Wkd BO 07•14-16•17 - Audiences go Ape, Sick of Spider-man and Wonder Woman (finally)?

This trailer is more or less selling itself as Wonder Woman II (w/ Batman & Friends)

So it could do really well, depending on if the quality is there to sustain any sort of WOM.

If the movie is good like genuinely good I have absolutely no doubts. Wonder woman alone will make it to 800m. Wonder woman and pals in a good movie can certainly do it considering how weak internationally WW was.

Was WW foreign box office that weak, overall? I know it wasn't as great as the usual fare, but matching itself domestically doesn't strike me as that bad.

JL opens before Thanksgiving, so it's going to have a somewhat deflated OW. For now, I'm thinking a $150M opening. Total is basically a crapshoot at this point, though of you put a gun to my head, I wouldn't bet on a Snyder movie having good legs.

I know some people here are unreasonably excited for Atomic Blonde. You might find this week's episode of the podcast The Incomparable of interest, entitled 'From Cold City to Atomic Blonde':

About $50m less overseas than Doctor Strange, when all is said and done?

It's a female led action movie. By those standards, the foreign box office was just fine.

Wonder Woman has a damn near 50/50 split. Overseas gross is fine but domestic is on another level.

And Justice League I'm not expecting to be huge or anything. Probably falling somewhere between X-Men Apocalypse and Age of Ultron for general reception...which is a huge gap now that I'm typing it out. Whatever!

I can't imagine it doing Apocalypse numbers. That would be a way bigger disaster than BvS by a damn lot.

Those Wonder Woman numbers.

Truly a resounding and powerful film in so many aspects.

It was always going to beat Spiderman domestically once the numbers came out after Spiderman's first weekend. That was never in doubt. 800 million should also be a lock with Japan making up any shortfall if needed.

Is it? Haven't seen any updated numbers lately. Where is it at DOM right now? 380m?

Look at the front page of this thread. It was at that last weekend. Should be in the region of 390+ now.

We looking at most probably the greatest domestic superhero origin movie ever here.

Oof, yeah. Meant the critical reception, falling in that 50% to 70% rotten tomatoes range. Who knows, though. It could be in the 20s% again but from what I see it'll be a routine action movie with fun characters. We'll see.

Well damn. Sure looks like its getting to 405m. Amazing. Easily the biggest surprise of the year.

Just got back from Valerian. It was packed but that was pretty much because there are barely any showings for it in my area and even fewer in 3D. It's a shame because I really enjoyed it and so did the rest of the theatre aside from two dudes. Much different look than Dunkirk where the audience was mostly families and couples as Valerian was pretty much all said dudes and 1 or 2 couples. I'll be taking my dad to it this week which means this will probably be the first movie I've seen multiple times in the theatre this year.

Aquaman is the only thing coming next year. Flash had the March date originally.

Obviously the Batman isn't coming out until 2019 or later.

If DC only has Aquaman in December 2018 that is potentially going up against a Star Wars movie (I still think Disney pushes Han Solo to December after 3, $1b+ Star Wars films in a row released in December)... that seems horrible.

Really happy with the DC news aside from the lack of Superman.
If the movie they're selling in the latest trailer is actually the one we're getting, it should do a lot better than BvS but we'll see. Shit, even Cyborg looked dope.

First no footage of Gambit, now Cyborg gets canceled. WORSE SDCC ever

Eh, Cyborg will probably have a big part in Flashpoint.

This is why I felt they'd put something in there.

Pretty sure the March 2018 date was given to Tomb Raider ages ago.

Though think rumor is it may now take the summer DC film slot since don't think anything else big from WB in that time?

At this point, nothing good have ever used the name Flashpoint

I...liked the first episode of Flash S3 pretty well. I didn't like most of the rest of the season, but it was an interesting inversion of the series, I felt, even with 'The Rival,' which was literally the dumbest thing ever.
