Yooka-Laylee launches April 11th, considering Switch version instead of Wii U

Not so sure about this, believe it or not but there are people out there with no other device other than a Wii U. I'm glad they're moving it to Switch but if you want a refund because you can't access other platforms you aren't stubborn.

Yes. In 2016 they do. But if you're savvy enough as to Kickstart a spiritual successor to a niche darling like Symphony of the Night I think you would've updated to some kind of newer platform by 2018 when Bloodstained is coming out. More than a year after the Switch.

Chances are that if you still own only a WiiU in late 2016, who kickstarts niche projects like Bloodstained, you're a diehard Nintendo fan and will most likely upgrade to a Switch anyway. Especially by 2018.

This was one the games I was looking foward to play on my Wii U.

This sucks, but I can understand their reasons. If Nintendo is not doing anything for Wii U whay should any other company care ?

The next to be cancelled it bloodstained ritual of the night, sincie is a game for 2018 is a given.

lol I ordered that on vita and this on the wii u. Guess I'm a sucker for buying games on dead platforms. If bloodstained is going to take that long to make it's understandable, but with this even back then playtonic could have foreseen the way the wind way was so why offer it as an option? Guess I should have seen it coming myself and not bothered backing it.

My pc is ok and I've since bought a ps4 so I'll definitely be able to transfer my pledges over, but it's still a bit annoying.

This is good. I'd rather not have them waste their time on a lackluster port of the game when they could focus their efforts on a better Switch version (even saying this as someone who did own a WiiU).

Whilst it's really unfortunate that Wii U users who backed the game are not getting what they paid for.

I read this amazing comment on the comments for the post on their site:

Why is UCraft running (the developer said that) with Unity 5.5 on WiiU then? With up to 60 fps as the developer right now said?

Can you explain that? And that game is still coming for WiiU and they even say "It has better physics and ai then Zelda BOTW". And it`s not cancelled.

And what´S even more important: The developres said "That game will be similar as coming Definition-Edition of "Kerbal Space Program" (Which is running pretty poor on PS4/Xbox One xD)- and they said it`s more similar than "Star Citizen" in terms of hardware needed to run it.

And we all know: StarCitizen is NOT coming to PS4/Xbox One. Since an AMD Jaguar is too slow too handle it.

And WiiUs PowerPC eats the AMD Jaguar for breakfast. That´S why KSP is the definitive edition on WiiU they say.

What i get from this is simply: We don`t want to develop for POWERPC. We want to push a button to translate the bloatware (today`s x86-games are called "Bloatware" in developer`s words) x86 into handy ARM-code. That can be feeded the WiiUs ARM-processor.

And it might very well be, the WiiUs ARM-processor cannot handle it, and they simply wanted more. And that´s why it skips WiiU.

In this case it has to do because of LAZYNESS.

Since you can MEASURE if a code is running on lazy ARM-architecture or on highend PowerPC-architecture. And you can see it.

You can tell by the game`s size alone if it`s running on ARM (i would guess it would be 5 Gbytes big in this case) or if it will be PowerPC (WiiUs most PowerPC-games are TINY TINY TINY! 100-1000 Mbytes sir!).

See? Fast Racing Neo Is 800 Mbytes! Not 8 Gbytes xD

FRN isn`t "bloatware". It´s a nice programmed actually PowerPC-program. Not some bloatware, filled with unneeded stuff, 5 patches etc...xD

See? Just like ZombiU (With Multiplayer & Zombi-Mode) is just tiny 5 Gbytes on WiiU.
But on X86-platforms it´s hefty 21 Gbytes big.

Dat IBM Ultra Compression Engine and the Wii U's ARM processor alternative.

I didn't realize that Wii U had console warriors. Good to know they are timeless.

For real tho that Star Citizen comment got me chuckling.

I haven't seen stuff like this since the 360/PS3 era.

Sorry to break it to you, but the PS4 is a rip-off console which is allready outdated...just like the Wii was 10 years ago. PS4 was just made to get as many customres to buy PS4 Pro.

So you are disagreeing with yourself?

See? When was the last 60fps-game the PS4 had? Oh that´S right...It was some non-demanding toaster game.

PS4 fails to even get stable 30 fps in some 2D-games...That tells you everything.

The PS4 is just the Wii of this gen. Most-hyped. Sold the most, because you can get one for 190 dollars here xD

See? It has been like this allways in the past: The ONE which is the CHEAPEST (Playstation 2 was cheaper than Gamecube and PS1 was CHEAPER than Nintendo 64) sold the most.

PS4 is cheaper, but also way slower, yet sells the most. The cheapest console allways gets the most games/support after it.

PS4 has not a SINGLE game which can do,what Discovery right now does: Where you can just go around and throw 100 balls to the ground in 1 second and look what happens with them. And in 20 days it will be upgraded again. You`ll be able to make your own Mario Kart/Kart-Racing-games with it. And they are also talking about upgrading it with "Rollercoaster"-creation-engine.

Since that´s what it`s about now: The Wiiu is a supercomputer. You can do MORE things than on a general PC.

a PC cannot run Fast Racing Neo. As the PC does not come with eDRAM which is fast enough to handle it. No PC has a 4-Stage RISC-cpu, which could handle it. And no PC has FIXED shaders which are fast enough to handle such graphics at that blazing-fast speed.

See? That´S why it cannot be emulated on a simple PC.

I totally get why it makes sense to switch to the switch, but Wii U users got shafted in the worst way. It wouldn't be so bad if the switch was backwards compatible or if there was a way to get a discount on buying the Wii U library of games on the switch, but supporting Nintendo cost fans this time around.

So many games either abandoned the system or just decided to shift development to wii U. Nintendo was big on digital purchasing for Wii U, but now it seems like if you bought anything for that hardware, it's locked to it.

I've got a Wii U, but now with switch - clearly what the Wii U was meant to be, let's be honest - it feels like Nintendo shrugged their shoulders with no apology.

I get it, but it still sucks.

When did these guys make this decision? Wii U was supposed to be made in house, but only now do they say it's unable to handle the game.

This kind of thing is a huge red flag. The point of Kickstarter isn't to abandon the people who backed you when you see more money somewhere else.

Not a port, one of the lead platforms.

So what should they have done? Released a choppy, ugly version of the game?

They've been working on this a long time, but apparently in the span of four months they will shift development completely from Wii U to a platform no one has seen and ship the game. Sounds like we might be getting a choppy, ugly version of the game anyway.

Or it's possible this move was made long ago but they didn't see the need to let backers know about it.

I guess I'll be switching my Wii U version for a PS4 copy. Damn, I was hoping this would be my Wii U's swan song, guess it won't ever have one then.

I'm really excited to have the Toybox demo for consoles, I downloaded the Steam version, but my laptop is from the stone age so it can't run it. Now all I need to do is wait until I can change my order in January.

Anyone who insists that it was possible to get this running at a playable framerate on Wii U should probably compare it to any of the other Unity games on the platform.

Granted, Playtonic probably should have done the same before they announced a Wii U version, let alone prioritized it above the PS4 and XB1 versions, but I don't believe they're lying.

I don't think that's the case either. I know they were still working hard on getting it to work on Wii U as of August, at least.

I had an absolute blast read in the second quote! While reading it I kept wondering if this wasn't actually some super computer owning PC master race fanatic, but no, someone actually thought this about the WiiU lol!

I mean this is great news and I would rather a Switch version every day of the week but it's a bit of a lame excuse to blame it on technical issues. The issue is that they don't want to release a new game on a dead console.

I'll probably end up buying this on all 3 consoles. Hopefully we get a limited edition.

I guess the sountrack and manual/art book only come with the PC release? No deluxe version for PS4 and Xbox One?

Do the people who pledged for a Wiiu version get their money back?

Cause it's kind of shitty forcing them to buy a new console to play their game now, I know the Wiiu is dead but still

With Breath of the Wild coming for Switch and Wii U, Yooka-Laylee being moved to the Switch, and Spla2n will probably have splatfests that I don't want to miss and is probably a launch title... I think I'm going to "make the switch" sooner then I thought. Sorry wallet.

At least I'll have Shovel Knight DLC, DKC3 on VC, and Smash Bros. to keep my Wii U plugged in for now. Oh yeah, I still have to play Wooly World and my Mario Galaxy 2 VC copy...

I backed that tier, I was going to get the Wii U download code. It would be good to be able to get those extras on a console physical.

It's a tough road to walk. I'm kinda in the same area with my own game. Trying to get it looking and playing great on the Wii U is a challenge and there will have to be some compromises for that to happen. Still, I won't be canceling that version because I said it was coming and it will. I just hope people can also understand some of the development challenges that go into bringing the game to that system. Unity and the Wii U just don't mix very well. At the end of the day, I think Wii U owners would rather have something than nothing and I think that's the key here. Offering another version is not a consolation for that.

Does anyone know if there's a way to change our Backer status from one console to another? I want to switch from PS4 to Steam digitally (it already gave me toybox codes for Steam) and then grab the PS4 version off the PSN store.

They're going to allow people to change their platform later on.

Straight from the Kickstarter update:

"Information on how backers can change their formats will arrive in January, once we’ve finalised the smoothest possible solution."

Some die hard Nintendo fans in that comment section...

I'm not in the same boat as these guys but I get where they're coming from: They kicked in the dough necessary to buy the game a little over a year ago, and a few months from release they're told they can still get the game so long as they spend $300 (or more) for new hardware to play it on. Not everyone has an Xbone or PS4, not everyone has a PC capable of playing this and not everyone with a Wii U has the money (or necessarily even the interest) to buy the Switch at launch. I totally get why these guys are mad.

Definitely Switch for me, especially with Banjo's origin on 64. Just feels right. Though the box art looks great with the Xbox casing.

The casino trailer looked pretty bad to me, but I watched all the other trailers on their YouTube channel and they all looked pretty good, so I'm not sure what to think.

I feel like this game would be more at home if I purchased the Switch version but then would feel like I'm missing out because I expect the PlayStation 4 Pro version to look and run much better.

I expected this, it's a shitty situation to be in. But at the same time putting the time and effort to release the game in a console that not even Nintendo is putting much effort into and the install base isn't particularly high seems like a waste.

Seems a better option to focus your efforts on consoles that can run it better.

The Wii U version was the most backed version of the game....

Trailer says pre-order now, but I can't find it at either best buy's or amazon's website. Where can I pre-order the physical game for PS4?
