Will discussion of certain games be banned on Neogaf from here on out?

I am asking because of this: http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=120074281&postcount=96

I basically have negative interest in Criminal Girls, I don't even know what the actual "game" part of it is, but this sort of thing with Modbot still worries me. Are we going to begin censoring discussions of certain games because the majority find the content questionable or repugnant? What sort of precedent is being set here exactly?

I just don't think it's right. I feel like this hurts the forum by making people scared to seek out others who like the same games they do.

I'd also like to hear other people's opinions on this and why it should actually be seen as a positive thing for the forum. I'm sure there will be many who are in support of this sort of thing and I'd like to hear why.

You're not allowed to make Criminal Girls threads anymore? Alright. I guess I could understand if the thread degenerated into *someone posting lewd gif* *200 unfunny reaction images posted in disgust* but preemptively banning discussion on a game seems weird.

That game looks like the equivalent of an exploitation/snuff film insofar as a video game can get.

I doubt there's much more to it than shock value so I don't see a problem with restricting publicity/discussion for those types of games.

A cursory glance at that game's content makes me feel pretty okay with threads about it being banned.

There's always other places you can go to talk about that game and games like it. GAF probably doesn't want to have a reputation as a forum for allowing hentai game fans to talk about their favorite uguu anime babes all while pretending they're playing these games for the deep and sophisticated gameplay.

I would expect a discussion of an actual, adult, real-deal porno game would get similarly locked. The TOS mentions that sexually explicit stuff is frowned upon a few times.

I think the assumption is any discussion about those kinds of games will focus more on the sexually explicit nature of the games than any discussion of, like, gameplay and gameplay-related stuff.

EDIT: Plus a cursory glance of the subject of that topic made my stomach turn, and it seemed like the people "in favor" of the game were antagonistic about how it was their right to play it. Seemed more like those who wanted to discuss the "game" were doing so out of principle more than a desire to actually discuss the game. Plus it's about molesting children. Fucking gross.

Why the worry? I think it's fairly obvious where the line is drawn. The "I know it when I see it" standard is good enough for me.

There are visual novel threads, though. Some of the games in them have actual sex and nudity, which Criminal Girls doesn't.

This isn't an h-game at all. It looks
terrible
but I don't see how it's more sexualized than other things people talk about here.

Demon Gaze has an OT and it has scenes like this (NWS) in the game. Might as well ban all NIS / XSEED discussion.

I think what you are posting is more an argument for why those visual novel threads shouldn't be allowed than why Criminal Girls should be allowed. You should be mindful of that unless you actually want those threads locked.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there's nothing especially lecherous or voyeuristic about the sexual content in those games right? A game like Fate/Stay Night may have nudity in it but it's an entirely different context. Criminal Girls is just base pornography

shutting down anime gaf will be a hard thing to do

You can't make threads about Criminal Girls, but I think you can still talk about the game. Just not create any threads about it.

It's pretty understandable. People with no interest at all will still click on Criminal Girls threads just to talk about how it's affecting the industry, how only pedophiles would play it, etc. Completely unrelated to the game's content at all.

define h-game. I think a game about sexual punishment classifies as an h-game, regardless of explicit shots of nudity. Similarly, I don't think nudity is enough to classify a game as an h-game.

Someone in that thread described how a game mechanic was that the girl's sexual moans would turn into pleads to be punished more. These girls look like they're 6 years old. I think pretending you don't understand the nature of the game is being obtuse.

Oh I don't want them banned at all, I'm just pointing it out in case people weren't aware.

Fate/stay night has explicit sex scenes (with terrible writing), as do many of the other games in the VN threads.

It's pretty lewd, but my problem with defining it as an h-game is if you do then you have a buttload of other recent titles that you'll want to start banning discussion about.

Unless the sole reason is "punishment" and not simply slightly ero-scenes. If not, then again, not sure why something like Demon Gaze or a lot of Senran stuff would be allowed but not this.

I'd like some clarification as well, just so it's out there in writing and a known device. I'd never heard of Criminal Girls previously and have no interest in it but am curious if there's some kind of official policy shift here. "When ModBot says so" isn't terribly scientific. Screaming "censorship!" isn't a knee-jerk reaction people should automatically have, either.

I see generally closes stuff that's gone off-topic or threads that have devolved into sad displays of humanity. That thread seems to have been going in a very dark direction but I'm not sure why that automatically brings it to 'no more threads about this game'. There's no shortage of NSFW-type discussions or other content that people might find objectionable in any of the million other games that come up here. There have been hotly-debated threads about sexual content in the past but I don't remember any actual game bans.

I think "the eyeball test" is pretty obvious in this case. If you're seriously confused about where the line is (and I can admit it appears to be a giant gray line) then perhaps, when those specific topics arise, you should ask a mod for clarification.

If you want to point out hypocrisy or the subjective nature of the moderation, fair enough, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll get what you want (assuming you want such threads to not get locked). As I warned the guy above, I would expect pointing out double standards would just result in more locked threads than threads being unlocked.

At least this means Bioware threads will be locked for the very same reason. Their games are no better than those pervy and badly written Japanese games.

Does that Modbot post mean "nobody post Criminal Girls threads" or "you in particular should not make Criminal Girls threads because the results are bad"? I could read it either way.

Pointing out the faults in one entity rarely excuses the faults of another. That's just an argumentative fallacy.

Not sure where you're going this, really. I just thought it was odd how it's seemingly okay to talk about actual porn games that have sex and sometimes rape in them, but not Criminal Girls which has neither.
