XSEED E3 line up [Brandish, Senran, Story of Seasons, Akiba's, Corpse Party]

Brandish kicks ass, pure and simple. For those who played and didn't enjoy the SNES version, give it another try here -- the PSP version literally fixes every single thing that people disliked about the original while adding a bunch of extra stuff too (like more complex boss battles, and 10 additional dungeon floors that you play through as Dela), and may very well be one of the best dungeon-crawlers I've ever played.

I'm also the translator on it, and can assure you I've gone to great pains to keep the dark, eerie atmosphere of the game wholly intact. No inserted humor, no memes, none of those things you guys have hated me for in the past (heheh) -- if there's anything weird or silly in the translation, it's because it was weird or silly in the original Japanese and has been translated accurately.

I even made some of the boss names a little less Engrishy to keep them from breaking immersion -- Crab Devil, for example, is now "Karkinos." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karkinos)

I'm really looking forward to this one being released, as I think it may be my best translation work to date (especially given the tight character limits!). I'm pretty proud of it. ;)

Good to hear. And good to know who to blame for every error.

I really appreciate your effort to keep the feel of the game intact.

Cool, buying this ver of Brandish for sure. Maybe someday we'll get Dinosaur Resurrection, Xanadu Next even though I beat it already, Sorcerian Forever, Zwei 2008 and Zwei 2, Ys vs Trails, and Vantage Master Portable. Of course, I NEED to play SC before any of those.

I always wanted to play Brandish on SNES (Nintendo Power made it look so cool!) but never could find a copy.

Will pick up day 1 for Vita play!

Bon Appetit will release both chapters at the same time or stagerred releases like the JP version?
I'd like to know this as well, along with the pricing since each pack was around 2,315 yen/$22.60.

...oh right, forgot about how big the download size was. 3 to 4GB (anyone know the exact size?) for both packs. Think I might have to clear some space.

Interested in all of these, it's just too bad I'm European.
I suspect XSEED will bring Brandish and Corpse Party digitally themselves (Europe), but I guess it's the waiting game with MAQL Europe and whoever that's in charge for Akiba (NISA hopefully?) for the rest.
Had no idea what kind of game Brandish was, but it looks like a game I'd enjoy.

Kinda disappointed Brandish isn't getting a PC release, but this is still great news :).

Actually, yes, that's probably the most welcome difference between the PC and PSP versions: PC version has a fast-forward feature. And it is FAST. ;)

Hmm, might ignore my unplayed PSP version then...

Are you one of the translators on SoS, Tom? I can't wait for it to be localized, it's such a fun game.

I'll be buying all of these except the SK games because I'm not into that, but very excited for everything else!

I've done some minimal editing so far, but no, I'm not really involved in that project -- of the announced titles, I'm mostly involved with Akiba's Trip, Corpse Party and Brandish.

Mmmh, I don't like those face icons in Corpse Party. I think the character portraits are cooler

It's got character portraits too, don't worry.

Remember, the PSP game also had both face icons and character portraits, and it's exactly the same here.

So many great games making there way over here thanks to Xseed. After everything I have heard about it I can't wait to play Brandish on my VITA!

Is anyone besides XSEED even supporting the PSP in the West anymore? Actually, I suppose Vic Ireland has recently with the Class of Heroes games.

Excited to see I will be using my PSP again to play Brandish.

I'm getting kinda curious about Akiba's Trip.

Where does it fall on the moe/fanservice/JRPG/whatnot scale?

That's a very hard question to answer, as it has tons of moe and fanservice... but exists as a satire of those things. In other words, you can play it to enjoy them if you so desire... but you can also play it to make fun of them, and that's equally (if not more) valid.

As for its status as a JRPG, that too is kind of... debatable. It's a sandbox-esque beat-em-up with JRPG and visual novel elements, but at its core it's still a beat-em-up.

Anyone know if the PC version of Corpse Party has the same stupid difficulty spike that the PSP version has early on (when you need to
escape from a ghost in a room, can die instantly and you're 15 minutes away from the last save point
?)

It gave me that classic and awesome overhead view action adventure vibe that Ys: OiF gave me when I played it def. grabbing it day 1. Kudos for the Vita support BTW =D
Now please hurry and get more Ys games on Steam so you can have all my monies

Er, 15 minutes away? There's a save candle right there in the room with you. You can literally save almost immediately before it, in both the PC and PSP versions.

It's also not instant death in either version. You need to get touched at least 3 times before it kills you (I think it's 4, in fact). It's one of the rare occasions where your HP actually factors into play.

And the PC version has text-skip features, so it's even quicker to resume if you happen to get killed there.

Are you sure? I remember at least a few minutes of having to backtrack. Maybe it's just a lot of text that needed to be skipped?

You do have to skip through the text leading up to it, but if you hold the O button in the PSP version, it goes by in like, 20-30 seconds tops.

Hey Tom, since Xseed isn't totally averse to localising and publishing oldass Falcom games, seem to have a good working relationship/partnership with them and have been releasing some of their PC games on Steam...Xanadu Next pretty please?

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Brandish is as good as bought. I'm not really interested in Corpse Party though... I'm kinda sad this is what you guys meant by more PC support.

It's... not, really. I mean, it's part of it, but this is just one announcement. We also have Trails 1 and 2 on their way, and a whole mess of possible pick-ups for the future...

Yay Trails is still alive, what ever happened to that winter release date? (I know the script is massive)

For you.
See my above response. ;)

We still have yet to do the whole Steam Card thing, as we really haven't had time for it with all the other stuff going on -- but this might be a good time to start looking into it...

-Tom
Do steam cards. Its a gold mine for anime style games.

Well I meant as the first non-Falcom announcement. If there's more coming in 2015 and beyond I'm definitely interested in seeing what it is.

Yes! Corps... Meh, PC version. Good for folks who won PC but not me. I'm waiting for Blood Drive.

Brandish localization is nice, gives me a reason to dust off my old pal PSP Go.

Interested in Brandish and Harvest Moon, may double dip on Corpse Party. As goofy as Corpse Party looks on the surface it's one of the very scant few horror games that meshed with me, eerie stuff. Nope to the extreme on the rest.

Licensing stuff really messes with me on some things, I'm not good with names. It'll be years before I stop calling it Harvest Moon, just like I still fucking say Dragon Warrior sometimes.
