Camera controls in Long War are by holding down the middle mouse button. I'm not that good with it, though. Also the F keys do stuff, it's in the Long War readme.Someone run me through the basics of kB/m controls plz
As above camera control is most appreciated
Should I stick with B14 and wait for another update? Or does it seem pretty solid?
Regarding cameras-the big ones are:
F2 for view from the top down
F3 for the default pan angle
F9 for the ground level pan. This is also the "meld scanner" camera angle that everyone uses to find meld can outlines in the fog at the start of a map.
I also find it useful to go into the options, Interface options and set the default camera panning far to the right. This makes it so when you swap soldiers you stay zoomed out.
Maybe a stupid question, but long war is (still) fine using a controller (360)? Or are there features strictly reserved for m+kb?
Perfectly, 100% playable via controller. The very last item I think wasn't working (interceptor renaming?) was addressed at some point in b14.
If you have a b14 campaign and it is still interesting, finish it for sure.
I think you should wait for b15a, the first fix update for b15 to come out before updating. The item repair stuff is really sort of fubar at the moment-I would disable item breakage in the INI if you are on b15 until the fixes come out.

Also learn to love ALT+O (everyone who can overwatches) as well as using shift and tab to rapidly cycle through troops. The latter part is actually a big help in improving your tactical game, one of the things that makes people play bad is that they don't cycle through their squad to see what they have to work with before moving people around in a turn.
Hmmm. Still on B14, but does anyone find that playing with Red Fog makes makes mecs limited in their use? They get hit and their aim starts to drop off rapidly as does their ability to launch grenades a good distance...and they are damn easy to hit.
Seriously starting to regret all the resources I dumped into mecs lately.
Not all Long War missions are winnable. If you cannot find any way to complete it, it is fine to take the shots you can and get the heck out of there and give the aliens that one. Just remember to have ALL your troops in the blue rectangle first.I got a Swarming on the India Train mission... I can't do it. I've been restarting this mother f'er all last afternoon and this morning. There's too many Thin Man, too many Seekers and everything activates at the same time. There's not enough cover facing the right way and and... I can't. Should I just abort mission? I've tried everything. I've tried save scumming for enemy positions, everything still activates simultaneously. I've tried Battle Scanning, everything activates at the same time. I'm going to try Battle Scanning and sniper pulling one more time but I'm hesitant it'll work.
I can abort missions right? That's a think I'm reasonably allowed to do, yes?
Ooh, what did you get there? Other than way too many aliens to handle?I went daft and thought that a landed medium UFO around March 10ish meant a Large Scout so sent five rookies with the one Specialist out of fatigue from the starter mission.

Nevermind! I went full overwatch/concelment trap. They can't shoot you if they can't see you. And they can't shoot you if they put themselves in flanks to see you. Hid my entire crew in a C shape Box/Train fixture. And inside the trains. I did have to continuously run my scout back and forth between turns to pull overwatch and lure them in though. That was scary. A freaking Thin Man Panicked my Assault who was going around for the flanks too. That made the mission take 15 minutes longer than it should have. Not all Long War missions are winnable. But it's okay, Long War is also made to be able to take a hit like that. You can recover. In fact, winning everything is a little ahead of the curve. You will lose out on the resources you could get, and the alien strategy AI gets a small bonus for winning one against you, but losing troops hurts a lot more.
And if this does cause you to lose India, you can take it back later.
Tsk tsk. I did the same.I went daft and thought that a landed medium UFO around March 10ish meant a Large Scout so sent five rookies with the one Specialist out of fatigue from the starter mission.

He probably saw his first Muton and got the F out of there.Ooh, what did you get there? Other than way too many aliens to handle?
This is thread worthy. Especially with Long War being content complete.I bought EW for full since it's worth it, but everything XCOM is in a nice bundle for $12.50 instead of over $60 for 24h now:

- Activated Deadeye perk, which grants +10 aim and +10 crit against airborne targets. Will be available to Infantry, Scout, Shogun and Pathfinder.
Make it an item and I'm in. Or against Damn Good Ground.I know LW is kind of like an endless cycle of "Can't wait for B(x+1)(a+1)" but yesssssssss fuck you tiny flying half-muton runts
The mid to endgame economy is so much rougher in b15 than b14. Foundry nonsense and essential gene mods just chew through what little meld you can get. There has to be a better medium between b14 "always have 200+ spare meld" and b15 "flat broke always and forever", right?
Don't even get me started about weapon fragments. Unlike Alloys and Elerium, you can't workshop your way to discounts on those, and the foundry will clean your clock and leave you needing hundreds more.
Speaking of which, I need to gift myself more Meld right now. Couple of questions if someone would please. The doubling of the Meld really helps , BTW. You still don't get as much as you used to from alien kills, but you still get a trickle (instead of the none, like you used to) and it works out to about 80-100 meld (basically , one project's worth or a MEC trooper's worth) in the campaign's first five months or so, from my napkin math.
Because they clearly needed that buff. Well, maybe they did. Can Outsiders climb stuff?lol outsiders now got them jumpy legs
