That is a pretty great first thread OP^^

Honestly I have not watched anything beside Yowamushi Pedal which was as always really good. Rest was just stuff from last season/s like Black Clover, One Piece and Dragonball Super.

I am planing to watch 7 deadly sins Season 2 and Gintama when its finished but does anyone know more good fighting Animes for this season?

The newest Trigger anime Darling in the Franxx aired today, and it had a REALLY good first episode. It felt like watching one of the Eva rebuilds but with Stardriver x Zoids style-mecha and a female lead that reminds me a bit of Future Diary. No idea where this anime is going to go but it had an interesting start. It seems to me that Hiro should be a bit more concerned with what happened to his original partner though. Not that I can blame him for being distracted by Zero Two.
Zero Two is uh....she's interesting.

Synopsis

To the unsuspecting eye Maki, Reimi and Yuka may not look like ace crime fighters, which might explain why they're stuck on traffic patrol instead of more "exciting" police duties.

All that changes when Yuka gets herself kidnapped by a white slave organization run by a politically connected businessman who's got the rest of the police cowed.

Now it's up to Maki and Reimi to don skin-tight battle armor, liberate a tank, and make sure that a certain slaver learns that when you play with fire, you're going to get your ass burned!
MAL

The story isn't much to discuss really (standard plot). It have this 1980s animated sci-fi punk police thriller flick feel which you tend to see a bit in Japan animated at the time. They're quite a few interesting idea in this OVA which, unfortunately, never seriously touched upon and the ending end abruptly at the final showdown which didn't really have any closure of the OVA (except everyone come back okay at the end).

The animation for the most part is standard late 80s flare. The better animation work is coming down to the vehicle fight scene which look decent and entertaining. The opening chase scene might be the best example of the work. As for the character animation, they're okay for the most part and some detail was put on the main characters in the OVA.

They is some character development in this OVA but it isn't deep and just get to the point which is fine for this OVA as they isn't much time to go too detail. You have the MC, Maki, who don't really follow the rules and regulation and will break it if it mean saving her friend. Her side kick,Reimi, is the typical supporting sidekick character while Yuka is the typical cute character who bring out some comic relief in the OVA (even though all three plus the side characters do).

The one thing I can say about this show is it have some similarity idea like Bubblegum Crisis which I notice as I am watching the OVA. Which isn't surprising as both are from the same Studio (AIC). Also, this isn't a hard watch as they're tons of action scene in the OVA with enough story to push the plot forward. In a way, it's a great OVA to put on the TV while you do other work in the house as this is how I feel when watching it.

GREAT OT, OP. We finally have this season's OT. Been watching gakuen babysitters and card captor sakura, both very cool and entertaining shows. Btw, in south america, card captor sakura is a big deal, sharing the #1 spot of action show with a female-led character with sailor moon. My facebook page was filled with people awaiting (and praising) this show's return.

My watch list consists of Gintama and maybe that Grancrest War series. I'm curious to know if this is really the end of Gintama or just the end of any sort of over arcing plot. Tying up the main plotline does seem like a good move from my eyes at least.

The fake dialect in Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens kills me. They should really get natives to do the voice acting or not bother trying to do the dialect at all.

started watching Violet Evergarden on netflix and it sure has a lot of promise. Will be interesting how it goes

Is this Basilisk something completly new or some kind of reboot of original old series ?

Darling in the FranXX really reminded me of Gunbuster in some aspects. Mainly that triumphant score. Guessing there'll be a huge bogged down love shape, but I hope that doesn't happen.

Gintama - 343

Life revolves around food discussions.

Well done classic Gintama toilet humour. I don't recall any show that pulls it off so well. Just air this episode to lighten the mood when beginning peace talks.

Nobunobu, you were introduced as a character to be hated. You are taking your first steps in the classic Sorachi treatment.

Started watching Gamers, and while I enjoy it, I feel like every single one of their problems could be solved simply by talking to each other.
Also I don't understand what is up with the gaming club, it seems to not exist in the story after a couple episodes.

Seems pretty promising but will have to see how it evolves. It's also nice to see a Netflix anime not looking like a Ps1 CGI animation for once

The whole show is based around thee misunderstandings and it gets "crazier" with each episode XD

Also this season I really only enjoy Yowamushi Pedal and Black Clover. Todays fight in Black Clover really reminded me of this.

This was such a great scene back then really sad that we have never sean a real sequel to Danmachi yet...

so like I really enjoy grancrest senki right now as well as black clover. currently also watching bahamut virgin soul and really enjoying that as i did with the first season of the show. what else is really great this season? I saw overlord but i already forgot what that was about and i see that there is this second season of this show. I am also ok with some top quality shows whether its horror or drama but i typically only like the cream of the crop outside of action shows

I need to catch-up on Grancrest. I was quite surprised to find out it was written by Ryo Mizuno, the author of Lodoss and Louie. I've always enjoyed his fantasy titles. Also gotta catch-up on Overlord II. I've read ahead through the manga but the adaptation for season 1 was really enjoyable so I need to watch the last few I missed.

Ah, DNA². That brings back some memories. Thinking back, that's probably the least infuriating of Katsura's works to me. I adore Video Girl Ai but the manga has some just awful stuff towards the middle and a bit towards the end of it.

Grancrest 1-4

I'm just not feeling it with this one. First couple episodes seemed interesting. Now it just feels like they are plowing through material for the sake of rushing through things. I know Knights and Magic rushed through material, for some reason it felt entertaining. Being older and wiser (?) I'm going to axe this one now for the sake of my time.

New Gintama

Things are heating up, though I feel I should take a break and let the episodes build up. Binge sessions always seem to improve enjoyment of arcs like this. Gintama is on the way to the finish line, may as well properly enjoy it.

Boruto

I'm kinda liking the more slice-of-life-ish vibe this show has so far. It is fillery stuff but I find it works. I'd seriously take a full on SoL show set in the Naruto universe with a few battles sprinkled throughout to remind us where it came from. That's one thing I liked about Gintama (speaking of, this show feels better binged as well) earlier on, when the battles came it was a special event. Being a shounen cash grab I don't see it ever being as good as I'd like. I did like the father-son moment between Shikadai and Skikamaru recently. Of course terror mom had to spoil it.

I been watching DARLING and Overlod and they have been entreating so far.
I’ve continued to watch Boruto and Super from pass season and they have been good. The battles in Super this season have been good and Boruto continues to be a nice school/actition anime with some good fights.
Now I just need to get catch up on Gintama.

The manga is a fairly different experience and kinda worth it to get to see Togashi's work on it. Definitely try to read the tankoubon versions as the art was fixed in spots where they sucked during the serialization release.

I quite enjoyed the anime of HxH, even if it was a little slow at times. The manga, however, I have to say I found completelty unreadable due to shitty art and the incredibly dense/retarded walls of text that fill it.

Catching rumblings of the Olympics reminds me that there will likely never be a hockey anime(manga). Either in the style of Slam Dunk or Kuroko's Basketball. Both those flavours would suit the sport fine.

On another note, I'm curious to see what Japan could pull off with a curling anime. Go full on Kuroko's Basketball style. Oddly enough I feel a curling anime has a higher chance of happening than hockey.

Uh...is the art over all the volumes really that mediocre? Or was it in certain arcs?

Yeah, I've noticed this too. Is hockey really not exciting enough or has there not been enough exposure to the sport over there?

I really have no idea. If I were to guess it's is likely just not as popular. Doing a quick search I found that there have been hockey manga, just few that have lasted over a years. The longest running series I found was Go!! Southern Ice Hockey Club, which ran from 1991-1996. Eventually I'm sure a hockey anime will happen.

There was a hockey based jdrama in 2004 called Pride. Taking a peak at the first episode I had to do a bit of a double take when "We Will Rock You" by Queen began to play about 1:30 in. Apparently a good chunk of the insert songs used are from Queen. I have to chuckle and wonder if they actually licensed them as they feel like expensive song choices for a jdrama.

Oddly enough I feel a curling anime has a higher chance of happening than hockey.
just quickly googleing shows me there are at least manga^^

As for Pride. It was a Drama with Takuya Kimura and Yūko Takeuchi so of course they lincensed it. ITs also on the OST. By the Way ride is a fantastic Romance Drama^^

Indeed, this mornings quick search did reveal the manga. Honestly though, I'm not sure if I'd watch a hockey anime. Can't say never though. It all depends on the impression I get if such a thing ever comes into existence. May end up watching Prise to scratch that itch.

Pride is really more romance than sport. So if you want sport I doubt it the right thing for youu

Ha ha, let's not get too carried away now. Too much fictional romance is bad for my health..

I really, really liked Cross Game. I don't watch a ton of romance or anything, but I'd love to know more shows like that.

depends how old it can be. Then i would really watch Touch which cross game was inspired by.

Another one would be Aoki Densetsu Shoot this time it is soccer

I think these are some real classics at least for me. If you want to go all romance comedy Maison Ikkoku

Of course if you have a problem with a bit older animes just say something and I will give you newer ones. ^^

So, I should say, I've seen a lot of anime. I do tend to avoid the older ones as the animation style is just a bit hard for me to really enjoy. I know about these suggestions, I've never watched them as they're old, and I've probably either watched or at least tried to watch most shows that are rated over 8.0 on MAL :)

It's very hard to find any shows like Cross Game because it's not just about the romance and comedy, I really enjoyed the story about the characters and baseball and all that. I thoroughly enjoyed Kuroko and Haikyuu, but I gave up on Major half way through season 1. I've heard Major gets really good, and I gave it half a season but I just wasn't feeling it. Chihayafuru is really good, and I hope they adapt more of it, but I also tend to feel down on shows when the main character loses more often than not :p

First of all you really should watch Major XD

ok you are talking about sport animes which are a bit more modern. Let me see. (Oh I love Sport Animes so maybe a bit of overload)^^

Since I believe you can see if you would like an Anime from the opening let me post some of these I really enjoyed because of the characters

Soccer:

Hungry Heart Wildstriker

Ginga e kickoff (children but really good)

Area no Kishi

Days

Giant Killing

Football
All Out!

Tennis:

Babysteps

Prince of Tennis (older but still good)

Baseball

Daimond no Ace (Haikyuu just baseball)

Part 2:
Cycling

Yowamushi pedal

Overdrive

Boxing
Hajime no ippo (bit older but better than Rocky^^)

Since you liked Chihayafuru Hikaru no go

Also Keijo (Trust me on this one its ridiculous but takes it so seriously that it is just fantastic as a sports Anime)

All of these are really good IMO regarding their characters and matches. It shounen Sport Anime at its best in my opinion^^

I've seen almost all of those, though hadn't heard of the first one. Looking it up on MAL, I'm a little skeptical hehe. I put a lot of faith in MAL ratings, I've found that most shows above 8.0 are reliably good/standout in some fashion, between 7.5 and 8.0 is basically a tossup depending on taste and genre and all that, and below 7.5 is generally not a good show, or an enjoyable show with some major flaws. I'm definitely not an anime snob, but I'm in my 30s with a busy job, wife and 2 kids so I'm pretty picky with my extracurricular time :p Basically I get from about 10-12 every night to decide what I wanna do between video games, american TV and anime! I think I will actually give Major another shot because I have heard the middle seasons are really good, and I didn't exactly dislike it, just the constant over the top reactions of the MC were wearing me down.

EDIT: Just wanted to add for anyone else browsing this, Hikaru no Go and Hajime no Ippo are outstanding shows. I strongly recommend watching them if you're a fan of anime at all, don't be fooled by their sports label (though Hajime definitely has a lot of it). Just really great character-driven dramas.

Wild Striker was really nice as a soccer anime. It is also with 52 episodes pretty short since it is also complete. Most new ones are only a part of the manga sadly...

But in Spring we will get 2 new hopefully great ones. The Captain Tsubasa reboot and Major 2nd which deals with the story of Goro's kid. Whilstle should also come out this year as well as another season of Babysteps.

Gravity is a myth, the Earth SUCKS!
Personally I've become a fan of sports anime over the last few years. I think it started with hajime no ippo but I just was a fan of that show and no other sports. I eventually happened upon Kuroko's Basketball, then I found haikyuu, then babysteps and I was just hooked. I used to only really watch shounens when I was younger but now I hardly even bother anymore.
