Voodoo Vince Remastered (XB1/PC, Early 2017)

One of my favorite Xbox games. Despite being the butt of so many jokes, Voodoo Vince was really quite good.

Great that 3D platformers are starting to show up again on modern consoles.

I don't own an xbox anymore but I am jelly I can't get my hands on this, voodoo Vince was a fantastic game back in the day.

How about Otogi or Panzer Dragoon Orta? Stuff that either isn't Backward Compatible at all or has bugs (I think I read that you can't progress at a certain point in Orta without using a level skip exploit).

All I remember about Voodoo Vince was playing a demo that felt very underwhelming. Seemed like it wasted the potential of playing as a Voodoo doll for the majority of the game in favor of just playing like a typical platformer of the time.

If this paves the way for more Xbox OG games getting new releases then I'm all for it, but if this is just some weird, on-off thing, then I'll be pretty disappointed.

I literally just bought a sealed copy of this game a week ago for $5. Great game that deserves another chance.

So many people didn't read the article. The original creator now works at MS and he pitched the idea of remastering the game with a small team and releasing via the ID@Xbox program.

I never got to play it, so I'm looking forward to it.

Brute Force Remastered up next boyz

I need this.

Phil finally starting to make a difference. KOTOR next please.

I also need this.

I totally forgot we're also getting Phantom Dust! This makes me hopeful for some more Original Xbox games like Panzer Dragoon Orta and Jet Set Radio Future.

I would take Blinx over this, but oh well. This had to come from Phil Spencer himself lol. Please still be working on the Phantom Dust remake/remaster. I guarantee that would sell better than this. Still will try this out tho cuz I never got around to it back in the day. Speaking of platformers, anyone remember Vexx? Lol

I just sold my copy of Oddworld Stranger, and that got me thinking about the old xbox. For me, I think Oddworld Stranger and Crimson Skies are the only ones I would wanna revisit.

Fuck that, ninja gaiden and KOTOR are games from og xbox that need to be on the x1.

Just port NG Black, no extra bells and whistles needed for me to be there day one. Best action game ever. Ever ever ever.
You can take your Dark Souls and shove it. /needless aggro

Stranger's Wrath HD is on PC, PS3, PSV and mobile. It skipped the X360 due to XBLA's restriction on file size, if memory serves, and a Wii U version was announced but ultimately quietly shelved.

Dave Halverson is going to be so happy!

Also, it's kind of cool something a bit more obscure like this is getting another release. It'd be great if there is more to come which allows people to try out some of the lesser known titles of previous generations.

Haha, the article states that the original creator pitched it ID@Xbox and got it greenlit for a remaster but I'm laughing at the thru-line in the thread of Phil maniacally abusing his power to get the remaster done.

Seems cool. Never played it but I'll pick it up if the price is right.

I'm so glad that I'll finally get a chance to play it. My experience with owning the OG Xbox was brief and troubled (A/V died on the box within days of getting it and a prompt replacement at the retailer wasn't possible, so I just moved on). I was disappointed when I couldn't play Voodoo Vince on 360. This is great. Bring on all the 3D Platformers, both new and remakes/remasters of the old.

There was an OG Xbox driving game that came out of Japan. The developer or publisher use to make porn games but then came out with this driving game. I can't remember the game now. Does anyone remember?

This game was decent but lost me at the
factory where you lure animals into a meat grinder

The amazing jazz soundtrack is the best bit.

Thank you for the heads up. I would have bought it and been very disturbed to reach that part. Now I can avoid it. I very much appreciate you mentioning this since sometimes aspects like this aren't mentioned by people.

Out of nowhere.
What a weird choice for a remaster.
It's cool though, I remember Voodoo Vince having an interesting concept that could have lead to some peculiar and interesting gameplay mechanics.
Instead, it mostly played out like any other platformer with a couple added gimmicks.
I hope this is paving the road for a comeback, the IP has potential.
Also, VV had a pretty great ost, iirc, so there's that.

seems like such an odd and random choice; so many more interesting titles in the the Xbox back catalog deserving of a remake. Unless they are just doing this on the cheap like the PS2 games on PS4, clean up the graphics and add achievements. I'd much rather see Fable, mechwarrior, jet set radio future, panser cleaned up and available.

If this is a test to see if they can release ports with better image quality I am all for that.(as long as they are good ports)

This isn't the result of Microsoft digging into its back catalogue and pulling out Voodoo Vince; rather, Beep owns the game and approached Microsoft with the idea of a re-release as Microsoft owns the Voodoo Vince IP. I would consider it an isolated incident rather than an indication of a broader plan to re-release classic Xbox titles.

If its sold at a reasonable price, I'm in.

Also, hope this starts a campaign to remaster other Original Xbox classics!

I came here to say just this! I hope this takes off and leads to exactly what you just said. PS4 has their PS2 classics line, no reason why Xbox One can't have an Xbox Classics line. I just want Double Fine to let me play Psychonauts again!

Interesting. If this does well for them they should try to talk third parties into remastering some of the original Xbox gems like Gun Valkyrie and Otogi.

Cross-posting from the other thread in case anyone else finds this information useful:

Yeah, I've wondered if we would see something like that: 1st-party remastering older games for 3rd-parties as a means of offering exclusive titles.

In Microsoft's case, such a move would be two-fold: to add to their Xbox One portfolio and also add to their Windows 10 Game Anywhere program. For 3rd-party companies with no intention of using the IP again, it'd be a great, no-risk way to generate additional revenue and even test the waters for an improbable sequel.

Oh, and kudos for Microsoft 1st-party exploration of Steam support for Voodoo Vince.

I thought it's weird MS would fund this, then I saw it's an ID@Xbox game which makes sense, because there are better games that MS would greenlight.
