just as corny as Hayter's. you also have to take into account this is Sutherland reading a Japanese script - he could very well sound just as cheesy reading Kojima's silly dialogue as Hayter does.
Everyone sounds pretty silly in every Metal Gear game. It's impossible not to.
Should have been James McCaffrey.
Exactly my point. So people acting like Jack Bauer's gruff voice being in place of Snake's will somehow improve the games are just being silly.
