Yes I am joking, fairies come and communicate your prl info, user info, plan info...All cell phones need to be connected to the internet to do the initial setup? What? You're joking, right?

Um, yep. Can't play multiplayer without PS4's patch. Can't play Blu-rays either.
Um, nope.
Well so you're telling me that you won't be updating your PS4 immediately? You'll play all the games first?
Double standards, wow.
The PS4 can't do much out of the box either without an update. But far fewer people were complaining about that in that respective thread. The PS4 can't even play a bluray without the update!!!
And people saying, yes but the PS4 can play games out of the box. Well so you're telling me that you won't be updating your PS4 immediately? You'll play all the games first? Sure, if the games you're playing don't require an update before playing!
Mountain out of a molehill indeed
What? Cellphones are always connected? So anti consumer...
Simple questions. Why do you buy a mobile phone? And why do you buy a games console? Which one inherently requires a network to perform its function?Yes I am joking, fairies come and communicate your prl info, user info, plan info...
what games require an update before playing them?Sure, if the games you're playing don't require an update before playing!
I can install it while playing a game which is the reason I bought a game console.
Versus
I cant do anything until I download and install this unkown sized update, which may or may not be long depending on my internet.
I can see which one is easier.
False equivalency.
Besides, retailers will set up your phone for you. This would only be the same situation if retailers will set up your Xbox for you at the store.
I'm not saying this is as big a deal as some people are making it out to be. I'm saying that it's pretty shitty of people to downplay it. The day one patches don't affect me but I can see how it will suck for some people.
Not everyone has Internet access
what games require an update before playing them?
MS should send stacks of "Day 1 Update" DVDs to stores so they can hand them to customers when they buy XB1.
EDIT:
didn't realize I was beaten:

Overnight? They have weeks.Does anyone in here really think that it would be economically feasible for a company to ship a million discs overnight to thousands of locations?
Take a look at the prices of overnighting a letter. $25 - $50 at a minimum. MS and Sony are shipping their products to the distribution centers so their retail partners take care of the logistics.
Sometimes I doubt whether people understand supply chains.
You /= everyone.I buy a game console for many reasons. Almost all include the internet...
I posted this in the dashboard thread but I think it's still relevant.

Go to bed Adam Orth.I f you can't get access to internet for one day, perhaps you shouldn't be spending $500+ on games
I love all the defending of MS's fuckups by saying the PS4 has a day 1 as well.
Here is the point; The PS4 (as far as we know) functions as a game console without that day 1 patch. Even more importantly it can download the update in the background while your using it to actually play a game.
I can play a game while I install the update.
We've known this for a while, you can't do anything past the "setup" process until you download the update.

They don't need a finalized update. They just need something that would enable basic functionality.OS isn't finalized. They have said they are working on it until launch. The UI video from today was from the 11/1 beta build.
You /= everyone.
Anyone without an internet connection is boned, actually.who cares? the update is there day one, so no one has to use it in its "unusable" state
And the sad thing is that most people buying a console day 1 are buying it to play games, not to watch a blueray movie.
Have to download a patch day one? But Daddy, I want it NOW!!!!!
Large percentage /= everyone.I'd imagine a large percentage of future Xbox One owners fall into that same category. There is a reason why Xbox Live is so huge. They all have this magical internet thing!
That is disturbing.
