Will Uncharted 4 be delayed? Also, here's an assortment of random job postings.

I know, and all of the people that are saying they believe it will be delayed are basing it on what?

I said it was really stupid when people thought The Order 1886 would be delayed because they didn't have a trailer for the VGA X Awards.

Then The Order 1886 got delayed.

After that I'm not going to stick my neck out and make any other predictions about Sony's first party games. They certainly seem confident enough not to rush out a big release if it isn't ready (The Order, Drive Club).

Yeah, that is a massive leap in logic to get from job hirings to delay. Hell, hiring more people is meant to ensure there is no delay.

GAF logic:
hire people = them getting desperate, delayed!
fire people = them having internal issues, delayed!
not doing anything = them hiding some bad news, delayed!

Personally I think Zelda, Uncharted 4, and Rise of the Tomb Raider will all be delayed. I rather Naughty Dog ship the game when ready like they did with the Last of Us.

DS2 was last year, and DS2 gets re-released in a month. I think genre fatigue and the March release date will probably prevent Bloodborne from being much of a contender in year-end awards (outside the RPG category at least). There's nothing to prevent it from being a great game though.

The cool thing about Bloodborne is that it is not merely Dark and Demon Soul's reborn. it takes a unique approach to the combat gameplay that completely alters the strategic approach to battle that just so happens to work within the hardcore framework of its spiritual predecessors. In other words, one would not have fatigue if they played Dark/Demon Souls immediately prior to Bloodborne because they do not play alike. They are both action RPGs but take drastically different approaches to combat flow, defense and overall speed of engagements (as well as adding strategic breadth with the transforming weaponry).

Given that this type of experience will be absolutely unique on next-gen consoles anyway even if it WAS just DS reskinned (thankfully it's not), and given that From Software wasn't content to just remake Demon/Dark Souls again in terms of gameplay and what we have is a game that plays radically differently whilst having the same take-no-prisoners approach to skill acquisition and player requirements, I think it'll do just fine in getting recognized. At least no more or less than the other Souls products, which many today consider amongst the games of the generation even though they were not necessarily recognized in game of the year awards in media outlets. Some people think the games are too punishing, for instance, and that this is something that puts it out of contention. Laughable but I've heard the argument made by some actual games journalists.

In the end, awards don't matter. When I say Bloodborne can be an absolute contender for game of the year, I mean that... I mean when someone plays it, provided the demo wasn't misleading as to the game's quality and provided the level design/boss design is superlative throughout, it really does have a chance to be the best game they've played that year. I think the quality will be there, and that anyone who seriously wants to will be able to make a compelling case in its favor... but it could absolutely be a case where the demo and gameplay impressions were really misleading. But I'm optimistic... I think it'll be one of the better games to most people who play it this year (provided they're into that genre). And I don't mean in terms of what the "Let's give Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 8/10 every time" review crew thinks :p

Looking like Uncharted 4 will be a 2016 Game of the Year Contender.

On one hand this would be a disaster for the PS4's early software library. On the other, Naughty Dog can't afford to compromise its reputation for polish. Don't release it until it's ready.

What is 2 teams?
What is production

Yeah, I think people forget that Evan already said that ND had another project on the scale of Uncharted that was in early development

EW: Well I mentioned earlier the number of products we have going. We definitely have another project on the scale of Uncharted in very early pre-production stages. We have the sizable team that it takes to get something like that off of the ground, but it's got a long runway in front of it. We have a lot of great ideas and some stuff that is already getting everybody jazzed and excited. So, it's a long way off before we can really start talking about it in detail. But no, [Bruce and Neil working on Uncharted] is not going to impact our ability to keep that stirring that pot.

That's from June of last year.

I never understood where people got this "Uncharted 4 delayed" idea from. The teaser was shown at the PS4's launch in November 2013. ND have only had TLOU Remastered and dlc as pet projects since then. It's been slated as a 2015 release since E3 2014, and that narrative has not changed. We've even seen onstage gameplay and read interesting story elements from ND employees and GameInformer. ND and Sony know millions of people would be let down if U4 doesn't make 2015. Especially given they have been promising 2015 for almost a year now. I'm not saying it's a lock for 2015, but what I am saying is all we have is the word of the developers, ND. You can't come to the conclusions of "UC4 delayed" for a large studio based on a few job listing.

No. Sony honestly can't afford UC4 to be delayed unless they want to be massacred by MS this holiday. We saw last holiday how they could make up for a lot of the lost sales in the "pre-season" months to close a nice chunk of the gap, and that was without a really big exclusive (MCC was broken, Overdrive is niche, etc.). This year w/ Quantum Break, Halo 5 and RotTR timed exclusive? Hell they could leapfrog PS4's NA LTD if UC4 isn't there.

If MS needs to learn to spread their exclusives out over the year, Sony would need to learn to have some big exclusive or two for the busiest months of the year, it's kind of a no-brainer.

DS2 was last year, and DS2 gets re-released in a month. I think genre fatigue and the March release date will probably prevent Bloodborne from being much of a contender in year-end awards (outside the RPG category at least). There's nothing to prevent it from being a great game though.
FPSers pretty much flood the market but no one ever suspected if TitanFall or Destiny would suffer in sales or awards because of genre saturation. Are FPSers just impervious to this or something?

I'd bet it isn't going to make 2015, but it'll make that sweet-sweet 60fps as a compromise.
60fps is not worth a delay that could literally cost PS4 the NA market.

The one thing this thread had taught us is that there are members that love to talk about history without knowing:

1) What that word means or implies

or

2) The history of the company they're trying to give us a history lesson on.

Who says they're not ready? They've a small team working on this since U3 released, 4 years prior to the end of the year. 2.5 years after TLOU released. They made Uncharted 2 in two years. What makes you think they're not ready?

Seriously. I find it funny when gaf talks about journalists pulling shit out of their ass, and then we get topics like this regularly. :S

That title change. :p

I won't be surprised. Open level/world is deadly massive job. Very dangerous for small team >200 people to finish off in short time.
See at Rockstar hired millions of workers for GTA.

I really doubt it. I think they gave themselves lots of time for Uncharted 4 specifically so they don't have a rushed release date like Uncharted 3 or have to delay like The Last of Us.

thats my feels too, they've been working on this for 3ish years probably, who knows if they had to scrap some stuff in the process though.

While a delay is always possible, job postings are hardly indicative of one. The way I see it, there are two possibilities:

1. They're bringing people in for crunch time to ensure the game makes 2015.

or

2. These could be for another project. We already know they have something else on the scale of Uncharted in the works.

I doubt ND will delay Uncharted 4 to Q1 2016. A studio hiring staff doesn't exactly mean a delay is imminent as others have said. 8-9 months is still a lot of time. Hopefully, they won't have to rush and Uncharted 4 is still a holiday game. It would suck if they delayed it as I'm getting a PS4 this December.

I'd bet it isn't going to make 2015, but it'll make that sweet-sweet 60fps as a compromise.
No one cares about 60fps except a vocal minority. Is it really worth losing millions of holiday sales because a minority of gamers refuse to play a game at a "slideshow" (lol) locked 30 fps?

Yea this thread will be a good read for sure. Didn't even see this thread until the delay was confirmed.

I'm curious to see if Sony plans a price drop this fall or match it up with UC4 in the spring

Job postings are never a good indicator of delays. That's ridiculous. Just a coincidence that the game was delayed after the loony post by the OP.
