WWE 2K16 - First Gameplay Details (IGN)

They really should start doing 2 wrestling games, maybe alternate them each year, so they can have a 2 year development cycle and not rush them.

1 - Sim type game like the what we have now.

2 - Arcade type, over the top, crazy fun game like the old Smackdown games.

I miss diving off the Titantron or the top of the truck in the back stage parking lot areas and doing crazy shit like that.

No offense, but who is the public these games are meant for?

There is a small but dedicated
and delusional
fanbase that is really into them.

That plus I guess people who want a WWE game for their kid and dont know any better.

These are not big sellers by any means.

Okay, here is IGN's Preview history with the "Smackdown" series going back a few years. I have noticed that every year there is hope...

I actually thought the gameplay of 2k15 was a step up from 2k14. What hurt 2k15 was the lack of all of the other shit that made 2k14 tolerable

I'm really hoping for custom music for 2K16. I'm willing to buy this game if they implement that feature. I want to have Brock Lesnar come out to Katamari Damacy music.

I still look forward to the reveal of these games every year at Summerslam and Gamescom. It's always a good time for better or worse lol. I hope all the creation modes are fully fleshed out this time. Create a belt I love. As long as I can make belts that don't look like shit.

I can't believe they left the chain wrestling stuff in. I can't believe they think that anyone thought that was good

I would love this. I miss the original Smackdown series.

Its a yearly tradition to read a IGN review of a WWE/Smackdown game how "this years release is the turning point that fans have been wanting", and then 8 months later "last years game was not a huge improvement BUT THIS TIME!"

They have been doing it i believe since Just Bring It, which is absurd. They have been doing it longer than some John Cena fans have been alive.

I watched 12 seconds of this, and its obvious its the same shitty engine that plagued all the other releases.

"If you dont like it dont buy it!"

Oh dont you worry, i wont.

I don't know why these games have to come out in October every year. They should come out in March or April when Wrestlemania is going on. Instead they release it every year to get slaughtered by other AAA games.

If Yukes had the time, they could come out with a decent product. Look at UFC 3.

Slaughtered?

Game sells well.

I will give Yuke's the benefit of the doubt and hope they actually improve their new system. I kinda liked what I read in that article. Thanks for that!

Crowd seems disjointed once again to anything that is happening. The crowd ambient noise still sounds like shit.

That's my biggest issue with this. Finn's entrance looks great when it's just him, but as soon as they pan out to the crowd, there's no alignment and it makes the whole thing look off.

Why they haven't taken any time to address the lack of coordination between the crowd animations and what's happening in the ring is beyond me. Really cheapens the whole presentation.

It's trending on Facebook right now, but yeah after last year I think this will be the lowest sales they've managed yet.

Well last year smashed expectations apparently. This year will probably see how people received that version outside of reviewers.

I still think the staggered release of gens helped the fanatics bring the sales up/

These are not big sellers by any means.

Compared to Madden, FIFA, COD or GTA, they don't sell well, but they do manage to sell around 2-3 million copies across all platforms. Not huge hits, but pretty decent.

limited-but-regenerative reversals sounds like a great idea. I haven't played since 13, but I hated how often the AI would no-sell moves due to reversals

still no buy, though, especially since there's no confirmed PC release. The option was (is?) on the official site on the preorder page, but that could just be a placeholder. I could also see them revealing the PC version closer to release. Or they could just do the same shit as last year and sit on it for 6 months to maximize console sales, since they're STILL doing last-gen versions.

It also droped in price fairly quickly. A lot of D1 sales, but a lot of trade in too. Who knows though... This train may be incapable of a derail.

My biggest question is will these reversals be enforced on the AI side as well? Or is this just going to lead to even worse rubberbanding when you're trying to close out some stupidly specific objective in a match?

I would hope so! It sounds to me like it'll work similar to finishers, so it could be a hud element.

EDIT: this video seems to confirm that it'll be on the hud, as you can see a segmented bar on the hud

It's not a Yukes thread without BoboBrazil. >(

I have a lot of fun with these games every year despite their issues so I'll be getting this one as well, but that Balor entrance looks really, really off for some reason.

I just found this thread. That footage is from the PS3 version right?

On a side note, another year another failed WWE game. I thought I was gonna get to play a wrestling game and not a rotate the stick into oblivion challenge-a-thon. Yukes=worst game developer on the planet. I would rather Rovio make the WWE game.

It bothers me the crowd doesn't react like they do in nxt and raise their arms. Must be in a boring city or he isn't over.

Yeah, the crowd is so into it they're staring into space.

The designers are just incapable of recreating the best aspects of professional wrestling.

The audio from that video is just terrible too. It sounds like a dark show audience watching two jobbers... No pops, no cheers, nothing. Just a looping audio track. Maybe it's early, but the fact is, the audio has been the same for years, so I doubt it.
