Windows 10 Store |OT| Games for Windows

I highly doubt it will stay like that for long considering even the XB1 will apparently get mods for fallout 4.

No one has any idea to what extent it will be moddable. A lot of amazing Skyrim mods require stuff like Skyrim Script Extender. We don't know if mods like that will be allowed.

DX12 games can support multiple GPUs natively. No need for them to be the same model or manufacturer.

So you can put an AMD card and an NVidia card in a box and, if the game supports multiple GPUs, you'll see a noticeable performance boost.
Thats why i said prior to DX12. Thats really cool stuff if developers will be able to implement those features.

Btw does Gears of War UE support mGPU right now? I guess there is no other way to know other than check gpu usage stats from external tools.

Isn't manufacturer agnostic, multi-GPU support better anyway?

Apparently it's difficult to implement correctly on the developer side and the results have been not so great. Lots of stuttering and other issues (very early implementation in Ashes of the Singularity).

So a quick question:

I haven't been able to download anything from this shitbox of a store for over a month. Everytime I try I get a selection of error codes, todays is 0x80072EFD. Everytime it says I either have a problem with my connection (every other functioning program and Firefox says otherwise) or there's a problem with MS' connection.

Checked a myriad of solutions online and no luck, also had a MS rep try to fix it, they failed. Then suggested I pay for extended cover if I wanted them to help any further. I just want the fucking store to work, how should that require specialist assistance?!

Has anyone else had these error codes, any succes in solving the issue?

And of course: ubiquitous fuck you to Microsoft.

That error code points to a larger issue with the Windows Update subsystem. Sorry but the "shitbox of a store" isn't the problem. Your Windows installation is most likely corrupt.

Open a Command Prompt as Administrator.

Type in the following command and then press enter:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

If corruptions are found run this command:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn898551(v=vs.85).aspx
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7808-dism-repair-windows-10-image.html

You may also try running this command to see if any further issues are found:

sfc /scannow

If DISM or SFC are able to repair the corruptions restart the computer and try again. If DISM or SFC find corruptions but cannot repair them Windows will need to be reinstalled (though you can do an in-place upgrade...)

Gotta put up some contrast to all the defense forces that formed in such threads that keep spewing lies and "let's just wait you guys"

Why? It's not a competition and if people prefer to be patient rather than throw out kneejerk reactions then let them do so?

Oh yeah, let's believe it will be any different now because *blank*. The "let's wait, it will get better excuse" doesn't work anymore.

Gotta put up some contrast to all the defense forces that formed in such threads that keep spewing lies and "let's just wait you guys"

They already did, but you seem to ignore them every time because "it will surely get better, just you wait"! People keep pointing out valid stuff and all you do is handwave shit away.

You've got a whole lot of anger and rage inside you. You're not just expressing an opinion here, you're working overtime in many threads at once to make sure people know it.

Modding, we're focused on modding even on console with, like, Fallout. We obviously own Minecraft, we understand the importance of modding, and making sure that we support that in the PC ecosystem is critical to UWA success.

so most likely there will be modding for a specific set of games provided through the store itself, and say goodbye to framerate/resolution unlocks, lighting or texture replacements, overhauls like the kotor 2 restored content or the VtMB patch, or just anything developers and microsoft don't feel like officially supporting.

How did you come to this conclusion? I don't think we have any insight as to how modding will be implemented in the future...

Using Minecraft as a barometer of their understanding of the importance of modding doesn't sound like they'll 'most likely' seek to have these limitations. As always I'll take these comments with a grain of salt, but likelihood isn't something that can be determined from this quote.

fallout 4 console mods will be delivered through xbox live and psn, which would involve platform holder approval. the UWA version of minecraft doesn't even support mods right now (which has really scared the minecraft community) and if it ever does it's almost 100% certain that they'll come through the MS store due to the way UWAs work.

2 hours later, and no response from Microsoft and I still can't download Gears. Awesome store, so glad I tried it out.

One big annoyance with PC gaming is tweaking with graphical settings and wasting time with benchmarks. In my own experiences, those autotune graphics programs from GPU devs don't seem to work well as I still have to fine tune some things.

If the new model makes PC games like Halo 5 where framerates of individual objects suffer to keep pace of the a locked overall framerate of 60 fps, then it's an improvement. I'd imagine some work from the dev end although Microsoft has this trend that if a tech thing works on Halo, then all subsequent games receive some benefit and backported.

At the very least, Windows 10 is a platform that devs can have their games work on both PC and Xbox One.

People can be skeptical whether this will work in practice or if developers will even care about doing that sort of optimization.

Does store supports download resuming if you quit store app?? I dont feel very confident since i think i could not resume Fable Legends download when i tried few months ago......

I dont feel very good about this 55gb gears download i started, probably will have to leave pc to work overnight( feels like 2005 ). Store maxing out my bandwidth ( ~45mbs ) so thats something i guess. You have wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys to go MS, but hopefully you will put all effort you can and wont drop initiative at first sign of problems.

the bolded is entirely possible without the restrictions of the windows store, and the store doesn't require it either.

What games do that?

How do updates work now for games and consoles? Are they tailored specifically or can devs write once and let the compiler do its magic?

i don't quite get what you're asking, but the tech you're referring to in halo 5 is probably specific to that rendering engine and animation system, both of which are internal microsoft tech not used elsewhere

as far as i know it's not even something we're seeing in other microsoft games, let alone as a generic platform feature

Tailored specifically. Despite what you might have heard from Microsoft (or Unity), there's no such thing as a write-once-run-everywhere environment.

I just checked for Windows updates again and saw I had preview build available as I am part of the insiders program. I downloaded it, let it update Windows and now Gears is downloading (essentially reinstalling Windows to a new version). It is ridiculous this had to be done to get this game to install when I was already on version 1511.

You're running beta software. In which things are bound to be broken.
Is it possible to pause and resume downloads later? 50+ gb is alot for us on normal internet :(
You can pause and resume downloads.

You can pause and resume downloads.

I opted to get them today. That being said that "beta software" would have let me download the game just fine in Steam before the update.

Is this store region locked? Or, are there games that are not available in all regions? I'll be in Japan by the time Killer Instinct is released and it'd suck not being able to buy it as I've been waiting forever for this port :( I wish I could pre order it now.

speaking as someone who currently manages hundreds of windows 8/8.1/10 computers, the store and winrt/uwa apps break all the goddamn time for no reason and are almost impossible to fix when something goes wrong due to how locked down everything is

I've ran into an issue two time where games would either not run or be froze on a message that says to put the game into fullscreen even when it already was. The only way to fix it after all the troubleshooting and Microsoft support help was to reinstall Windows 10.

Forza 2016 as well.

"Forza 2016" is most probably Horizon 3. As of now "officially", Greenwalt confirmed future games from the Motorsport IP goes into development on both platforms.

That said, won't be surprised if indeed FH3 is a simultaneous release like QB.

How can I remove Candy Crush Saga from showing up my library even though I've never installed it and it's not currently installed?

So if a game like Gears of War is going to install to c: by default and I don't have enough space for it, what do I do? I know I can move it after it's installed, but by then it's too late.

pc settings -> system -> storage

there's an interface that lets you pick which drive apps install to

You have to change it's install location in windows.

Type Storage in the search/cortana. The setting for it is on that page.

If it's greyed out you haven't got the latest version of windows.

Can you even back up Windows Store games the way you can back up on Steam? I'd hate to have to redownload again if I migrate to another drive or do a reinstall of Windows.

Don't think so. I remember when I looked into where/how it installed games before I couldn't even access the folder.

you cannot
That sucks. If I were to replace my motherboard and processor I wonder if my current Windows 10 installation would work fine on it and just recognize the new hardware, or if I'd lose the activated status. Getting conflicting reports on that
