Not being embarrassed of being a superhero movie probably helped with that. Thank the lord Apocalypse is Bryan Singer's last X-Men movie. The fact that Deadpool is bodying the X-men movies is reconning me into being a Deadpool fan.
I need to watch more A24 films. I wasn't able to see the Witch this weekend because I was too busy hanging with some friends. They made Ex Machina, right?
If Deadpool reaches 500m worldwide, then that is incredible and well deserved.
Yeeessssssss, loved that film.
And wow at Deadpool, dayum almost $500M
I don't know. If it does, it will be a squeaker.Question is whether Deadpool will deliver the last lick to Jesus' backside on his way past the Passion of the Christ for all-time domestic R-rated.
It certainly will.
There's a chance Deadpool is going to be the highest domestic grossing superhero barring Batman, Iron Man, and Raimi Spider-Man. That's incredible really. I'm excluding Captain America and Superman since Iron Man/Batman carry jobs don't count.

I saw Anomalisa on Friday night. It has like a 92% on RT, the movie was so bad. Fuck RT.

They don't.The fuck they don't...
Either way no denying outstanding performance for DP, even without some spin...

What does this mean?
When Captain America and Superman can gross over $350 million domestic without Iron Man or Batman holding their hands, it'll mean something.
It's crazy to me the X-Men film franchise isn't bigger than it is. That was THE comic book IP of the 90s/early 2000s after Schumacher nearly killed Batman's relevancy.
So because of the costumes?Black leather fetish of the X-men movies
It's also very true.That's cute.

Isn't that kinda what happened with Crimson Peak, too?
X-men and X-2 both did fantastic at the time.
Last Stand and Origins basically killed all the momentum.
X3 and Origins killed momentum. First Class came out to revive the franchise with some success but Marvel had already established themselves as a movie company bringing out some serious competition where every other company making comic movies had to catch up. The X-Men also don't have any toys and cartoons thanks to Marvel. Barely any brand awareness in the public eye. Shit, Marvel is actually trying to make Gwenpool into a thing. It's crazy to me the X-Men film franchise isn't bigger than it is. Days of Future Past also did incredibly well. It would've been the highest grossing superhero movie worldwide in 2014 had Guardians not become such a success. It was still the biggest superhero movie internationally though. The franchise seems to be on an upward trajectory but I think it's the domestic gross that really needs to be better. There's no Wolverine this time though which has to hurt its potential at least a little.X-men and X-2 both did fantastic at the time.

Should've made Tropic Thunder 2 instead of Zoolander 2; Deadpool is adamantium steel.
Deadpool hold this weekend was well within the genre norm, but I don't think it was high enough to put it where it needed to be to take down Passion. We'll see next weekend I suppose, but as it stands, Deadpool's drop was in the same range as Furious 7's second weekend while its total still lags F7's by $15M. Furious 7 ended up with $353M domestic.

The superhero movies are grossing a lot this year. Deadpool is probably going to fall around $330-340 million at the rate it's going. BvS is most definitely going to do incredibly well domestically, and I think word of mouth is going to be very strong for it. Iron Man will probably ensure Civil War crosses the $400 million mark.
That's a lot of box office back to back with superheroes. Apocalypse comes right after Civil War. I think it's two weeks apart. If it can manage to cross $300 million, I think that would be pretty amazing.
Fox must be ecstatic.

I'm skeptical about Warcraft being much of a factor (that trailer ran to stone cold silence in the one theater I've seen it in so far); the others will be, to varying degrees. Doing as well as DOFP sans Jackman would be the first bar to clear, I think.Apocalypse has a really tough slot to work through. It has to contend with TMNT2 the following weekend, and Warcraft the week after that, and then Finding Dory the week after that, and then Fox will surely pull it from a good chunk of theaters to make room for Independence Day: Resurgence the week after that one. The cards are stacked against it, to say the least.
I don't think that follows. Well-received franchises build off the reception of previous entries, and so far Apocalypse has generated much more buzz than DOFP did at the equivalent time. They'll have a hard enough time hitting $200M much less $300M. If the X-Men film franchise was going to blow up domestically, it would have been with Days of Future Past.
It's already at $490 million after just 2 weeks. $700 million possibility?

I'm not entirely sure how you come to this conclusion. It's not going to have a tough time hitting $200 million. That's less likely than it hitting $300 million. It managed over $200 million in 2014 with Maleficent opening the week after it, and that's likely tougher competition than Turtles this year. They had an uphill battle after X3 and Origins, but they're much better positioned as a franchise today than they were back then. Days of Future Past grossed $87 million more than First Class did domestically. Days of Future Past did well, even if it didn't "blow up".They'll have a hard enough time hitting $200M much less $300M. If the X-Men film franchise was going to blow up domestically, it would have been with Days of Future Past. I think Dr. Strange might outgross Apocalypse which is pretty crazy.

Yeah, are people really thinking Warcraft is going to be a big deal?
It looks like the most generic fantasy movie of all time, when the market has moved on from generic fantasy movies. Nothing in that trailer was the least bit interesting.
