Was Dark Souls 2 really made by a B-Team? Also, Demon's Souls 2 speculation.

Well that analogy dosen't work because "b-team" is'nt a 100% factual statement. It's just an opinion.

Yet, it is a 100% factual statement to say it's not the "A team", so how's it any different? Having a mixed team (most of which are new) while having the head cut off doesn't make it less of a B team. Seems like leadership and being used to working with specific people is being greatly downplayed. All one has to do is look at some of the most cherished franchises and see what happened to them when their creators, or those who directed (or a core group worked on) most of them exited the scene. There's a reason many people care more about Platinum games than "Capcom" games now. Hell, look at the majority of the "AAA" games that have 150+ people working on them.

It is though. Dark Souls 2 will likely be the worst game in the series behind the other 3. In fact, I wiuld have taken a remaster of Demons Souls way, way faster than one of DS2, but at least we have Bloodborne.

That said, DS2 is still a solid game, it just so happens that the series is overall really great. So even the worse game is still pretty good

what makes you qualified to determine this? (unless of course you worked at From and have firsthand experience there, then my bad).

do you assume teams are static for the entirety of the dev cycle? what about contract vs perm? or what about people in junior positions forced to carry the load of leads?

theres a ton of staffing shit that you (and anyone else outside of From) will ever be aware of. and most smart dev studios will move people to whatever project needs the push to get it done.

The term "B-team" is a bit harsh, and most can agree that at the very least Dark 2 is a good game. It was always going to have a tough time topping the original for many people, but that would be true regardless of who was on the team!

That said, the speculation about a lot of the veterans working on another Souls-esque game (possibly with ties to Demon's Souls) was spot on so well done OP.

Ugh this thread again

Yeah. It's so annoying that Dark Souls 2 can't be discussed without "B-team" and "downgrade" being thrown around. Now, I know that this thread is specifically about those things so it might seem a bit silly to get mad about that, but these discussions find their ways in pretty much any Souls related threads.

Nope, its a 100% factual statement to say its a different team, thats it. Lets not be coy and pretend labels dont have meaing, in this case the clear implication that the "B team" is "lesser" than the A team.

If a "B" team did Dark Souls 2 than I cant wait to see what their "A" team does considering Dark Souls 2 blew Dark Souls out of the water in every way and is in my eyes one of the best games ever made.
