WWE 2K16 - First Gameplay Details (IGN)

I wonder how much sales the PS3 and X360 sales rake in. 2K is doing it for the NBA series as well.

Only thing I'm curious about mostly is the 'overhauled' online they detailed.

I mean, to me, the online was overhauled last year. In WWE 2K14 they went from a simplistic lobby system where you can pick your own match type, customize its settings from countout time, turning off pinfall/submission/knockout, etc. and picking your characters on the actual match page to this pre-determined, behind the wall matchmaking setup. Want to play a tag match with a friend? Well, better find two more people. Want to do a Triple Threat Cage match? Find one more friend. It's shit. 2K did this with Evolve too.

Rather than picking, and customizing (which they nixed last year) your matches and characters on demand, it was all done in a menu prior to entering the Matchmaking process. No entrances, either, at all. And one of the shittiest aspects of it, 2K used this method of finding people so problematic, if you canceled the search or 'match' they found, it completely cancels the match altogether so those people who were searching on the other end(s), have to re-do it all over again. 2K and online is still miles to go which is bizarre considering they started online with their games in 2002 and have barely stepped up in their netcode, customization, and functionality.

2K needs to get with the times.

After so many years I have no faith nor hope in this company making a good WWE game.

Certainly not current gen.

I hope they get rid of OMG moments and the stupid requirements to open up the cell. Some decent collision detection and good table/ladder physics is all I can ask for.

Keep dreaming. You are asking for them to do things to make the game better. Maybe ask them to create a rotate the stick mini game for running and you might get your wish.

It will never be a good game as long as Yukes is making it.
Yep. As long as Yukes is at the helm of developing these games, you can keep expecting the same level of execution year after year. It starts with them, obviously.

I don't know what Yukes' contract looks like for developing future WWE games, but man I really hope maybe this year the sales take a bit of a dive and 2K finally takes them off these games. I feel awful for saying that about a dev studio but fuck, they've had all the opportunity in the world to prove themselves and instead they've been coasting on complete mediocrity and far less than that for years now.

I know that won't happen because for whatever reason people buy into these games every year despite the low quality of previous efforts. Wrestling fans are passionate and invested, they deserve so much more than what is currently being offered.

Still looks like a PS3 title with shit commentary. No thanks.

2K should fire Yukes already if they want to be serious about making this a big franchise like FIFA.

Goddamn, they couldn't even go through the effort to get the same camera angles that are normally used for Rollins entrance (like the camera panning over to the WWE logo before panning to Rollins)? FFS Yukes.

But why am I surprised, this is the same Yukes that didn't even give Steve Austin his vest for his entrance last year

Create A Show seems to be an Arena Editor for the in-game arenas. To be honest I cant to see that next gen gets both CAArena and CAShow, and not split like how next gen gets MyCareer and last gen gets Who Got NXT? Mode.

It's basically for editing graphics and name plates. Not too exciting. Not too bad either.

People looking for their Fire Pro fix should remember that Fire Pro returns is available on PS3.

what masterful dodging of that "will there be a PC version" question

Indeed. The interviewer sucks too. They say that create a diva is back and that create a superstar is improved, but is it going to be as good as 2K14's? Or is it going to be as awful and limited as 2K15's? Adding three new pants when 90% of the CAW features are still missing isn't much of an improvement.

PUBLISHER: 2K

FEATURE SUMMARY

Largest Roster Ever: Offering more than 120 unique playable characters, including cover Superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin alongside Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Bad News Barrett, Paige and Finn Bálor, WWE 2K16 includes the largest roster in WWE games history
The roster contains an unprecedented combination of current WWE Superstars and Divas, emerging NXT talent, WWE Hall of Famers and WWE alumni from multiple eras

Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator: Fans who pre-order WWE 2K16 at any participating retailer will receive two exclusive playable versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator:
T-800 from The Terminator and T-800 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day
2K Showcase: The franchise’s popular story-based mode returns in WWE 2K16, enabling players to relive iconic matches and moments in WWE history. Along the way, they will complete objectives to unlock legendary characters, entrance and ring gear, match types and unlockables.
MyCareer: The franchise’s career-driven mode, now in its second year, will see players define their legacies by making critical choices while rising through the ranks from NXT to WWE to earn a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame. In addition, they will train, compete against others, conduct personality-driven interviews, interfere with rivals and/or form the ultimate tag team.
Creation Suite: Building on last year’s foundation, WWE 2K16’s Creation Suite deepens the player’s arsenal with new feature options, including Create a Diva, Create a Championship, Create an Arena, and Create a Show. Key improvements have also been made to existing fan-favorite offerings, including Create a Superstar, Create an Entrance, Superstar Studio and Community Creations.
WWE Universe: WWE 2K16 makes core improvements to stories, rivals and match card selections. In addition, for the first time, Superstars can be assigned to multiple shows, enabling players to have a broader experience.

Online: Completely overhauled based on fan feedback, WWE 2K16 will provide users with multiple ways to play online with the WWE Games community, including an improved matchmaking system

Soundtrack: Players can customize their in-game music through the addition of Superstar entrance music to the WWE 2K16 Jukebox. Additional in-game music will be announced later this year.

Gameplay Improvements: WWE 2K16 will build upon last year’s foundation, including key enhancements and innovations based on critical and consumer feedback, to deliver the strongest WWE gameplay experience to date:

Improved Controls: The controls and move library were overhauled to cleanly separate strikes from grapples. This change provides players with more control over the exact type of attacks they want to initiate in every situation. WWE 2K16 also includes new attack positions, such as seated, to increase options for how players attack while experiencing greatly improved attacks outside the ring near barricades. Opponents will now react more accurately to their environment.
New Reversal System: The reversal system has been reworked to improve the overall flow of the match and also create a new level of strategy during the matches. Each Superstar has a limited number of reversals he or she can perform that recharge over time, meaning players might not want to simply try and reverse every attack. In addition, WWE 2K16 introduces Major and Minor reversals for select moves. Minor reversals are easier to perform and only require a single reversal stock. Major reversals are more challenging to perform; however, they yield a much greater reward than damage. Successful Major Reversals weaken the opponent in various ways and provide a new way to swing the momentum of the match in one’s favor.
New Pin System: The new pin system starts with an entirely new pin mini-game and offers a variety of new pin variations and reactions. If the opponent kicks out, a Superstar may react to the near pin fall and gesture to the referee in frustration. In addition, WWE 2K16 introduces dirty pins and rope breaks. Dirty pins allow players to use the ropes to their advantage to try and pin their opponents. There is a chance the referee may see this and call off the pin attempt. Rope Breaks are another way to get out of pin attempt but rely on the referee seeing the player grab the ropes. In line with WWE live events and programming, there is no guarantee what the referee is going to see during a match.
Chain Wrestling: New positions and attributes allow players to distinguish Superstars from one other. There can also be ties during a lockup; during the tie, there can be a clean break from the tie-up or a cheap shot from either the player or the opponent.
Working Holds: Working holds are new for WWE 2K16 and provide players with a way to regain stamina while depleting their opponents’ stamina. Just like on WWE programming, Working Holds provide a way to collect one’s self in the middle or late part of a match and prepare for the next plan of attack.
Improved AI: WWE 2K16 sees big improvements to the AI for Superstars, referees and managers. For example, managers can now engage during matches by either trying to distract the referee or get his attention to help out in the match. In addition, significant changes are included for match-specific AI, including Tag Team matches.
More Match Types: Many match types of been added for WWE 2K16, including Ladder, handicap and tornado tag matches.
Dynamic Entrances: With the improved presentation flow for matches, players are now able to take control of their Superstars during the entrances and have the option to attack their opponents before the match even starts. Why wait for the bell? In WWE 2K16, players can decide when they are ready for action.

Additional Improvements: WWE 2K16 also includes an improved Submission system and a vast number of new moves to create an even more engaging gameplay experience.

Overall Enhancements: WWE 2K16 improves upon authenticity across the board, including:

New Commentary Team: For the first time, a three-man team is now a part of the franchise, with John “Bradshaw” Layfield, new to WWE 2K16 joining returning commentators Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler. Thousands of new lines were recorded, primarily in side by side studio sessions, ensuring authentic interactions among the trio.
Visual Upgrades: This year’s title features several thousand new animations. WWE Superstar and Diva appearance are also been updated, including implementation of a full cloth physics system, enabling attire to appear and respond as realistically as possible. Improved crowd variety, as well as more realistic sweat, better hair and hair physics round out the visual enhancements.
Broadcast Presentation: Gone are loading screens between entrances and the start of matches; instead, the camera pans the arena and over to the commentary team for thoughts on the upcoming match. Significant improvements were also made to overall match presentation and flow, including new crowd members.

Quoted for those who don't want to click the link.

Edit: It's hilarious that they listed the option to use superstar soundtrack in menus as a feature. That's basically there to make people think there is custom soundtrack.

Unlockable match types via Showcase? That could be annoying.

I am pretty sure this isn't the first time they have introduced dirty pins. lol.

So what's the difference between a Creative-a-Wrestler and Create-a-Diva modes? I mean, they already locked the same gender thing for matches...

I actually kinda dig the kayfabe approach.

They are highlighting the fact that it's back since it was missing in 2k15.

I noticed they have improved hair and cloth physics listed. We'll see.

So they're going to treat shit that was in previous games before it was removed last year as new features again aren't they? It would've be the first, second or third time that's been done.

Almost full roster leaked by ign (story by what culture). Has a picture of the roster and also list the divas that aren't on the main page. Don't know if anyone has seen this yet but I was suprised by a couple of wrestlers.

Shane McMahon!

Too bad getting Angle wouldn't be possible.

Edit: I'm not seeing the actual roster pic in the video. I am debating on whether or not this is real. Maybe I just missed it or they edited it out.

Edit 2: Yeah, it's fake. Check the comments.

According to some of the comments they removed it, that's why they are just awkwardly sitting there talking

Yeah I see what you are saying now...I'll change to take with a grain of salt probably fake

I see that now, I'm just dying for information. Looks like the wrestlers don't all match to the picture so it could still possibly have some truth in it but I doubt it. They main thing that looks like a flag to me is bubba Ray since he just went back to tna
Bubba Ray left TNA once again in late July.

TNA has changed all of the wrestler contracts, they no longer pay people monthly for being on the roster, they only get paid for making appearances. Caused a lot of their bigger guys to leave in the past few weeks.

I meant in terms of wwe putting someone in their game that was just seen elsewhere. They get really weird about that. They definitely need more tag teams in the game just like in the actual product.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?
Tried the last of my patience with the last game.

Not paying money for less features and a poorer game again.

They've made a really huge change in their attitude towards wrestling that exists outside of WWE this year. Something I'm sure Haitch has initiated since Vince still doesn't even watch his own NXT product, let alone being aware of what goes own in other feds. HHH is a legit wrestling fan and is doing the kind of things he wants to see as a fan now, a nice and welcome change of pace for sure.

Through out the Beast in the East special Michael Cole was mentioning where all of the NXT guys spent time (ROH, NJPW, Dragon Gate).

They still hate TNA but they are obviously not any kind of threat to them at this point, it's a little more lax now.

Sadly I've put a ton of hours into the game because I usually just play for exhibition matches. It looks like they are on the right track with this one but only time will tell. Most excited for the new reversal bar/system because when I play with my friend the entire match is just reversals till someone misses and gets hit with a finisher.
